I was just thinking a bigger oval shape to take up more room on the bottom?

It's a style. I personally think it's awesome. You could go a more subtle route and like you said, do just bigger ovals. Junction Produce has a new style exhaust, with smaller tips. That don't stick out all angled and big.

Has to work with the car... I can't imagine upturned exhaust on anything but a really wild Jaguar.

But it works fine on Grant's Y32.

Mode Parfume has flat oval exhaust that seems to be catching on, and Sessions has hideous carved chunky skinny duals. bah.

The original upturned tips was an exaggeration of the upturned DTM tips back in the early 90sActually, nearly everything in oldschool vipstyle was an exaggeration of DTM styling or Euro trends

But that was a while back. Now those style mufflers are hella cheap on Yahoo auctions because everyone wants the oval tips. Again its emulating the european styling

i remember the DTM tips.

angling up would not work with my body kit, and besides it would look ugly.
i wish i could make a tip that was flat on the bottom and rounded on the top to perfectly fit.

what do you guys think of the new IS tips?

but I'm not one make a fuss about it, if its not my style I dont do it on my car and thats it right?

I hate those IS tips. Looks tacky.

I dig the new TL's tips, now that is nice.

I can't find any pictures but there is a Porsche that has two pipes on each side, and one is kind of "overlapping" the other one. I think it looks pretty good.

i think the upturned tips look great on really really low cars, like ur muffler is 2 mm from scrapin. otherwise it sticks up too high and looks like you're ridin smokestacks

That must have been a pre-production IS-F.

The production cars indeed have the tips connected to the mufflers.
I have seen this in person and even photographed them:

The Cayenne tips are also very large, 8' in diameter so that 16' if you run both sides.
