I have a 00 Q45 and im looking to do some hacking on the headunit. any info on how to remove it as i dont want to destroy any pieces from the dash. any tips appreciated.
you have to pull the upper air vents out..and unbolt the screws, then you have to open your center arm rest and take out that cover where it locks it into place..then you unscrew those srews and turn you car on and put the gear shift into d1. this will allow you to remove the lower center dash with ashtray out..then unsrew the bolts on the lower part of you radio ac console and it will come out like cake..then just look on the sides and you will see what is holding the radio to that piece...
when i took mine out the other day i ended up stripping a few screw they were in so tight, so you may need to be careful with that. the wire harnesses may be tough to get out of various spots as well and if they are then be sure to cover the shifter assembly with something so the stereo brackets don't scratch the hell outta anything like i did on mine. i even ended up cutting the wires off of the harnesses from the back of the radio i had such a hard time getting them out. bottom line, just be careful. on cheaper cars that i've had i never scratched anything or had problems but as soon as i start to work on a more expensive car i screw things up. go figure...
the fsm has an excellent flowchart and diagrams on getting the h/u out, section BT, page 23. like the previous posters said, take care not to pwn your shift knob or scratch anything.

I already have an idea which i know will work for certain... Ill just splice into the cd changer channels (L+R) get some RCA adapters or 1/8'' female jack or both, wire them up, and put in a blank cd in the cd changer... It will confuse the HU to communicate with the CD changer and play whatever is in the cd changer (which will be blank media) while ill have my ipod hooked up to the channels. In theory it should work but i guess well see! BTW: thanks for the tips and info guys, much appreicated!
