AVIC-D3 install tips?

i'm going to be installing the Pioneer AVIC-D3 in the Q in a couple of days and i was wondering if anybody who has installed this (or a similar unit) has any tips or things to watch out for when installing. i don't want to f**k this up like i did with my curtains (which are still uninstalled do to my plastic rails being ruined) so i figured i'd ask those who have come before me.

i'd especially like to know how to bypass the parking brake thing so i can watch porn while i'm sitting in DC traffic.

i'm kidding about the porn.

i think...

aight, i'll have to hit him up.

i'm looking forward to getting that thing in. my stock one is on its way out and there is no way im gonna pay $1000+ for a new factory one just so i can keep the steering wheel controls. luckily i found an adapter for that too so this unit is perfect. i have a Zune so the iPod controls are useless, but being able to play mp3 DVD's is a plus. having all my Dilla shit on one disc is gonna be nice!

They ran spliced RCA's to the speaker leads instead of using the speaker outs on mine. How did you bypass the park brake though? They didn't connect it on mine and every time I start it gives a warning that it's not properly connected. They said this way you can watch movies in front while rolling but it doesn't work, as soon as the car stars moving it goes off in front.

aight, i got the unit in but wasn't able to hook up the gps due to not being able to work inside my garage and there being no sun out (and it was pretty cold). i went out and bought one of those line level converters from Best Buy and that worked like a dream. it sounds so nice in my car right now and i haven't even fine tuned it. i got it in on time for the traffic situation this morning where i just threw my car in park and watched Dj.Shadow's "In Tune and On Time" dvd while the EMS crew did they thang up the road.

unfortunately i scratched the sh*t outta my shift nob and the shift selector plate. soooo...if anybody knows where i can find replacements for these i'd appreciate it.

pics to come i guess.

well, they are more like gouges than scratches. i'd need to replace the whole part (shifter, plate, electronics) by the look of things.

What adapter did you use to keep the steering wheel controls? Do you have any pictures of the avic installed?

on pioneers
if you want to bypass the parking brake
you have to run an interrupted groun
IE
parking brake wire, put a switch inline
you have to flip the switch to watch tv

Theyre actually selling for decent prices on ebay. Got mine brand new for about $600 shipped from a respected business with warranty. I laughed when I saw Best Buy selling them for $1000+ :pat:

I just wish the Z series Pioneers were cheaper. $500+ dollars for an extra inch of screen and minor new features is bananas...

main reason for the price difference is the internal hardrive and it's voice responsive. if you guys can live without the navigation part they have the avh-p4000dvd which is pretty much the same as the d3 with a $500 retail price tag.
