painted inners on JP style rear
How are people doing it? I couldn't find anything on CL. Are you guys just painting the inner tail lights and pulling the bulbs or what?

Don't they just use tint as an alternative to purchasing the actual JP kit?

There's a kit? I have never seen a kit on their site.

Hmm you are right, it may not be a kit, but I thought I had seen it before.

Check this out, look at the pictures of the back, you can see it's not tint but inserts of some sort...
You could always just have a body shop weld them out.

I think this alternative is more subtle than the JP covers.

i used taillight tint. you can purchase the kit at lamin-x.com. i didnt buy the kit though, i bought bulk pieces that were big enough to cover. stuff is kind of difficult to work with if you dont know what youre doing but its cheap. apply, let tack up, push everything down, then trim to fit. the kit is pre cut so it may be harder to contour.

If you never open and close your trunk then that would be ok. Everytime you shut your trunk, your putting pressure on it and its bound to crack. The proper way would be to weld it closed and apply a thin coat of polyestor (sp) putty.

the only reason i did it was that we offer the service. sometimes people ask and i say "we do it at our shop. what kind of car you want it done on?" i want them painted so it looks cleaner, but then i wouldnt be advetising the product WE use.

Holy crap. That black GS is crazy. I'm going to shave them.
If I cut the wires that go to the inner headlights will it set off an idiot light or throw a code?

sorry to chime in so late. So basically, the JP pieces are "inserts", full FRP pieces that you bolt in. Obviously, your light warning will go off on your dash because your light is gone. The main difference is that the JP inner tails are "recessed" a bit and not rounding out like the OEM lights. Its not flush to the trunk lid. You can kinda see what I am talking about. For me, I am biased and I like this look or the shaved look as well. The tinted or painted version doesn't look that bad either. Still a clean look. I do miss the OEM look sometimes... Hell, I miss just driving the damn thing...
I have more pics somewhere on my CPU, but I've been to lazy to look. Here are 2 pics I found real quick

Just purchased the Jp inners .. It replaces the whole light .. and needs to be painted but you wont have a dash out light because they have a spot for the bulbs so you can still plug it in and no light to shine thru ..
