LOOK WHAT UPS DID TO MY WHEELS!!!

So today I finally decided to go to my old work and take the wheels home to test fit them and see how much work needs to be done to install them. After removing cardboard from all the wheels here's what I found:
-Two rears were in great shape...minor marks on the lip most likely happened when tires were mounted, so its no biggie.
-One front had a couple of pretty big dents...the kind that would happen if you had something heavy with sharp edjes hit against the wheel. This is not something that could have happened by curbing the wheels or hitting a pothole...it had to happen either during shipping or when wheels were removed and one fell agains a floor jack or something.
-The other front had two dents on either side of it...the kind of dent that would happen if someone took a piece of 2x4 and hit it as hard as they could against the lip. On one side the wheel is dented about 1/4" or maybe even a little bit more and on the other side probably about 1/8". I attached a pic of the biggest dent (sorry for crappy cell phone pic). This had to happen during shipping probably from someone just tossing those wheels into the truck.

The lesson I am taking away from this and I hope all of you take: UPS does not care about how they ship packages...if they get damaged...oh well. For wheels with stretched tires, just a piece f cardboard won't do anything to prevent lip damage...I would probably have used a thin piece of plywood or 3 pieces of cardboard. Also insurance doesn't cost an arm and a leg...so insure wheels for full value.

The guy who sent me the wheels insured them for $100 each...kinda stupid considering that if the wheels were lost, replacement cost per wheels would've been almost $1000 each. Hopefully $200 I may get once this is resolved will pay for at least getting the dents repaired.

The lesson I am taking away from this and I hope all of you take: UPS does not care about how they ship packages...if they get damaged...oh well.

Sorry to see that, but they do it all the time and most of the time the damage is worse and unrepairable...

I will take some tomorrow of all knicks and dents...might even look over the rears and have UPS repair even the smallest marks that they've made.

I knew they didn't care for packages...afterall I don't think that people who work there consider loading trucks as their dream job. I just think that it took a lot of effort for someone to toss 45lb wheel+tire to cause such damage.

i know a guy who had his brand new work wheels show up with marks from UPS...

Serious man? Thats rediculous! I have had it happen before too though, Fedex seems to be ALOT better about care!

yeah dude I think the best one is USPS...always do great job with handling boxes, inexpensive and their cheapest service usually takes 3 days at most! 

Mark, I saw your buddy with GS rolling around the AVE yesterday! Car looks sexy and I miss those wheels...I think once I get the wheels fixed and installed on the car we should all do a shoot.

only one insurance claim out of 30 sets of wheels, and it was in teh ORIGIONAL box from work....

i use to work at a mail place, and ups guy never cared about any of the packages

ups packages always came all bruised and dirty. fedex was a lot better.

i was scared to look. 1 word: insurance. i ship/recieve a lot of stuff and i've had every carrier bring a messed up box. only 1 damage claim though (ups of course).

i think UPS automatically insures up to $100 per package...if you want to buyer more cost extra.

Have them pay for all four no matter how minor the damage. Sucks man. Ups definitely doesn't give a crap. I loaded ups trucks for 2 days and quit because everyone there complained the whole time and. No one cared at all.

I worked at ups loading trucks ,.........when I came across rims or a bodykit, I would handle and take good care of them, drop them easy to the ground, because i know what it is like to love this car hobby. Everyone else their threw rims and kits  like it was nothing, even infront of bosses. the problem is ,is that everyone who loads a truck is timed if you cant handle the amount of products coming down the line ,they will fire you.So you have no choice but to just drop products like its nothing, inorder to keep up with the flow of boxes coming down at you.At the end of the day the worker is happy he gets his check, and the boss smiles because his workers are getting the job done on his shift on time. The job is modern day slavery. Bosses are yelling at you all day lets go,lets go, move it ,move it, faster, faster. The average person their loads trucks for a couple of months then moves on to another job. Its by far the hardest job i ever had im my life. Think about it.........everytime you look at the paper ups and fedex is looking for people.  If your 18 and older and can lift 40lbs your hired. They hired me on the spot. And hire people on the spot all the time. Sign some papers, lift a 40lbs box and get hired in one day. So its not the workers fault. its the corp. who dousnt care. The more they load and faster they do it , the more money they make.

I can only imagine how hard it is to work there. Definately not something I'd want to do.

So the lady called from UPS and frankly now I am scared...she asked me more about the damage and then told me that I need to package the wheels back including original packing material, and the driver will pick up the wheels tomorrow to be inspected on site. I then proceeded to tell her that I want her to add notes to packing slip indicating that these are to be handled with care because these wheels are no longer being made. I also told her that they are very important to me and I am planning on repairing them. Here's her reaction:
"oh....well I will then add a note in here saying that you want these back and are planning on repairing them"

Now I am worried that I will send them out to UPS and then they will give me my $100/wheel and I will never see my wheels again. I think I will call the lady back and have her sign an agreement where if UPS does anymore damage or looses a single wheel, they are to pay the full price for them....because for $100 I can't even buy a tire...let alone a single made-to order wheel. I just want my ass to be covered...otherwise I'd rather pay to fix them myself and not risk loosing those wheels altogether.

What do you mean by a signed agreement? I doubt UPS won't sign anything for you. The only "signed agreement" would be between the shipper and UPS at the time of shipment and the original insurance request. Like people said, the seller didn't bother to pay any additional insurance on your wheels. $100.00 is the standard which UPS insures all packages for free of charge.

Basically I wanted some type of a document stating that if UPS looses the wheels while they "investigate" the damage, then they will pay the full amount so I can replace those wheels. $100 won't even buy me a single tire these days.

I talked to UPS last night and told them that I don't trust the driver or UPS in general with taking care of the wheels. The representative is looking into a possibility of me dropping the wheels off at one of their main locations, leaving them there overnight and then picking them up in the morning. I think this will be a much better option to ensure I don't get any more damage...especially to the face of the wheel.
