searching for a good vendor for the wald v2 kit, i came across the amg v2 kit. apparently the wald front bumper was molded to look like the amg kit. foglights and all. what do you think? i know its not "super vip" and whatnot, but i think its really clean and keeps the original body lines of the eclass mercedes. and of course id be lower... with lower offsets :-X

Re: what do you think about this kit for the w124? *nonvip inside.. eek*
Looks boring... looks like the kinda cars the kids of well-off asian families drove back in the late 90s/early 90s around here
Are you ultimately looking to build a car with lots of POP...? Or just something that's sorta mildly modified and can be lost in the mix? (not that there's anything inherently wrong with that... but it's definitely not "VIP" that's all...)

A car most people would probably look at for 3 seconds, if even that much:
A car most people would look at for much longer, and be a tad confused:
(stance and wheel fitment, again, makes a world of difference)

Re: what do you think about this kit for the w124? *nonvip inside.. eek*
Okay....
As the owner of the above car, I need to set a few things straight:
-My car has an authentic AMG gen II front bumper, no wald trendy fiberglass POS stuff here.. :D
-I am in NO way trying to pull off VIP style. Not at all. I cannot stand that look that you guys here seem to like and to each their own I guess.... until someone starts bastardizing true euro style and mixing it with an overbearing japanese trend that IMO belongs on japanese cars only. The look I have acheived is what I like, not what the internet likes.
-Although it's pointless to mention, as most people outside this forum (ie the real world of mercedes modding) seem to agree, my car turns heads in a positive, "holy shit, check that out" kinda way, not a negative, mouth-covered-to-hide-a-mocking-laugh kind of way that gawdy VIP cars attract, but whatever...it's your perogative.
Sorry if I come off as defensive or whatever, I just hate when people post my pics without my permission and a bunch of strangers make comments like they are the makers of style.
Enjoy your VIP lifestyle :)...and remember, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. Do what YOU like.

i think youre taking our comments the wrong way. i know first hand about getting defensive. i use to drive a green wrx that was so low i dragged the oil pan. all the nasioc guys hated me. but hell, i put down almost 400awhp :knuppel2:
1) how is wald trendy? wald has been around longer than youd think and it keeps the clean lines of the w124. sure, you may not like it as much as the amg kit but its far from trendy. hell, wald isnt even vip to me. they keep a lot of the euro look alive in their lineup. its high quality stuff.
2) your opinion on vipstylecars is just that, your opinion. ive learned that its either a love or hate thing. but it depeneds on the person. im sure you like things i hate, and so fourth. once you do some reasearch, youll learn what vip culture is and what vip style is and maybe youll appreciate it more. its been around almost 20 yrs before your car was even MADE. just becuase its hitting stateside now doesnt mean its a trend.
your comment on "bastardizing" euro styling reminds me while exactly i chose the w124 to build. becuase SOO many people do the euro thing to it. sure, i coudlve bought a ls400 and put japanese parts on it but i wanted to be different. thats the only way you can be successful in this hobby, stick out. whats the fun in looking like every other benz?
3)your opinion is just that. we all take it as a grain of salt.
personally i love your car. as i stated in the other forum, it pushed me to want to paint mine black. i was going to do ls430 black cherry before. i posted the pix becuase i was having trouble locating a wald kit and wanted opinions on your bumper since i AM going for the exe style. your car is nice, but learn to take criticism. you couldve come here with a better attitude than you did. beleive it or not, not everyone is going to be in love with your car. being a vip forum, of course our style is different.

Despite the owner's protesting, I find that car exceedingly boring. Unless you know the parts that went on (which I don't) it just looks like a nice Mercedes.

I don't think I took any of the comments the wrong way, it's there in plain typed text. Obviously everything is subjective when it comes to aesthetics and modding cars, I prefer one way, you all prefer another....no biggie. You'll HOPEFULLY notice my closing statement this time and realize that it was a nice and positive sentiment. Calling my car boring and an old asian driver's car pisses me off as much as people calling your cars loud, obnoxious fibreglass caricatures of cars would piss YOU off..
Hope that clarifies things.....enjoy your cars.

You are confusing VIP style cars with the kind of cars that West Coast Customs builds on their weekly Pimp My Ride show. Those are the ones that elicit the sort of reaction you are referring to... I wish there was a name for it, too. I just call it the "one hand over the mouth, the other hand raising the roof or swinging back and forth in unison with the alternating raising and lowering of the legs" maneuver. No one here said your car looks bad... it's just that for those who want a little more "pop" in their benzo, that one would be considered boring. Not sure why that hurts... if a bunch of people on a muscle car forum said the car looks boring and un-muscle car-like would it'd be the same thing... but then I'm sure you wouldn't be as hurt because you know you're not trying to make it a muscle car.
Calling my car boring and an old asian driver's car pisses me off as much as people calling your cars loud, obnoxious fibreglass caricatures of cars would piss YOU off..
For former part of statement, refer to above reply. For latter part, it was I who made the "asian owner" reference, but it wasn't to old asian folks.. it was to young asian parachute kids. I have no idea what part of the country you're from, but in some of the more "asian-centric" areas (such as California and some of the East Coast, etc.), you will have lots of parachute kids-asian kids whose parents send them to the US to study along with stipends/allowances of sometimes anywhere from 5K to over 25K a month. Around my area I knew of at least a couple such parachute kids that had cars that looked basically exactly like that benz... this was back in like the mid- to late-90s. In fact, they were almost always C36s... and I have an awesome anecdote of one parachute kid I knew. He crashed his C36 in less than a year, so his parents "punished" him-via proxy in Taiwan-by buying him a new 3000GT VR4... he built that thing up like crazy, and then proceeded to total it also... so then his next chastisement came in the form of a new (at the time) Viper GTS Coupe... AWESOME logic! But yah... lotsa young asian kids around here back in the 90s had cars that looked like dead ringers for that car back then. that is TRUTH, and you are welcome to contest it, but unless you are from this area, I would suspect you can't though.
