Photography

I would like to purchase a camera and some lenses. I know the are some guys here that have expirience with the different brands out there. I dont know anything about the equipment so please give me some advice where to start. 

Please feel free to post pictures and the information of the equipment used.

Hit up Zion, rg3, yosi, hotbox or AFL430! THey have the BEST PICS!!!! and seem to know what they doin! :biggthumpup:

I use a Nikon D50...thats the brand of my choice...I have to lenses..right now..a dx 18/50 and a dx vr 55/200 (this lense is super nice) 
 
it comes down to personal preference though. Canons are awsome cameras as well and they both offer higher end lenses..
 
I wanted to take lots of night shots and f rom all the research I did before I purchased my camera, I learned that Nikons where the preffered choice over canons..the canons had more noise than the nikons..do to the cmos sensor...

I just looked up cameras online with my father.  I was told to look at SLRs.  I thought SLR was a model for specific brands but turns out a lot of different brand cameras have SLR.  So i looked up canon and nikon SLRs and boy are they expensive!  The camera itself isn't so bad 600+ but its the lens that kills you.  They have lenses for 1700!  wtf?  photography is such an expensive hobby :shrug:

YES SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITs like VIP styling..gotta pay to play! But the Pictures you can take are next to none...no comparison to a regular digital camera...

i am begennir too and just got myself a 20d. i have taken a shots but still i seem to suck at it.. i guess practice makes one perfect. i just get confused on the settings.. i.e. iso/apeture etc

Depends on how much money you want to spend.  Most SLRs will run you anywhere from $500-$8000 just for a body/kit lens.  Also, depends on if you want a cropped body or you want a full frame.  Crop bodies are the cheaper of the two.  The Canon XT is the cheapest at only 8mp While the full frame 5D and Mark III are the most expensive.  I bought a Canon XTi, when I started, the price was right under $1000 with 2 kit lenses the 18-55mm and 75-300mm.  Later on, you can always upgrade your lenses or even sell this model and buy a newer body.  Most camera equipment, especially the lenses hold thier value pretty well.

I have the Rebel XT and this hobby is just as addicting as cars. This camera is perfect for learning and not that expensive at all. Next spring i'm upgrading to a 40D since Yosi makes my pics look like sh*t

blah, what the hell, i'll share my crappy pics.

I use a Canon "Kiss" and a 18-50 f2.8 and 50mm f1.8 mainly (90 dollar lens used for some of the shots below).  

I wish I could give you an impression of Canon equipment but my parents/relatives use Canon and I don't know how to use anything else when it comes to SLR...I tried a Nikon but I couldn't even get the lens off b/c they twist off the opposite way of a Canon lol.  Dunno why but I don't shoot cars that much so I'm thinking about selling my DSLR gear and get a Ricoh GR digital.
