Is this height VIP?

I'm so tired of hearing people in America say "it's got to be slammed to be VIP...." that I decided to make a thread just to prove you wrong.  Like politics, there's a left (lets call it conservative in this case) and a right (we'll call that extreme) and obviously, everything in between the left and right.  The left in this case would be conservative / mild / EXE style drops, the right is the extreme slammed hardcore VIP "bozo" look.

So, here are several 2 page spread ads, which these companies pay tons of money for  which have NO slammed cars in them. If you've ever done ads, which I've done many, a full page is expensive, roughly $5,000 if it's a good magazine, and 2 page spread is VERY expensive.  These ads are from WORK, Connoisseur, Visconti, Junction Produce, Amistad, Auto Couture, Lowenhart, etc.  All these companies can afford whatever they want in their ads, and what do they CHOOSE to show?  Moderate dropped cars, that's what they show.  Some companies like Kranze show slammed cars (one of the only ones I found to be honest), but they are not the majority.  On this Junction Produce ad, NONE of the cars in it are slammed, and they show about a dozen cars in this ad.

The point here is this: you do NOT have to be slammed to be VIP.  Obviously, that is the preference of many American VIP enthusiasts on this site, but obviously, these companies that MAKE all these VIP parts / wheels / etc. can afford whatever they want. So they choose to show CONSERVATIVE drops, which look CLEAN and HIGH CLASS.  Some of the "bozo" cars look like they belong in East L.A. ghettos, while every car in these ads put out by companies that make and founded VIP STYLE look like they belong in the Valet line at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, or the Beverly Hills Hotel, etc.

For myself, when the valet at Trump National Golf Course in Palos Verdes Estates (I've driven to several business lunches there) says "nice car man" before handing me the keys, I know my car has a high class feel. After all, these aren't illegal immigrant valet's at some restaurant on Melrose, they're mostly college kids that live in the P.V. Hills to begin with and they're used to valeting Bentley's and Ferrari's all day, yet they give props to my Q45.  To me, THAT is VIP.  And EVERY car in the following ads are VIP (besides the Honda mini-van of course).

There's a whole RANGE of what's "accepted" for VIP style, and it starts with the cars platform.  VIP = a nice drop (mild to wild), high-quality, good fitting wheels and other tasteful mods to create a high class feel of luxury and style.  Buying a beat-ass 15 year old VIP Chassis car and slamming it does not make it a VIP Car. It's the whole package that makes it VIP.  My Q has: moderate drop with quality parts, nice looking, high quality wheels, painted lower trim & front spoiler, exhaust, window tint, curtains, small drink table, Navigation / DVD headunit, LCD headrest monitors, LED plate lights, and it's as clean as fuck.  My car is VIP/EXE styled, it's just not extreme.

I'm not saying slammed isn't VIP because it obviously is and like I said, it's many of your preference which is totally cool, but conservative drops / styling is also a BIG part of VIP and you can't exclude it when it's used by 90% of the companies that make the parts / wheels / etc. in the first place.

If this doesn't put an end to it, or you still disagree and say "none of these cars are VIP because they're not "slammed"" then obviously, you know more than the people who started this whole thing.

All those cars look lower than your car. That should be the ride height at least. And wheel ads usually wouldn't slam a car because they want to show off the wheels.

If your stance sucks, nothing else matters. No amount of puddle lights or tables will make you any more VIP. Your car will just look like a stock car lowered with springs on wheels. That's why I'm ditching my weak drop for air suspension.

springs are lame. springs do not lower the car enough. if you prefer springs, go back to nico or club lexus. around here, you need to get rid of wheel gap. The KEY movement of this style is STANCE. Tsuraichi. fenders and wheels as one. Get that right, or go somewhere else.

There's no need to get into another debate about it alright falk? You do your style one way, we'll do it the right way.

The "right way" yawn.  As I figured, you guys know more than the folks who CREATED this style.  Typical American arrogance.  You sound like a bunch of Evangellical Christians on the far right, you probably think Bush is doing "a heck of a job".

There is a colossal difference between manufacturer marketing preferences to reach a broader audience (like people who like the wheels but aren't into VIP) and defining a tuning style.

Ohhh lord. The JP ad isn't for wheels, it's an ad for body kits.  And every single one of these ads were in either VIP Style / Car or afEXE.  Pretty well targeted audience if there ever was one.  I don't think most people who aren't into VIP bother with or better yet, ever even heard of any of these publications.

F.L.S still baiting and trying to convince others that his car looks ok.
 
Your routine was as tiresome a year or two ago as it is now.
 
BTW-all the cars in those adds have a lower, cleaner stance than your car...

