Can you chrome anything?

Was wondering...instead of buying OEM factory JDM chrome moldings can't I just chrome my stock body colored moldings?   Same goes for the mirrors and pillars or whatever else.  I just saw someone chrome their stock grill so I figure why not.

you can vacuum the chrome on like that person did with their lexus grill. 
but for pillars why dont you just buy a pillar kit from ebay or YAJ? lol

ummm how does vacuuming chrome on work?   I never heard of it.  Is it expensive?  Where can I get it done?  Thanks.

it takes a lot of expensive equipment and i couldnt get anyone in hawaii to do it. im sure you wont have that problem in cali though.
look up vacuum plating they have videos on the net, its an interesting process.

i also heard of a chroming process where it is sprayed on like paint, same look as chrome, and can even be applied to flexible surfaces such as a Nerf foot ball. haha

I'm skeptical about the paint, but I've seen the vacuum chromed stuff and it's pretty good

the paint is so-so its not bad from far but up close it looks real cheap.

There are a few things I would like to get chromed...however I'm not too big a fan

Chrome plating is expensive. Your not really saving anything to have the moldings chromed out. You can pay around the same price for the moldings on YAJ plus you wont have to drive around with holes in your doors waiting for the moldings to come back. 
 
The mirrors on the other hand would be a good idea since they dont come chrome as an option. Ill let you know once my stock mirrors are for sale (that way you can send in the spares and continue to drive the car while the mirrors get chromed lol). Should be a few more months though
