Extending lips on 1pc wheels?

Is it possible to extend the lips on 1pc wheels? Can extended lips be welded on? I heard of this but I do not know if it is true and where it can be done.

Side note I just got a pair of OZ opera 2 piece chrome rims, the lips have some curb rash- Can I get larger replacement lips? 

I have never seen the lip extended, as the weld tends to be a bit messy. I have seen the backside extended, then a spacer run so the wheel sits more flush to the fender and is able to run a bigger tire. This was on a WS6 trans-am where 2 extra inches were welded into the backside so a 315 drag radial could be run.

a two or three piece converison doesnt sound too crazy.... if you could find a face that had the same bolt pattern as the barrel then you might be able to pull something off, only prob is it might be quite costly

Are there even "lips" on the 1pc wheels? Anything is possible... but cost involved will probably make it not worthwhile

i know a lot of vw guys buy oldschool bbs rims and change out the lips.
i really want to get them for my ssr's.

check with the euro peeps and old skool hot rod freaks..i heard they stretch the lips on the there steelies to make them deeper by weldling on wider lips..i saw a set for sale before on ebay..they were steelies for a 91 vw gti with 3 and 4" lips...steelies...sold for $1200....
