AME wheels, why so HEAVY?

I`m waiting for my AME Shallen AX`s to arrive an noticed the weight of them on the shipping invoice. The 9.5x19 with 235/35-19 tires weigh 57pounds each. Isnt that a hell of a lot?
Its almost twice the weight of my current 19" cast wheels.
I thought forged wheels were supposed to be lighter?

They are "decent" wheels at best which are mostly copies of other companies wheel designs. Their quality isn't even close to say Auto Couture or Leon Harderitt. I mean they're better than running Sportmax (well, just about anything is), but they're still not top quality...I'd like to see proof otherwise.

AME's are not forged.

Yes, they are not the same level (or cost) of some of the other brands, but they are some of the best wheels in their price range. If you're looking for a 2 piece welded, or in some cases one piece, and don't want to spend $4k and up, AME's are an excellent choice.

They do fit your car, but that was never the thing in question. Just imagine how much better it'd look with something classier. I know it's crossed your mind..you told me before.

maybe you do
i care about weight in certain instances.

AME is a knockoff company
their Shallens are Bazarias..

and many other wheels are complete and blatant copies of other companies

im all about supporting the top companies
Work, Weds, Leon Hardiritt (even though work copied the ordens), Rays

anyone else, in my eyes, is inferior.
but again, its just my opinoin

and reread most wheel descriptinos
if htey are forged

FOrged outer, Cast inners

I have allways been a fan of Vielsides....Seems like they are pretty light wheels at least my 19's are compared to my older sorry a$$ 20's...Pluse I think they are made my Riverside and are a true three piece wheel that can be unbolted for proper cleaning and repairs...I dont see gettin rid of these wheels anytime soon..I know lotz of you folks are big time ballers and love to change out shoes every few months but as for me..I think I have found my ultimate wheel choice..I know they are not for everybody but there is something about these lips that make me say WOO WOOO.

Veilside wheels were made by SSR before they went bankrupt.

how are AME's knock offs ? Auto Mobile Engineering by Enkie ?

this is the stupidest and lamest thing I've heard.

ALL OF AME'S WHEELS ARE ORIGINAL DESIGN, at least most of them, maybe the LX is a variation of the carlsson 2/6 but everything else is a original design.

for once can you guys add to VSC with useful facts ?

Rrreally?

Here's some useful information

This AME is a blatant copy of the Fisker wheel made for the Tramonto.
Henrik Fisker designed it specifically for the Tramonto, which is based on
the Mercedes SL (R230) chassis. I know this because we made the original
forged wheel for their production Tramontos.

are they identical ?

the ame LX is also a shared design with rays lexion, the SSR kreis is also a similar design to the mae crown jewel.

no big deal, still a multi piece JDM wheel.

For those of you who think AME = crap because it's made by Enkei, have you thought about stepping back and looking at Enkei as a whole? You guys do realize that Enkei makes wheels for many major OEM's right? And that their wheels are seen in F1 racing applications as well.

Anyways, please do check out this link and read more about AME and Enkei technology. http://og-made.com/archives/category/ame-technology/

Thanks!

I know I didn't say Enkei is crap, I just pointed out the origin of AME to put it into perspective.

Shallen = Bazreia? Grant, what are you on? lol

Shallen is a line-up, like Kranze, and none of the Shallens look like the Kranze Bazreia. You're probably thinking of the WX Windmuhle, but you could never mistake one for the other.

It's kind of a moot point here..... Some elitists will still believe what they want to believe. Regardless, I still think AME makes a very good product in its price range. Keep in mind, some are comparing a 3 piece forged bolted wheel to a 2 piece welded wheel....not the same. And really...who's copying who....every wheel is beginning to look like all the other wheels.

Oh....how about Auto Couture being made by Modular Society.....right here in the good ole' USA. =)

^^^^ EXACTLY. I agree just like the next guy that wheels make or break a vehicle. But some of the utter wheel snobs here make me laugh. Who cares who makes what and who copies whose design? AME makes some nice wheels, bottom line, and they target a certain part of the market and do it well. End of story. All this wheel brand dick-sizing is boring.

enkei is a good brand. but their heritage is racing wheels, they are JUST NOW in the game of vip/lux/whatever you want ot call it wheel designs. And they are copying WELL RESPECTED wheel companies as well.

that alone makes me not want to buy their shit.

I mean, put a set of RP01s in my face and ill buy them. But not some knockoff shit that other people have had already.

Grant just made the point I was about too. I love and hate Enkei. Yes, they make wheels specifically for F1...but the same technology DOES NOT go into their AME line..so that point is moot. Yes, they have made some wheels that I love too...one piece forged though. Again...has nothing to do with AME. Both of what I mentioned were ORIGINAL designs. So yes..Enkei CAN make some good products, but that doesn't mean they're ALL good. Honda has had some kick arse F1 cars...but they still make the civic. And it's slow.

Civic in the mountains..still ='s slow. Where did I mention Integras? Haha ;p

ANYWAY to stay on topic..I think we can all understand that regardless of anything..they are copying other wheels and they are not the greatest in quality...regardless of the parent company and their attributes.

Why do you say that they are not of the greatest quality? What's your reasoning? Have you had any personal experience with AME's or are you quoting?

What is your experience that would make me believe otherwise? My experience comes from friends who have used them and some drifted with them. The quality just wasn't there to me and owners moved on to other wheels. In fact a few times I thought right away they were a straight up generic brand not realizing they were AME's (Circlar Spec R for one). I mean they copied so many different styles and when they make their own design like the Prider, they're just lame. I am not just saying it to say it..I don't offer AME for these reasons though.

enkei is a good brand. but their heritage is racing wheels, they are JUST NOW in the game of vip/lux/whatever you want ot call it wheel designs. And they are copying WELL RESPECTED wheel companies as well.

that alone makes me not want to buy their shit.

I mean, put a set of RP01s in my face and ill buy them. But not some knockoff shit that other people have had already.

So what makes WORK or SSR so much better?
Looks VERY familiar to the MAE wheels don`t they? But since they are well respected wheel companies they can`t be knockoffs, everybody can see that this is a COMPLETELY different design than the MAE wheels.:pat:

ok, now do htis
find release dates for both companies on teh wheels.

betcha work was first

but ssr nad work copy damn near everything from each other as well

BUT what sets them apart, is the LARGE number of INDEPENDANTLY created wheels. Not just having a knockoff of many brands as 80% of your selling point.

My point is that almost every company copies one or more designs, no matter HOW well respected they are. Does it really matter who came first with the design above? everybody likes both Work, SSR and MAE and no matter who knocked off who, it will be a well respected high end company who did it.
What about Mesh wheels f.ex? Who was the originator of that design? Damn near ALL companies have mesh design wheels in their lineup so they are all selling knock off wheels in one way or the other.

but your not getting my point

everyone has a handful of wheels that are copies, and a large number of proprietary designs.

AME is the other way around. and i dont like it when someone else is basing 80% of their line off of other people's work

I get your point. I agree that it should be the other way around.
I just got the impression earlier in the thread that AME was asscrap because they had some knockoff wheels and none of the other (WORK, SSR +++) had any, when the truth is that all companies have some knockoff designs in their lineup.

nah, everyone has a few knockoffs of each other, thats typical marketing.

but when the majority of your lineup is knockoff, fuck them

Ok this thread has officially lost all sense of direction. Let's try to get back onto topic.

As far as the weight of your package, yeah, its the weight of the rubber. But, at the end of the day, why does it really matter anyways? It's not a sport wheel and it isn't made to be ultra light weight. Plus, you are running a full face wheel, thats always going to have a bit of weight over say a spoked wheel.
