The 2007+ W221 Benz S class vs lexus LS460
I just saw the movie Michael Clayton a few days ago, and half of it literally showcased the w221 S class. I wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes threw some money at the movie creators.
anyone else really feeling the w221 benz S class ? the more I see it on the road, the more I stare at it with amazement.
I'm a big big body japanese car fan such as the ls460, but I have to call it as it is, cosmetically, the S class is SICK! The german's once AGAIN, have managed to break new styling cues and styling trends with originality and style.
strictly from a styling + originality stand point, the S w221 whoops the LS460 in every way.

Not when you compare it to the LS600hL. I'll take the LS600 over the S-class any day.
Remember Lexus' motto for the LS600hL...."Power of a v12, Economy of a V8"
Totally ripping into the S600, in terms of performance, styling, price, etc.

I don't know, I see S class all the time and they do nothing for me, I don't like the fender bulges at all and overall, it's just, meh. I really, really like the LS460 though, and I never liked Lexus that much, but the new LS is tits.

Look at the styling then drive the 2 of them. It's not a hard choice. Nothing against the LS, the merc is just a better car. The one thing the LS does have going for it is it can run 22's SLAMMED where the S looks high-boy on 22's even with a drop.

Have you driven both of them?

Love the 220, the 221 looks like a frog.
It'll take a few years before it grows on me. The LS600hl or whathave you will be hardpressed to keep up with an S600. Economy of a V8 is about all it's got going for it. If it can keep pace with a 12.4 second quatermile then i'll give it its just dues.
It's all about acceleration, power and toys when you get into the V12 arena. The headhoncho is the S600, no games no matches. The only other car that can match or better it, in its class, is itself LOL! the S65 AMG.
They ripped the LS600hL a new one here =(

For another, owners can say they drive a hybrid. In the final analysis, the only point of the LS600hL is to assuage the guilt of shallow, label-conscious snobs. That’s an expensive cure for a senseless affliction. In that sense, the ‘h’ in the model’s name might as well stand for hypocrite.

Don't get me wrong, the LS is a nice car without a doubt, but it's not ready to take on the Top Dog just yet. BMW still doesn't have anything that can take on the S600 yet. Handling, Power, Prestige, topped off with a 3 Pointed Star is a lot to take on.
I'd spend my 100,000 on a traded S600 before a Lexus.

Yessur! Me and Aaron waited till october 20th when the LS came out to drive it that day. It was so fresh when we drove it the salesman couldn't show us the self parking cause they weren't trained on it yet. Sitting in the backseat durring the test drive the 40 year old salesman said "The features in this car are just.... retarded." I couldn't agree more. One of the nicest car's i've ever seen. But when you take into account the style of the S550 and the solidness of it the LS just doesn't hold up. Don't get my wrong, I have a old S and i've had a LS a few years ago, I love both the cars. From a drivers standpoint though the S blows the LS out of the water. They are both very nice cars, it all comes down to personal preference. I've had 4 lexus's and 1 mercedes. I don't have a brand preference I just call it like I see it. In this case, the S has my vote.
EDIT: I will say this..... the LS is MUCH easier to use off the bat then the mercedes, but I imagine that after owning the car for a few months would make you just as proficient in dash operation as in the LS. When you drive the LS it's like driving twice the GS. When you drive the mercedes its like driving a S (if that makes sense). The mercedes steering wheel is such navajo leather stitched sexness placing my hands on it sold me on the car.

design wise, u have to give credit where credit is due.
just ike bmw did with their 7 series, mercedes did it with their S class.
mercedes broke new ground with the overall design with the fender buldges, I hated them at first but then you start to realize what their intent was.
it really is a very unique and daring design, like nothing ever done before.

Sclass all the way. Im still not sold on the new LS460. Its a nice car and has lots of cool features but it does nothing for me. I wont even look twice on the road when I see one. The S550 on the other hand, looks like a boss is driving it.

Price, yes. Styling, different people have different tastes. Performance, Hell F*ckin no.
Have you ever been in a S600? They under rate them from the factory to get more S55 sales and also to keep insurance down. You can expect 490+ WHP from the S600. Throw a chip and a free flowing exhaust (stock is very restrictive to keep cabin noise to a minimum) and your looking at a low 11 second quarter mile car.
Ill still take a Masser over the two any day of the week.
