What DO YOU CONSIDER low IS?

Just curious to see what y'all are considering low is?

Is it:
How low the bumper is from the ground?

Forum image

or is it:
How low the frame is from the ground?
Forum image

or both?

IMO, to me it's when your bumper (bodykit or not) is as close to the ground as physically possible! I/E the first example!

I'm going with both. Body for thos who have kits, and frame for those with stock trim. Strangely enough fo rme my frame can scrape more than my bumper does at times cause it actually sits lower then the bumper and sidesteps.

I don't like cars with monstrous kits that still have wheel gap...I voted for both, however you definitely need tuck to be LOW

IMO it's when your tackling even the smallest dips in the road and/or driveways. I feel a great deal of sucess when I can manuver these obsticles. There will always be someone out there lower than you.

to me, it all depends on the road.

if I know the road of my destination, then I'll sometimes set it super low and just cruise.

but most of the time I ride with about a 1 - 2 finger gap, I like to drive my car just as I would a stock car and I don't like to abuse my system.

W/ wheel fitment and all that in mind,
dosen't traditional VIP show cars w/ bodies riding on the ground?
I see what y'all mean w/ both though.........

That black Sentia & Y33 are a perfect example of low BOTH BODY & FRAME!

Jus to me having frame that low to the ground doesn't alays look good!
And I would rather scrap a body up rather than frame or other part! IMO!

If the oil pan is dragging an the bumpers are still 6" in the air... no good.

Yep gotta have both. A 5" lower kit doesnt do shit if the car has 2" of gap between wheel and fender. Then again a slammed out frame laying car doesnt mean the bumper LOOKS low. Afterall, Vipstyle is all about looks. If it has that hella slammed look though, my bet is its gonna have both low!

I look at wheel gap, wheel size, tire size and how high the side skirts are to determine how low the car is

Your chassis is stronger than the bumpers.

My car looks almost stock height because of no aero, but the frame is almost as low as Rich's. Though its probably the reason why i havent had a fix-it ticket yet.

Having said that, i voted "both". My ideal aero sits the same height as my chassis rails, so that on big hits, the chassis will prevent the bumpers getting crushed.

heres some examples. this guy is pretty much dragging frame on coilovers with stock bumpers (switched to 18s so he could go lower):Forum image

This guy is at a similar height but with aero that matches chassis height

I really think the look of no aero is more my cup of tea. For my car there is nothing that is attractive to the eye besides the stock parts. Thus the reason why I prefer my frame on the ground and no aero.

Honestly, people are going to vote for what they have but when they see a low kitted out car, they drool and want the same kit on their car. Im not starting anything here but riding low on a fiberglass kit takes balls too since fiberglass cracks easily and you need to pay to repaint it.

I see your point, but I don't agree about those kinds of costs to play the game. IMO it's one thing to properly push the car to the limit and another to recklessly do the same thing. The additional cost involved to properly do it IMO is the cost of the game. If doing it on the latter, then I would say it's plain dumb. I like to build beautiful things and try the best to maintain them, not turn around and destroy them.

right on augdogg,

unless of course it's a play thing that sits in the garage all day, otherwise it's the balance between functionality and slam-mentality (<new word i made up)

Nonsense!

This summer I'm putting drag blocks in. Should be able to throw sparks at show height.

I want my car to be so low people think it's dumped on air.

The first thing I notice is wheel/tire-to-fender gap.
Wheel offset & width have an effect on this- a car with the
wheels sunken-in usually doesn't appear as low as one
with a more flush wheel fitment.

Then, distance from the lowest point of the body to the ground.
Obviously you can visually make the car appear lower than it is
by using the right bumper & skirt combination.

I've seen slammed cars without body kits that look higher
than one that wasn't as low but had the correct wheel/tire/
body kit combination. If you're tucking tire, you're definitely
starting to look low, as most cars come stock with a fistful
of gap.

