coilover springs from an S chassis??

I know that S14 springs fit the Y33, but would a set of springs from Tein HE coilovers fit also? I am assuming NO, but I thought I'd ask before I pass up a de4al for a full set.

One of the main reasons I say no is that these are the specs given to me about them...

(8kg ones)
Inside diameter is 65mm
Length is 175mm or so

(6kg ones)
Inside diameter is 65mm
Length is 250mm

Highly doubt it. The inside diameter is too small LMAO and its gonna be too long. They belong on the shape of a full coilover kit. Aftermarket springs or s14 springs are wider and fit the shocks alot better. Its like putting a small condom on a person who needs to use the XL Magnums , which i cant use because im JDM like that ahem just kidding. BTW I like how your car sits as it is on your signature.

I beleive the KG is too rough... U need like 12G or higher and the ride will be smooth/nice rebound..

My buddy has 240SX with 8kg in front and 6kg in the rear on coilover.. The ride is pretty rough and it rebound like hitting the pothole... He took my Lexus for a ride (12G front and 8G rear) and he told me he like the Lexus ride better then his ride..

Thats comparing apples to oranges. Completely different suspension designs. You realize a higher kg will make it even worse cause youre increasing spring rate. A 240 weighs like 2700lbs a q45 is like 4k+ or so.

Anyway, back on topic. You cant use a coilover spring by itself on a stock type shock. Just not meant to go together. Of course, if you used some type of sleeves like ground controls with some modding to the shocks it can work.

exactly. If you do go for CHEAP coilovers, get ground controls and nothing else. Knockoff brands that are like 40 bux will make you want to shoot yourself in the head.

or buy my insurance coilovers

the answer though is no, the springs from the coilovers wont fit the stock strut. I wouldn't waist time with ground controls either, if your going ubercheap then just buy a cheap set of S14 drop springs and learn to enjoy the crappy ride. :)

You can't use S13 coilovers!
The front hub mounting design is COMPLETELY different!
Take a look at the FSM for the Y33 and then take a look at the FSM for the S13.

Woah....
That would be news to me, but then I haven't been on this site very long.
Plus, I've only had my Y33 since Jan.
Sorry!

I tried doing some searching, but all I got was a bunch of stuff that wasn't relevant.
Can you share some links please?

TIA

actually edit: I don't think it will work for the front. the y33 has that troublesome spindle attached to strut body.

That is what I was getting at in my original reply.
I mean, what is point in being able to just put on the rear coilovers?
It would be a waste of time and money.

the only reasonably trouble free way to do it would be to use the rear's of the s13-s14 with custom spring rates (I forget which is the longer one), and use a threaded coilover sleeve over stock strut body for the front. Then order some custom spring rates to match the y33 weight.

but then you'd have to worry about your front strut rod travel, as you will not have much when your coilover sleeves are set real low.

I believe the S14's are longer, and I'm thinking the S14 coilover would make more sense since the S14 and Y33 subframe and suspension arms are nearly identical. Especially the RUCA.

oh ya I forgot about that.

but by the time u spend all the money and time get all those parts, you mind as well have just bought the proper y33 coilover set. You can already set full tap coilovers for y33 really low so there is really no real benefit.

^ Those parts can be had for almost nothing....My buddies shop has half of them lying in a junk pile out back. The only thing that costs is the five lug hubs. Now, it is a little work but it makes it easier to find parts down the road...

Okay... well... yea... This requires you to pretty much replace all your front control arms, spindles, bearing, hubs, etc... The amount of hassle and time, plus the minimal amount of money saved just doesn't seem worth it. However, the ease of finding coilovers and getting them rebuilt is a plus. Is there any advantage in using S13 vs S14 coilovers?

I should have read that thread a little more before I asked my previous question.

Looks like you should use a set of S13 coilovers because the S14 rears are too long.

Will a S14 front spindle/upright bolt directly to the Y33 lower control arm ball joint?

the entire reason for doing this (for me) was for the performance suspension options becuase i wanted a good performer, not jsut be low

My requirements in a suspension are pretty much completely opposite than 90% of peopel on this board honestly.

Why woudl you do that, when yuo can just use JUST as common, if not MORE common s13 parts?

This is why I am asking the question: Can S14 spindles bolt directly to Y33 LCA ball joints?

S13 and S14 LCAs come with different sized ball joints. So which ones work with the Y33 LCA ball joints?

S14 had a FACTORY 5-bolt lug option, so hubs and bearings are easier and CHEAPER to find.
S13 only came with 4-bolt lug pattern. 5-bolt upgrades for the S13 are more expensive.

I'll give you props for being the first English speaker to do this.

I have extensive knowledge of the S13 & S14 platform and I am VERY interested in this upgrade.
I'm just looking to see if their is another way to do this that you might have overlooked.

So, when you used the S13 spindle, you use the S13 LCA, right?
You didn't bother to see if the S14 LCA would bolt directly to the Y33 LCA, right?

I've got a S14 front spindle sittiing in my garage.
I'm going to test my theory that it will bolt directly to the Y33 LCA.
If it works, I think it's a better way to go about this upgrade.

i theorize it will (s14 to y33)

the length of the S13 and Y33 LCA are the same
but i didnt try and fit the spindle to the Y33 LCA

I too have extensive experience in S/R/WGNC/chassis so your not alone.

BUT, if you already have an s14 5 lug hub....get some s13 hubs
I picked up an extra set from a friend in cali for 25 shipped.....cheapo

Well, in the other thread, nextgear1 says that the S14 spindle won't work because the taper is a little different.
But, I still want to try it out.

On another note...
S13 coilovers are the way for us here in the USA.
A31 or C33 coilovers are not really an option.
It would be easier to find proof of extraterrestrial life then to find to find A31 or C33 coilovers here.
Heck, the C33 wasn't even sold here.
