spacer adapters, causing vibration?
I bought some universal bolt on wheel spacers.
I THINK the ID of the spacer is 70.1mm but I need to measure and calculate before going out and finding some hubcentric rings.
Question is, can i just use hubcentric rings that are designed for wheels and put them in inside the spacer to make it hubcentric?
I get a bad vibration above 50mph and i need to figure it out. I am also going to take my wheels to get re-balanced, i think the shady mexico tire shop didn't do it correctly.
If these two options don't work, i've heard that replacing the rear caster bushings should help get rid of vibration? 2nd Gen. GS300 btw.

give it a try (with the rings) but its common problem on the 2GS...custom rims or not. Do a search over at CL

are they cast spacers or billet? cast spacers can get warped and not lay completely flat causing the vibration. as far as the hub centric rings if you want to use it along w/ the spacer you'd have to get the extended type or it wont even touch the mounting area and be pointless.

Hub centric rings really do work. On my car though, the vibration did not fully disappear until I changed the rims. This was when I was on chrome 20's.

This is a pretty common problem running spacers that aren't hub centric, maybe try check you weights also you mite of lost one.

I'm actually not sure if they are billet or cast. I'm not following you. Do I need to get an inch long hubcentric ring to fit both the spacer mounting area and the rim? Or just one for the spacer.
Can I even get a ring that big?
Also, would i be able to purchase a ring for the wheel also? or would that not work.
Hubcentric rings are something that is new to me...lol.

Did you use it on the rims itself or with spacers?

Yeah i know, but i also know they like to toss out information that is not necessarily correct, and i'll just get a 'oh knowz your rims are too low offset and are going to rub' answer.

LoL!! yeah, :)
Im actually having the vibrations around 60mph....time to replace the bushings n stuff :(

part of your problem (or maybe all of your problem) is that your running a generic spacer.
your spacer / adapter has to be hubcentric to your hub, it has to be a PERFECT FIT, right smack in the center.
best bet is to order a custom set that is generic to your hub

Check your LBJ's, among a few others. I have the rack bushings, but doubt those will really help anything.
I don't remember if you have to change the rear caster arms, or if you can just change the bushings.
Aside from balancing and rings, i don't want to dive into changing the other thing that i would have to, like front UCA's and stuff that's going to cost MONEY....

Funny you say that, because 'hubcentric' spacers that come from like HnR, are just spacers with rings in them.
I'll invest in some better rims later, right now as long as the vibration gets down to one that i can handle, or rather, one that's really just tolerable (as the GS tends to be a vibration *****) then it'll be fine.
New spacers are going to be 120 for a pair, and i paid like 150 for 4...i've seen plenty of people running them just fine, that's why I'm wondering what else would be causing my vibrations.

doesnt really gotta be hubcentric. just drilled spacifically for your application, ex 5x114.3. your problem is probably cuz its universal. its not perfectly centered when you bolt it up. so its bolted down more towards one side and as its rotating very fast its causing your vibration problem.... many customers that come into with custom rims complaining about vibration problem is usually the wieghts fall off, second they have to run spacers cuz the rims dont fit properly and they had them installed incorrectly....
spend the extra money for some specifically drilled spacers.... imo....

i use the slip on 3/5/8/10mm spacers all the time, no vibration
make sure when you mount your wheel, slowly tighten all the lugs in a star pattern, like slowly as in make them tight over 5 or 6 stars. that way the lugs will pull the wheel centered.
hubcentric rings are for if you are lazy and dont want to take your time putting your wheels on

It's not the bolt spacing that's off, i don't think so atleast. I think it's the ID of the spacer, since it's so big, IE, nissan OR toyota, just toss in different thread pitched studs and you are good to go, but the hub bore is different.
i'll try what you said Grant, if that doesn't work, i'll get the rings, if that doesn't work, i'll get the wheels balanced again, if that doesnt work, fuck it. LOL.

y0 Caoboy, if you want your wheels rebalanced.. holla at me... drive down to Stockton, to my tire shizzzop, and i'll take care of you.. :)

oh, so you got bolt on spacers?
lol, i cant tell you how long ive had bolt ons on the stagea...like 8 or 9 months now
never vibrated
its all in how you installed them..

Well Grant, whats the best way to install them? I just stuck a bar in the rotor vents and pulled the bar til it hit my caliper, and started torquing them down. I was by myself, so I wasn't able to get someone to just hold the brakes.
I still did the start method, but just tightened til tight, in a 5 star pattern, then torqued to about 80ish ft lbs? is that not enough? then i tightned the wheels on same method, and torqued it to the specs on the lug box. which was like 70lbs i think.
and broken, how come we don't know your tire shop? lol, waht's the name of it? i'll definitely hit you up, i'll send my buddy to you too, he needs tires anyways, since he had a blow out.
If not, we'll definitely buy tires from you, gotta help a vsc brother out and pay his bills too lol.

when i put spacers on (bolt on), i tighten them slightly all around, then use an impact gun. then i put the wheels on normally.

yeah GS tends to vibrate with spacers in the front. I think i went thru three types of spacers in the front. All of them made my car vibrate. I coundt stand it. You cant have a luxury car vibrating like shit. But no problems on the rear. Just the fronts... weird
