What are your opions on step-lip rims?

So I'm jus curious as to what is everyones opions on step lips VS non-step lips?
IMO I LOVE step lips and think they add a more gangster appeal to the car! Specially w/ deep lips!!!! I'm surprised I don't see more og them though! Is it because they make the car more sporty or is it jus nobody likes the look that much? If you had the option would you run a 11-12 rim w/ a 5inch lip in a step lip or non step lip?
Want feedback from y'all!

i love them as well. personally i would go with them, but a good majority of wheel manufacturers pretty much dont make step lips anymore from what ive seen. same goes for large widths. the industry standard doesnt go wide, step lips anymore.

+1 if you find some that you like.
i couldnt really find anything that i wanted that was being offered stepped lips.

goodluck
Charley

btw, my new bazreias are 18*10 -26 et. i wanted stepped lips so badly. but i personally think that it depends on the wheel face design itself, generally anything 5spoke or sport'ier' will work.

I love them! But they look best on spoke and mesh wheels. Dish wheels need a fat reverse lip.

+1! dish style wheels look a lot better with big ass reverse lips! i always liked the stepped lip style but on mesh wheels.

i had a choice to pick step lip or reverse lip for my hardiritts but i went with the fat lip because the step lip covers a lot of the lip and it only looks like your'e rocking a 3'' lip compared to a 5'' lip

I love step lips but i don't currently own rims with a step lip. I'll stick with my gangsta lip for now.

Wow, I've never seen DH's with a step lip. Work only makes step lips for 20's right? Looks nice but I still prefer the reverse lips on dish wheels.

wow I was considering going with step lip on euroline DH for my y33, but after seeing those pics on the g35, I'm sure glad I didn't.

OK here's the deal:

Step lip is nice, but looks tacky when the lip is too deep, such as the one on the g35. When the lip is deeeeeeeeeeeeep, stick to reverse lip.

why ? because the balance of step and flat surface goes out of wack. You see all this lip and this puny little step.

maybe a double step on a super deep lip would be nice, I've never seen it.

18" face on double step 20" barrel, super deep. Now that would be some nice visual.

Welll It's no secret that Leon Harditts are my FAVORITE RIMS!!!!!

And I knew asking this question was gonna get mixed reviews!!!!

I agree w/ the mesh part but looking at the Ordens or Waffes in a step lip wide!!! DAMN!!! That does it for me!!!! When I get home tonight I'll post up an example of a semi-step lip w/ a gangsta ass deep rim!!!!! Here's one I was thinkin about for now!

uh....that Q is also a widebody, and that wheel is at least 12J -20 .

u think you can get that kind of lip on a stock y33 body? let alone on a waffe ?

i'm aware that you could only get a lip like that on a wide ass rim w/ low negative offsets but even 10mm of a difference in offsets can give you a much bigger and noticeable lip. for my rears i have a 4.75- 4.9'' lip and the next step for more lip action on the charts was a 5.1'' lip, but they only offered them on 18's..

I like both, but still prefer reverse over step in most cases. Step lips makes faces smaller, which I personally don't prefer, but to each his own.

PANCAKES!: My question for you is are you lookin into getting new wheels? Your setup now is priceless IMO. But I always say do what YOU want. If we all modded our cars like everyone else did we: 1) wouldn't be on this forum 2) would drive a 300C/Charger/Magnum with 22s or "JDM YO!" honduh or something.

Oh yeah for my opinion on the matter I think it all depends on the style of the wheel. Something with a fuller face (which is what I prefer most of the time) and a stepped lip seems to take too much away from size of the face which in turn gives the wheel a smaller look in diameter which is why I think most have a reverse face lip. A more sportier wheel seem to work better with a stepped lip.

PANCAKES!: My question for you is are you lookin into getting new wheels? Your setup now is priceless IMO. But I always say do what YOU want. If we all modded our cars like everyone else did we: 1) wouldn't be on this forum 2) would drive a 300C/Charger/Magnum with 22s or "JDM YO!" honduh or something.

i think having a step lip will make your car more aggressive looking. while the deep lip looks more elegant. Allot of the Garage Magic cars uses step lips and they look crazy. If it was me. Id get a step lip. they just look so agressive in the rears especially cambered.

For me if its going to stay conservative then its
1) stepped lip
2) reverse lip with rounded edges
3) reverse lip flat edges
4) no lip, concave dish face.

Like others have said, if the lip is over 4," go reverse.

Off topic but, I dont know why more fwd guys dont go with a stepped lip. 2 1/2" of reverse lip is not impressive but looks just right with a stepped lip and thats all most FWD guys can get out of a rear lip.

i personally am not a fan of the stepped lips, i like the "cleanness" of fat flat lips.

+1 on that. Reverse also reflects the dish, spokes, mesh better. Giving it somewhat an unbroken reflection. Step will not provide the same effect IMO. But that's just my preference. Stepped lips are nice too. I just love the huge barrel look of reverse lips. You know like when people are coming up from behind you in the other lane and all they see is DEEP shiny lip, until they almost get beside you and are finally able to see the dish/face of the wheel. It's kinda mesmerizing to me, MUST SEE DA FACE...LOL

Ya, the step-lipped version of a wheel always looks too small to me,
like making a car with 19s look like it has 18s. If that's what you're
going for, then it serves a purpose; i.e. putting 20s on a VIP GS
but still wanting a 19~ish inch VIP look

Reverse (flat) lip for me... more visual impact!

I'm a sucker for step lips...well, plus I'm partial because that's what I have

But I do agree they go better with mesh style rims

I just wish I could fit 5 inch lips on my acura rather than just 3.5" :(
