About to buy new wheels!!!!! Opinions Appreciated

Im about to purchase wheels for my 94 GS. the ones im lookin at are 22x9.  the car is lowered 4" on all four corners. here is a pic of the wheels im thinkin about.  let me know what you think.

Too damned big.  This is VIP, not DUB.  20's are the maximum I would place on your car, and I'd prefer 19's if it were mine.

right i understand.  the gs in the pic there appears to be lifted with most likely spring spacers and running a 255/30/22  which is 28" tall. thats a big difference over the factory tire diameter.

Yeah, but do you think you will actually be able to FIT those with a 4" drop?

And still have tires?

To go back down to factory diameter you'd have to run a 225/25R22 with 2" of sidewall, stretched. If that tire exists.
The smallest Toyo 22" is the 235/30R22 Proxes 4, which still only offer 2.8" of sidewall but a 27" O.D.

All in all 22" on a 1st gen GS is a dumb idea, to be perfectly honest.

completely understandable i just like to be different. mathmatically the wheels will fit with the drop that i have.  i am running espelier springs and tokico shocks. i have more than enough backspace clearence and turning radius the only place it may be questionable it on the top side but its not difficult to remove the fender liner. i just thought it would look good to have an aggressive drop on a larger wheel. i have not owned a car like this before.  i have had many honda's and eclipse's.  i just finished my 6spd supra about six months ago.  i sell wheels and tires for a living so i was going purely on what i know about wheel fitment on the choice here and what i thought might look good. i in no way did i intended to make people angry. again i am new to this style of cars and trying to learn what works and what doesnt.

Yeah, I know what you mean and where you're coming from. I don't doubt that it's feasible, but (this is totally subjective) I guess it boils down to I don't think it would look good, and it would be extremely uncomfortable with tires that small.

Also, you have to understand that here, we don't go for maximum size, we go for maximum fit, and usually drop too, which is why the idea seems especially ridiculous in this context.

I'm fairly certain that these are 18" wheels, 19" at most.

funny that you say you sell wheels and tires for a living. ive had to school a few before. 
but yeah, i understand where youre coming from, but i doubt it will be comfortable in any ways. goodluck though, and

your in the wrong forum bud...listen to the advise vets are giving you.  They will take you to the right path if your after the VIP style. those 22s are for bigger cars like 300c or even suvs. your car will look more donk if your getting wheels that big.  again 19s would look perfect.  20s is pushing it.

The info is definately appreciated, just trying to learn what i can about the style and incorporate my personal taste as well. its funny someone posted the JCP kit cause that is really the only one i like for my body style car. what about a 19" wheel similar to the volk gt-7. does it have to be chrome? silver? or can it be a painted wheel?

nothing bigger than 19's for a first gen GS.

As a first gen owner myself. I'm definitely not feeling it. First off  nobody here will not vouch for American Eagle wheels. And 22's Are WAY too big for the first gens. If you've dropped the car 4" and say that you've done the math, I suggest going back to the drawing board. Bigger does not always mean better. My suggestion 19" MAX. !9's say "Clean" and 22's says "Trying too hard" And here are some good examples

I agree with the general consensus. 19's would be the max. Anything more would just be the donk look.

Personally, I would go slammed on 18's.   The wheels of the GS 1st and second gen are close to each other so they can both pull off 18's.  Like everyone else said, 20's max for this car

you're on the completely wrong path. size has been covered, now on to style. i sold wheels for years and i have a feeling that you are dealing with the same types of distributers i did. pretty much anything you can buy from the wharehouses will not cut it in vip. lowenhart is probably the only exception i can think of that i used to get. to me vip has just as much to do with status as design. you should be looking at the jdm companies that members on the board run. that being said, the wheels i have are not high end and those lexanis don't look bad.

