Yeah, it is pretty true about it's who you know. You gotta get out there and make contacts and hustle to get a feature spot.

Yep this thread is all and agreed! It's definatly who you know and not what you have or know!
That goes for carshows and anything you do in life! Trust me I've seen it and lived it time and time again! Nice article! LOL!

If you dont know anyone, the only thing you can do is drive everywhere. Chances are, someone in the biz will come up to you as long as you dont look like a Dik. I wouldnt trust anyone though, im not risking getting car jacked :pat:

It's not who you know, but who knows you.

You can have a contact list full of everyone's phone number but that doesn't mean anything if no one knows who you are.

^^this is the truest statement in this thread. we have gotten a few cars featured and are lucky enough to have kept in touch with photographers/writers and editors. thankfully we have been able to keep on good terms and hope to be able to bring more features and represent texas to the fullest. but its not only who you know and who knows you, its also what you have. you wont see very many CL type cars features, high offset, not very low, with generic lip kits being featured. if you want to be featured, you have to be able to sell yourself, plain and simple.

I see a lot of you guys' cars online in 'other places' , if the site is popular (Such as VSC and ClubLexus) then they know who you are.

Trust me....Industry heads read forums as well to get feedback on their product

I know A thru C List entertainment people who are on CL and a few other boards to keep up with the latest car trends n suff. Ive even mentioned this board to a few people in the biz who were 'confused' about the whole VIP/DUB thing....

TRUTH.

My 38' Chevy Streetrod was noticed while I was driving to work in it one day. The Editor's son was on vacation in Hawaii and drove by the other direction and flipped a U. They shot the car 2 days later at the beach. So you never know. Even though I have family deep in the streetrod and custom scene, it played no part in getting the car noticed. Although it might have made the difference in being a feature car, and not just a one pager when they got my background. Here's a pic I took up from my lanai:

Neil is a friend and practically a neighbor of mine. He would laugh at that statement!

I've been approached several times about my MR2 and GS, but so far haven't felt either car was quite finished... I need the article to represent me and my business in the best possible light, therefore I've always answered "no, thanks" so far. I wouldn't even let the Junction Produce guys photograph it last summer (I should say I "respectfully declined," the Japanese prefer this) because the sun had gone down and I felt that it didn't do justice to the hard work Joe @ Backyard Creations put into the paint...

So part of it is choosing the right exposure... if you're not in the industry, ANY exposure is good... if you are in the industry, you might not want Neil to feature your GS in HCI mag. This would limit your options for a higher-end mag like MLE or Makes & Models because they don't want to duplicate articles.

And Editors typically don't favor cars that are black - they don't photograph well or jump off the page. It's all about selling TONS of magazines, everything that is put in ink is scrutinized.

The GS will be shot for M&M and Redline soon, though... :)
