Don't know if I will brave the theaters on opening weekend but its on my list.
The short comics by Vertigo/DC give alot of backstory and are pretty damn creepy.
Will Smith is a good actor, but theres still a warm place in my heart for Chuck Heston in Omega Man.

I shall be watching this tmw in the afternoon, if i have time, i will post my opinion on it. Looks good, but I'll have to see if it's hyped like the trailers are meant to make it, or if it's over hyped and a flopper like a few movies have been...

I wonder if its gonna be like Richard Matheson's book "I am Legend" . Sounds the same to me
book: Robert Neville is the last living man on Earth...but he is not alone. Every other man, woman, and child on Earth has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville's blood.By day, he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for dawn. How long can one man survive in a world of vampires?
Movie: Robert Neville is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague -- The Infected -- lurk in the shadows... watching Neville's every move... waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered... and quickly running out of time.

Entertainment Weekly | Owen Gleiberman
In spirit, I Am Legend is caught in some abstractly doom-laden sci-fi past. For what it is, though, the film is well-done, a case of suspenseful competence trumping questionable relevance.
Washington Post | Desson Thomson
Instead of maintaining its edgy sense of constant discomfort, the movie is compelled to make Neville as fuzzily adorable and messianic as possible.
Variety | Todd McCarthy
Remarkably eerie yet annoyingly larded with cheap horror-film shock effects, I Am Legend stands as an effective but also irksome adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic 1954 sci-fi novel.
The New York Times | A.O. Scott
There is something graceful and effortless about this performance (Mr. Smith's), which not only shows what it might feel like to be the last man on earth, but also demonstrates what it is to be a movie star.
USA Today | Claudia Puig
A little more than halfway in, Legend, based on the book by Richard Matheson (which also spawned 1971's Omega Man and 1964's TheLast Man on Earth), deteriorates into a schlocky zombie horror flick and loses its steam.
Wall Street Journal | Joe Morgenstern
The star, as solo practitioner, does a terrific job of holding our attention when we're not taking in surreal vistas of a deserted Manhattan that are fascinating in their own right. Still, zombies are zombies, and this nasty lot, mostly digital creations of variable quality, keep draining the distinction that the movie seeks and occasionally finds.
Im still going to go watch it at IMAX.

Just saw the movie, it was short but i liked it.
Favorite part was when he was trying to find sam in the building.
I also liked the beginning too, that Mustang sounds sick.
bit off-topic but in the previews, it looks like theres gonna be some good movies in 2008.
1. Batman "The Dark Knight"
2. Jumper ( thought it was lame at first but looks like a good action movie)
3. 10,000 BC

I liked it! I think the CGI was a little undeveloped and there were some character conflicts in regards to the the infected constituants thought process, but overall the concept and mental anguishIMO was on spot.

The ending is about the same as the book ending. Except they made the movie one all 'dramatic' with his 'it is the only way to save you' bs.
He gets executed in the book version.

Awesome link Skid. I have to admit I didn't read the book so had no clue where the movie came from. But the alternate ending would have been more suitable for the movie.