if i was going DUB style id lift it on 24's with lambo doors  gucci interior with tv's where they don't belong. after reading more i understand why NOT to run a 22" wheel. with that out of the way i simply said that i liked the style of the above mentioned Lexani wheel and to me it really isnt a DUB style wheel. clean 10 spoke    10" wide rear wheel +25    8.5" front +30   fat lip

i know what you're going through. don't take it personal but a lot more people come here trying to make something thats not vip vip, rather than really coming to learn. if that wheel had another brand name it might work, but vip is all about being a label *****. your just not gonna get any love in vip with a usdm wheel. there was a hot 300c on some asantis but it was built in japan so its a little different. heres a wheel thats similar to what you're looking at but has vip status:

you can't change the rules of the game. you can either play or use the weak "vip inspired" excuse (thats what i do). but you have a platform car so i would just shell out the duckets and get something up to par.

money is not the issue here.  i spent $6500 for the HRE wheels on my supra. its like i said in one of my posts im NEW to this and really just trying to learn. getting flamed isnt the way to teach someone. it makes a newcomer not want to talk to anyone about an idea for fear of being treated like youre an idiot. who makes the wheel you just posted. i honestly want a classy and elegant looking multi spoke wheel.

i think the responses you have been gettting have be relatively tame and honest
peopl have pointed you in the vip direction... it just may not be yours

Alot of members on here are just trying to give their feedback and in no way are they trying to flame you just trying to help you. The wheel posted are SSR Vienna ZWheel. A similar style and which I like are the Amistad K [URL]http://amistad.ne.jp/k/index.html[/URL]. Hit up one of our vendors if you want them.

i wasn't flaming you at all, just tryin to shed some light on the subject for you. what i was trying to get across is that most of the wheels you have access to through your business probably won't work, so you'll have to look elsewhere. what i would do is take my time and get aquainted with the manufacturers that tend to vip style. it doesn't take long and you'll be able to pick what you really want rather than the best choice somebody else chose for you. feel me?

Even thou there not made in japan, there sick!  Lexani makes some tight forged three piece wheels.  its a very clean and simple design, but id rather have more of a flat face but id rock it.  Try and get it either 19s or 20s and try and get the rigth fitment so the edge of the rim would be completely flush with the fender.  I dont know what the correct specs would be but other guys here should be able to help you with fitment on offsets and wheel sizes.

has anyone here heard of MRR Design wheels. the HR-4 looks  pretty nice.

Lexani isn't worth the money. Asanti, the parent(or is it sister?) company makes some seriously baller forged wheels, even though they play in the DUB arena. Lexani costs a grip because of the name, and their very blingy designs, but in reality they're not that impressive. I think they're all one-piece cast (not that that in itself is a bad thing, but it's nothing to love)

I would recommend looking to the Japanese brands for tried and true companies. Because Vip originated there, a lot of the companies are catering more to the style, both in terms of design and sizing availability, whereas North American manufacturers haven't really been influenced by it yet.

A lot of European companies make quality wheels as well though, typically of a more race inspired nature, but some like BBS have been extremely popular in other markets, such as Vip styling. Tuners on that continent seem to have a thing for poke and stretch, and extreme fitments too, so the companies also usually have a good selection when it comes to sizing.

i hear that mrr wheels are very good for their price.  the problem with the lexanis and other us brands is they arent friendly to custom offsets.  HRE on the other hand is. i also bought a set from them in custom offsets back in the late 90's but got rid of them for a set of custom works.

you may have to rock spacers to get the mrr's to fit flush though

MRR are actually sold in Japan by Cosmic as the Venerdi Hereborani line...but both are made outside of Japan unfortunately.  But they are an accepted budget wheel.

Why 22"??? They'll look super GAY (ricey and MTV looking) on a 1stgen GS! Go with some nice and wide JDM staggered 18-19"!

you need to search on here, what are some of the offsets,sizes (19inch MAX imo) and look at pictures to see what style fits your car mostly. Again your taste can be adjusted, but as I read your post it seems you are still in a dub style.
