Extended Sliding Door Hindge...............
Hope I am not jumping the gun by posting this up (maybe I should of waited to confirm what Shawnthemonster wants to talk to me about)..........anyways.......I have seen the "extended sliding door hindge" on yahoo auctions japan but because our sliding door is "opposite" don't think that they will work. Any suggestions out there? I know that it is not as simple as adding more metal and lengthing the hindge (as the door will not close properly). Any suggestions out there?

I don't even have overfenders at this point and the sliding door is rubbing up against my wheels. I have "custom microfiber" (double stick tape) where the wheels and panel make contact. I figure I might as well wipe down my wheels every time I have to open the sliding door. LOL My wheels were a "little" too aggressive and now I am paying for it. If I did have overfenders I would probally lose full function of my sliding door.........so finding one is kind of an important thing at this point for me.
Thanks for all your input...........if anyone knows anyone or any Company which makes one.....please let me know.

You are going to need the sliding door extention for your wheels too? I thought with the offsets that you had it would fit with no problem........

I just search the Japanese web. I think I have some ideas how to make the extension hinge. I will start sketching the hinge tomorrow and fabricating one at work.
sukoshiyoshi,
the rear wheels are 19X9.5 +44 offset. I did put the wheels ON w/o tires, it only have 1/8 inch space left (between the inner wheel and the frame). I don't want to damage the frame. So I bought the 1.5in spacers for the rear. I have the tires(255/40/19) mounted today. I will check if it will clear my sliding door or not tomorrow. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

Sounds good......I look forward to them pics. You went with 40 series rubber instead of 35 huh? That will help if you hit any "pot holes"(god forbid). There will probally be no wheel gap.....looking forward to them pics. Just hope that it isn't going to rub the fenders.

Shawn,
Is that your extended sliding door hinge in the photos? Where did you get it? Also how much did you end up spending on it?
mdenoga,
Could you inquire with One Ton VIP if he can custom make one.......also if he can how much would it cost.
Thank you very much!

Shawn,
You got any more photos/specs? With al the info maybe we can ask anyone if they are willing and capable of creating these for us. Is there anyone out there who is willing and capable of making this extended hinge a "reality" for us Previa guys? I know that there are atleast 3 of us who will be interested in picking up one. Hopefully we will have more photos/specs so that we may have these created.

to bad the vans didnt come with Dual sliding door like most of the new Vans..
all you would have to do is flip it and put the right side on the left and left on right side.. but of course would cost you double becuase of the 2 doors..
doesnt look that hard to make.. if your a machinist and you have the acutal one thats already made.
But taking it to a machine shop always cost big bucks.. unless your making more than one.
IF you have the actual part.. i could ask my friend that work at pearl harbor to copy and flip it.. he make all kinds of stuffs for his harley..
Or i could ask the machinest at my work..

Shawn,
Which company makes that "top" extended hinge by chance? Also you wouldn't happen to know how much it would cost would you?
Marshall,
You wouldn't happen to know how much it would cost for your friend to "flip it" and "make it" would you?
Depending on both prices I am thinking if those who are interested in buying the extended hinge all pitch in to buy one (1) Japan version to use that as a "mock" to have Marshalls' friend create USDM one.
How does that sound? I know that there are atleast 3 of us who need this done...........this may be the easiest and cost effective way in making our wheels actually "fit". LOL Now its all about "overfenders"...........LOL

so its just the top hinge that needs to be change and the bottom one doesnt even require to be changed at all..nice!

Actually its just the "middle hinge" that needs "replacing/custom work" to work properly. There is no adjustments to both the "top and bottom" hinges. Thank goodness.....because that would be custom hinges X 3......as if 1 custom ain't enough.

That DIY is really good. If you look at the pictures you can tell what they are attempting to accomplish. So basically you "Cut" and "Add" in between how much more "Metal" then "Weld". Don't got any of these skills to do this but this makes a lot of sense. I am sure if you were to show the pictures in the link to a Metal Fabricator with the proper tools and metal it should not be that big of a job.
Thanks for the link Shawn..........but now I have "bigger" problems........thanks for the call.

I definately am not planning to cut the inside panel. That is the only thing that keeps my wheels from getting scratched everytime I open.