You can only go as low as the body, so body to the ground

It would be dump to slam your aero into the ground. for Non aero guys, its frame, but ebveryone else, you cant go by that measure.
If i was as low body wise as WIdebody, my aero would be broken in 800 pieces.

Its just two different comparrisons

BUT, i do prefer the look of aero on 90% of cars, F50 being one of hte few that dont need it

I think its a combination of both. The main think I like to get rid of is fender gap. Less is good none/tucking is even better looking. When it comes to cars I've always judged by gappage or lack-there-of gappage.

i believe i have don all of my mods tastefully and properly. i just DECIDE to drag frame evrywhere. i think my limit is just further thn a lot of people so i dont even feel like i am pushing the limit. i have never destroyed anything on all of my 7 lowered cars i have had in the past. its just hard not to make your undercarrage look like minced meat when it is an inch off the ground on coils diriving all day through boston! i have no regrets:shrug:

I'm not questioning anyones perception here, just livin' by my own principals. I'm sure your ride will look tight on the ground, most do IMO. what's updog? ;]

haha you SD guys already know what i consider low...
every day, somebody asks me if my car is on bags. nope! i prefer to roll as low as most of you guys park =]

then again, i have no aero and bad wheel fitment. but i do it all so i can be lower. i would do it with aero and good wheel fitment as well, i just cant afford it!

i recently lowered the car an inch more in the front than it is in these pictures, i just havent had a chance to take new ones.

the LS is mine, that's low frame. the IS has a low body due to the front lip. i prefer the low frame because everybody can tell the car is super slammed.

Yeah, unfortunately the Y32/33 has alot of shit hanging pretty low under the sideskirts... side looks skyhigh even though the frame/exhaust is only an inch or 2 off the ground

For some reasons toyotas always look so damn hot slammed with no aero tho...

HHHmmmmm what do I consider low..I personally think that this questions is best answered through a few different perspectives..

Perspective 1) No aero kit..then first I look at fender to wheel gap not tire to actual rim. Next I look at side skirts clearance to the road...and Finally one of the main things how much room you have between the frame and the road..there is a point where you can no longer go lower because you just wont be able to go anywhere if your frame is 1" off the ground....

Perspective 2) With aero ....this one is tuff because for example insurance aero kit hangs low in the front and with my ride hieght right now it would be busted into pieces thus forcing me to raise my car , get bigger wheels or switch to air...I see a lot of hondas driving down the road looking like they are laying frame from the front and when they pass they have like 3-4" gaps between there wheels so its like FALSE ADVERTISING... With aero if it is subtle kit then I look for gaps between fenders and wheels next I look at what size wheels they are running.

Perspective 3) What type of suspension they are using air pr coilovers and then I need to know what actual drive height because I could slam my car to the ground and take a pic and say look how low am and I could probably go lower than most guys with air if I did that, but then its not drivable...so with air its more about drive height then parked height.

Riding low scrapes the metal under the car and can lead to rust. In most cases, A badly rusted frame = salvage title.

Your right. I rather be low with no kit, then have to drive around with a broken kit (even if its for a couple of days) Thats not vip. Thats why I held off on buying a kit and plan to make my own out of polyurethane in the next few months.

What I consider low is your daily ride height. Sure people slam their cars parked, sure people slam their cars for shows, but it's all about the daily.

Volk, you sir, hands down, have the lowest car here on coilovers i think.

Widebody, the only other person i have seen as low as you (or maybe lower) is Van.

That's the way everybody should roll though as low as possible.

I'm a hypocrite though, cuz i still need to get my suspension lol!

^^^^ I agree its all about the ride hieght..! dont care to much for seeing folks on air/coilovers parked pictures or slammed just for pics. ...NO Offense but just like caoboy said any one can slam there cars with air/coilovers for shows and pics but what do you look like rolling????? --O------0-- = 4x4 _0_____0_ = sliggity slammed

Question would be better asked, What do you consider low @ ride hieght?

i think how close chassis is to the ground is important;.. u have people rolling with
wheels that are on the bigger side for their car and they're tucking tire..
whoopie do!
