How did you figure it out?

Whats up everybody? I was wondering how many of you were able to figure out what you wanted to be in your life...I know a lot of people that go to college are undecided, so they finish up their general education and later down the line they figure out what they wanted to major in and eventually get their dream job(well maybe for some). How did it hit you that all of a sudden it clicked and you said to yourself hey i want to this?

when my g/f got pregnant, i knew i had to find a 'real' job instead of slangin'...starting working part-time for a sheetmetal company and told the owner i wanted something full time...put in a good word for me and started prepping cars at hawaii's biggest body shop...tried the body side but it wasn't for me...went back to the paint side and now i'm a full-time painter...about a year away from being a commission painter...i decided this is what i wanted to do because it's really really good money and i get a lot of personal satisfaction out of seeing my cars painted and buffed...
 
however, i do make a majority of my money in stocks and real estate...painting is just for fun and it's a job i love...i guess you can say i just 'fell' into this career...

i've always leaned toward something in the medical field, it's a steady work place. I bounced from studying for a pharm tech, to pharmacist, didn't like it. Looked into radiologist (x ray tech) and didn't want to drive an hour for school every day, AND hhave to work in a hospital full time plus a full time job. 

I like kids, and started looking into respiratory therapy,  they make good money, and you can specialize in neo-natal care, as in babies. works for me. 

You find something you like, and you stick with it.

coincidence. i have yet to figure out what i wanna do, but im grown and i make decent money and hopefully one day ill make enough money for this to keep me happy. as of now im content.

We are in the same field.  I graduated from college with a BS majoring in psychology.  I graduated and couldn't find a HR job so then a friend recommend me looking into nursing.  I looked into it and landed a job as a nurse assistant in the ICU (this is my current job).  At first I didn't like what nurses were doing and told a few nurses that I'd rather do radiology (what is more easier than just taking pictures?), respiratory therapist, or physical therapist.  Nurses do much more work but they get paid more.  RT is a lot of work compared to PT and radiology.  RT has to make their rounds and are more intense, especially when there is a code blue.  Anyway, I have my mind set on nursing school :shrug:

It's cool...but that's why I'm specializing in Neo-natal care, you stay in the LnD department...I don't want to deal with old people. It was either babies, or ER for me. I'm only going for the extremes lol.

ER is crazy though, my mom told me a friend of hers worked in the ER as an RT.

*warning gross story*

The only one time he ever wanted to throw up, and almost couldn't handle it, was when there was a man, who had tried to commit suicide, shot himself, and the kick from the gun shot the bullet forward. The mans lower jaw, nose, and bridge were all blown off/mangled. There was some mucus stuff that was oozing out of his head, and every time he took a breath, it sucked back in and when he let out, it started oozing out again. It was his brains. Imagine having to intubate that person.

so yeah. Either the ER in a fast paced environment, or the Neo Natal care, working with babies. I'll stick to the babies. 

Nursing school is cool, and yeah they get paid really well, and it pays off if you specialize in something. 

Too bad around here it takes forever to get in the school, and you can't work while in the program, it's too intense. 

The RT program is a bit easier (so i have heard) and it's only 750/semester here. not bad, and takes 4 semesters to complete. 

i think it goes something like Xray Tech, RT, Nurse in the pay dept. i know x ray techs around here get paid about 24 starting, RT's get 30+ starting, and nurses are about 45+ starting? maybe less for the nurses...My step mother, made over 90k last year as a nurse, and that was with working part time for almost half the year too. 2 days a week! She's been in the field for 20 years though, specialized in Obstetrics, and is bi-lingual.

tinted windows throughout college and was supposed to go into the medical field, i wanted to be an orthodontist.  halfway through i said f it and just dropped out to open my shop.  havent looked back since.

All my cheaper toy cars are in pieces from disassembly for custom paintjobs with nail polish, and later, model paints.

I used to want to be a lawyer, or an optician, but I hate public speaking and research, and I loathe math.

Only thing I ever wanted to do was customize cars.

Unfortunately, that's not what my job is, but that's just because I need money. I get jealous when my co-worker is selling wheels and I'm stuck posting invoices.

i guess i was in your footsteps too. i mean i been in community for 4 yrs now still trying to figure out what i wanted to be. i tried a few electical classes and it really sparked my interest and now im stick to it to maybe become some sort of engineering technician and want to further progress by becoming an elec engineer just the physics and math is killer but theres no turning back now. my goal is to just get out of community and transfer some university. im still pretty young and get plenty of sass from my parents for taking so long. but i try not to let it get to me and do it right the first time then get a degree and go back for another just cuz i dont like it. but i feel like everyone has their talent in someway and will find it. people always tell me do what you love and money wont matter. but its not true IMO. money is everyting in society now not tryin to sound materialistic but its true. you either work a job you freaking hate doing and get payed well enought to have a comfortable living or work a job you love and struggle. cuz at the end of the day your not enjoying your job your enjoying that paycheck. so take your time and try new things something will spark your interest and run with it.

Went from Engineering -> Nursing -> Computers

I was waiting to get into the Nursing programing at the school I was transfering to, but my dad mentioned that I should take some computer classes to kill time. So I took some of those computer classes and I liked it. Now I am a Computer major and will be graduating soon. I have some dyslexia and If I can figure something out, I think you can too. :biggthumpup:

For me I was undecided and couldnt figure out wth i wanted to major in. So I looked into medical field, went to orientation and took a test, they asked me to walk around and see what i thought of it. I went from class to class and realized that this isnt for me. I eventually took a part time job at a local casino as a cashier. After my three month review they were so impressed with my performance and offered me a full time position. I had been pretty much working my way up since and worked my way up to a floor operations manager. I soon realized that running a business is what i want to do with my life.