I hate to say this..but you're view on this is all off.  What was stated above about ads is correct.  But if you look at any of the meets or shows...how do you think the vast majority of cars are sitting?  The truth of the matter is that stance DOES matter, greatly in the impact of a vehicle..especially in vip.  You mention "the folks who CREATED this style"...what was one of those peoples motto's?  Wide and Lowdown...what does that tell you?

I'm glad you're happy with your style.  I'm glad you appreciate the minimalist style.  BUT, you need to also appreciate the actual style.  It's okay if you choose not to do so on your car..hey, it's your car.  But don't for a second think that your way of doing things is what the majority conforms too...because I think you actually DO know that it's not.  I'm not here to bash you, but I am here to make sure that the style is not lost in translation from some falsetto ideals that stray from the truth.

Stance more importantly than fitment...is key.  If you don't get this right..your car will NEVER have the impact that it could have.

man this thread is just a horrible idea. everybody knows you can pull off a clean look without slamming the car. all this thread is going to do is start a bunch of fights and you have insured that by calling people out. people are going to react to that more than what you are saying, so you have defeated your own purpose.
 
vip is a complete package, but there are 2 very important things no matter what (see avatar).
 
something i've learned on this site is there are going to be people who disagree with what you do no matter how you do it. if you think you need to justify it then thats on you, but understand by starting this you hae opened up the floood gates. its obvious that you are saying this because you chose not to go very low and you were offended by the thread in the vip101 section. understand that that section is there to get newbies off to a good start. if somebody knows whats up and chooses to do it a different way thats completely different than somebody who doesn't know being told what to strive for. now you are going to hear people telling you that your car isn't low enough because you brought it up. don't get mad, you brought it on yourself.

Ding, ding, ding!!!!  Falk...read this again.  And in reference to the JP ads for aero..you think they aren't also trying to sell their Scara wheels as well????

I don't care, I like arguments.  My car is lower than the Celsior in the WORK ad, and it's about 1/2 an inch higher than the white Crown Athlete which is perfection IMO.

I only want to make the point that there is more than ONE way to do something.

Reference my post. This is what he does. He left a while ago when Van and a few others got sick and tierd of his 'my car is vip- you all don't know vip, my wife is japanese,' routine. Evidently working as a graphic designer for Simpson Racing and having a wife from Japan has given him the ability to better understand, interpret, and shape vipcar tuning and styling. Whether he was rocking horrible fitting OZ wheels, or sitting on Tein springs that gave him a minial drop at best- he was always on the true cutting edge of VIPcar tuning.

Then say that...don't make it out like everyone else but you is doing it wrong..because that's the way you came off.  The point is..your style is not the majority...far from it.

For 1 thing, I didn't call anyone out.  For another, I have a mild, clean, EXE/VIP ride, and that's a fact.

There is more than 1 way, but like I said, most of you are about as narrow minded as an evangelical Christian, or better yet, the Taliban.  "There is only ONE way! If you don't like it you can 'git out"

And for the record, Van and I have been on good terms for the years that I was away from this site, and we still are.

Most all those cars are a lot lower than yours is. Adds are marketing for parts..they are not trying to prove to folks what is and is not VIP..you have to remember that those adds are in JApanese magazines targeted towards Japanese folks..We just get lucky enough to get them..if they were intended for us in the USA..they would be in enlglish..IF now take those adds out and look into those mags where you see actual driven cars..the ones that have a short write up and what not..all those cars that are at car shows are sliggity slammed..AND MOST OF THEM ON COILOVERS..not springs...YEs there is class in a mildly lowered BRAND NEW car..but both your car and my car are not BRAND NEW...Now if you look at the cars at the JAPAN Auto Saloon shows..all the display cars are sliggity slammed... not mildly dropped. ANother thing EXE is not targeting ride hieght its is targeting aero,wheel fitment and fender work...but should be slammed as well...I think you are just searching for approval from us..and do you really need our approval..I myself could care less what most people thinkg about my ride..I know its VIP..I dont have to post pics of car adds to prove it. I ride low low low low low low low low..my motto is low and wide..with nice camber..At one point you use to tell me that why would I copy another car..why not be unique..and My answer was becuase if my car looks like that then I am forsure to get respect in the VIP community..now I can honestly say that you will not find another Q in the states right now that looks like mine..I have done so much to the interior to be unique and different. Now my exterior needs some work I am pretty close to accmplashing my goal...
 
any ways Falk you dont need anyones approval..you have been set in a very conservative way for a very long time..its not a big deal..so dont make it a big deal..just be happy, but dont start trying to prove 1 million wrong..

All the cars in those ads are "much lower" than mine??  I don't think so.

op: just to make it 100% clear, you are making yourself look bad by begging for acceptance. it is obvious you are doing this not because you think it needs to be addressed but because you got offended when your style was not accepted in the [B][I]VIP101 [/I][/B]section. do your thing and stop worrying about what everybody else thinks.
