job choice dilemma
so aawhile back i got hired at wells fargo but they had no position available for tellers. so i went a found another job just recenty. im hired basically, but need background to clear(they dont mind misd.)
but today i checked and they have a spot for me as a teller.
wells:
$10 base
20 hours a week
5 minutes from house
shellsvacation:
8+comm ($100 per guest i bring in)
30 hours a week
30 minutes from house
i think im proficient at selling, but the thing is this just could be unstable. if i dont meet a quote i will lose the job. and wells fargo is a stable commited job. tahts the maint thing im worried about
forgot to mention, the other job is getting people in to buy timeshares, vacation packages, hotel rooms, etc...
anyone have experience in timeshare sales and know what its like?
what job would you guys go for?

WELLS Fargo has more opportunity for growth in your pay I'd think over time. It's a steady job and you know what to expect. You can always work it from part time to full time if they see you doing well.

I agree with elpresidente. There are proably more options/opportunity for you in the future working with WF. I know a lady who has been working at Chase for close to 25 yrs and is making 6 figures.

oh yea, i definately know its something great for the future in terms of growth.
but i feel with this productivity based business, i will be making more in a shorter amount of time, even if there is no growth.
i guess my real question is; does anyone know about selling time shares and vacation packages? or might have experience in the field?
thanks guys.

i'm a licensed real estate agent out here in hawaii...the trick is to know a LOT of people...your network must involve people who have the means to buy...not 17-18 year old kids you smoke trees with and crack jokes on...try to make friends with everyone...your friends parents, your neighbors, anyone you meet, etc...it's all word of mouth really...that and having good chemistry with everyone you come in contact with...that is the only way you will sustain yourself in selling high priced items...
whatever you decide, goodluck...

well keep in mind im only going to be the marketer, the person who convinces people to come in. not sell the actual products

Then you are already at a disadvantage because you have no control of what happens after they walk in the door.

Keep in mind Tam, the great economy we have is going to go into a recession (or is already in a sort of recession) and less people will be going on vacation...the housing bubble recently burst, and a LOT of people are losing homes etc and probably won't want that vacation anymore...I'd stick with the steady job as a teller. 200 bucks a week doesn't sound like much, but in the end it has a lot more growth opportunity than a sales job. You could EASILY move up in a bank, if you focus on school and accounting, and then move up and make MONEY.
The incentive of commission based sales are very inviting. It's hard to push those sales though, plus you could lose your job if you don't meet a quota. Quota's won't happen if people don't walk through the door.
