draining the air tank (air runner)
anyone know what and how I'm suppose to drain the tank ? what do I do? just slowly release the valve on the tank ?

yeah just open it slowly and stick a rag under it cause all the moisture build up. it's good to drain it a few times a year so the tank doesn't rust out whether people on this board have air runner or any other type of air suspension.

shiet...i havent drained my tank since i purchased it a couple of months ago. lol. what kind of tool is needed to open the tank?

You should drain your tank at least once a month. Rust and water build up on the inside of a steel tank can ruin your valves, fittings, and lines! When you drain your tank, if you get any water you need to invest in some water traps and maybe even an air drier.

Water will make rust form in the fittings and valves. The rust is what will really ruin the fittings and valves. If having airbags you should always run water traps to prevent water from forming in the lines. If you want to be extra careful you can always add an air drier. If running canovers or cylinders it is a MUST to run water traps and an oiler.

If having airbags you should always run water traps to prevent water from forming in the lines. If you want to be extra careful you can always add an air drier. If running canovers or cylinders it is a MUST to run water traps and an oiler.
no tools needed just turn the drain knob by hand. water traps work but it's just another possible point for an air leak. so it's easier just to drain it more often if you notice a lot of moisture build up.

Drain once a month or more if you want. I do it once or twice a month. And its as simple as autofashiong20 has said. I don't remove the drain completely until the air is almost out and at the same time I leave a small towel under it.

Is this neccecary to do if you have a stainless steel tank?
The tank that comes with the kit I`ve bought from UAS doesn`t have any drain valves.
I was told by them that there wasn`t any need to run water traps or to drain the tank, the water that would build up would find its way out through the valves I was told.

But just because you have a stainless steel or aluminum tank, it doesnt mean everything else in the system is rust proof. A $25 water trap can save you a lot of headache in the future. But if it was a MUST to run a watertrap++ wouldn`t UAS have tried to sell it to me in their kit? It would be a good way for them to make more money. The valves that come with my UAS kit are water and oil resistant so they wouldn`t take any damage from water running through them.

water/oil resistant doesnt mean water/oil proof
water traps are optional, but definitely beneficial. that $25 filter will save you much more than $25 in the long run.

are the water traps necessary if I just drain my tank on a monthly basis ? I don't mind the montlhly maintenance.

I always use water traps.. on the inlet side comming from the compressor..
Its better to catch that moisture before it sits in the tank. Moisture makes things rot rust and many other bad things.. make that dirty brown water come out..
I work on Air brakes for trucks and all the systems have water traps and even a filter for moisture.. moisture is the cuase of failures
just think of your airsystem as your painting your car.. you wouldnt want moisture in the air use to paint.
you still have to release the water from the trap once in a while.. but i rather have it sittign in the trap..
those stainless steel tanks are very low grade stainless.. they rust.. mines is mouted under my car and its is showing signs of rust on the welds..

a water trap is a filter that 'traps' water and moisture. its needed for any air system. if water getsinto your tank, it can travel anywhere from there - to your valves, into your lines, and into your bags or cylinders or whatever. the water isnt going to hurt a bag system since its rubber, but it can do damage to a cylinder system like canover.

back when i was stationed at Ft.Bragg we had to drain the air tanks on the LMTV's every time we parked them for an extended period of time. i don't think that doing it that much is necessary on an air suspension set-up (i don't think it was even that important on them)...but water will certainly screw up a system. it's always better to be safe than sorry.

you can get an aluminum tank, but that only prevents the tank from rusting not the other parts of your system like your valves, lines, and fittings.

UAS does not include the water traps because people just forget to empty them. It's that simple. A water trap doesn't stop all the water vapor in your system either, probably only like 50%.
This is the reason why UAS uses the style of valves that they do. They are meant to handle abuse.

I was told that we can use an inflation valve. But instead of plugging air into it, you can push the pin on the inflation valve and release air and water.
What do you think about this setup?

watertraps when used on a large compressor at a shop, go where the air comes out to the air tool...so if you were really to run a water trap the correct way, it would have to be at your source going into the valves. So if you run a multi port tank, you'd need water traps to each outlet to be effective...am I just over thinking this?
