Aero kits and Insurance..WTF

Ok guys I know the knockoff topics have been pretty popular. but let me just start by saying this..

SO I have made up my mind and want to order the Aimgain smartline aero kit right. So I call my insurance company and asked what I would need to do to up my insurance to cover this kit should anything happen. I was basiclly told that I could up my insurance to add parts and would need to provide reciepts and what not. They asked what I was looking to be adding as we where going through the upgraded policy. Well when they found out the price of the aero kit they basically did not want to move forward and said that most likely it would not be covered in full and many other sorry ass excusses. They said that those cost exceed the actual OEM replacement parts and it sounds like IF it got this kit and someone hit me or I got into an accident that they not cover the kit at full cost.
I have called around all moring and was told the same from alot of the insurance companies Such as state farm, AGI, Geico and others..I was goint to order the aimgain kit this morning and was all excited but now I am like WTF...thats to much $$$ not to be covered...
For you folks with AERO are your parts covered or are you just willing to risk the loss possiblities. IF you are covered who are you going through. I tried to add previous parts such as my grill, winkers wheels but they will not cover those either...
IF I cant get these parts covered it really puts a hold on by build..next step would be just paint the moldings and have the fenders proffesionaly done which I was going to do anywayz once I got my aero..and just call it a day..as much as I want to get this aero kit I am do know If I am willing to take that risk....

Now after hearing all this I am really confused and to be honest with you DONT care if you bash me for this...Knockoff kit never sounded more attractive BUT ONLY because of price to repair/replace. I would be lieing if I said that it did not cross my mind. It is very interesting how things can change from one minute to the next because of insurance problems. I am not about to buy a top of the line kit someone hit me and then go through some Shit after raising and adding to my policy for them to tell me we can not cover your aero kit:saiyancrunks: then to have to go buy another rear bumper or if it was my fualt a front bumper.. and what ever else...

In the past I was able to have my wheels and system covered but WHY do they not want to cover these parts. Is it because they are improted, the cost or what????

Pay 2 Play....its what seperates the contenders from the pretenders.

I had an Autocouture kit backed into by sum chick...my ins company paid for it and I ended up going with the vertex...which was a big mistake.....but thats another story. :pat:

Pay for more coverage from your company (easy)or get a stated value (expensive) policy and go drive like a mad man

If it's a built show car, then "pay to play"

If it's your personal car, and its A HOBBY, and its FOR FUN, then why not man! Everything should be relative. If it was a $20-30k car that'd be one thing. (with all respect) your car is only worth like what.... $8k? 10k? I dunno what year it is. There's whats ideal and whats realistic. It's fiberglass man, its not like a set of wheels.

YEah I here you. Its more for me..I most likely will not be entering the car in shows. But I do want the aimgain kit. BUt I am not a gambler and should something happen the insurance companies say one thing and will do another when its time to make things right.

I dont think that has anything to do with if your a True as Denis said VIPian. Has to do with making the right decisions as well as the smartest ones at that.

I was so stocked because I was going to call to order out my kit and my wife said hey what about insurance better check with it prior to doint anything..Glad she did so I can be aware of everything up front. We men buy on impulse and its nice to have a female around to keep your feet planted.

I'm with AAA and I asked about this...the guy who set me up on my insurance policy just said " When you get your parts, bring me the receipts, we'll have a declared value of aftermarket parts based on your receipts."

It's like 10 dollars per every 1k in aftermarket parts on your policy. He showed me, he was like " 4k? only 40 bucks more on your policy"

Who do you have?

Check out AAA if you can.

Just google collector car ins. and you'll get the ones that do 'stated value' to price shop. Every big company will do it as well. You've done a lot of work on your car and it would be sad if anything happened while being under insured

You can place a value on it and have it protected.

Copied form LJC.....

NAw I don't have insurance on mine for a few reasons:

1. Not tryna pay that much for insurance!

2. It's part of the game if somethin happens, my last car was full kitted before it was tolded had atleast close to 10K in to the car including wheels, carbon fiber hood, etc. When it was totaled I jus took it as a loss at let the junk yard keep ALL the parts! Only took out the stero sytem......

3.Don't want to go through the hassel of dealing w/ tryna get insurance for all the aftermarket parts, because of exactly what your going through!

4.If you do get in an accident your gonna need more than jus a bodykit and if it's something small a body shop should be able to fix it......

GOTTA PAY TO PLAY MY FRIEND! CHARGE IT TIO THE GAME!
jus be more careful!!!!

I had a lady run me off the road in my GTI and my whole kit was replaced by her insurance. Including the sideskirt that wasnt damaged. And my friend had a stated value policy on his GTI when it was totaled he had to go through some litigation but got $65k for the car. But his family owns a chain of body shops so that had a little bit of sway with the insurance companies they do tons of work for.

My buddy told me that Geico could do it as long as you have the receipts. If not then go AAA. They cost $$$ but they'll get your insurance work done quick.

Pay to play as others have said. I haven't had fake aero on any of my cars, nor will I ever. Quality IS an issue, though some say it's not...riiiiight. Seriously, I also wouldn't get it because it just wouldn't make me feel as "real" about my car. Even when i lived in Japan I was the same way..even though I didn't have to be. It's just me. You do what you want to do, but you asked the question.

As far as insurance..we're with USAA and they cover whatever as long as I have receipts..which is easy since I'm the one who produces the reciepts..haha.

BS. They don't cost as much as people think. Trust me, I was getting ripped off by 21st century or century 21 or whatever company that is.

Paying liability for a pos car for ONE MONTH is what AAA insured me for 6 months.

YEah thats what I figure. I had a phone call with the Gieco attorney that I know and he told me that stated policies are great policies but in reality there are loop wholes for the insurance companies. Lots of Classic cars worth tons of money have these policies and that should something happen they would NOT recovery what was stated to them.
First of all they will not pay shipping from Japan. Then once they find out about taking off the 5mile bumper foam or what ever you have to do to get those JDM parts on your insurance will drop you like a bat at of hell and will not pay for those parts. When the insurance adjust comes out they will inspect and if they are any good at their jobs they should know this...
I guess to some it up is that I will either have to risk it or go a different direction.

Like I siad before its not really an issue of what you may or may not think more than its an issue of who actually has this type of insurance and what company you are using.

If I dont get the aimgain kit do to the insurance issue I most likely will just paint my moldings fix the rear fenders and call it it day.

Wow.

Here, if you raise a fuss, insurance will most likely cover it... I don't recall there being any limit on payout for aftermarket mods... of course the car may be written off instead if the total damage is too much.

Funny story, one guy came to my shop with a genuine Ings +1 bumper on his RSX, we ordered a knockoff (the shop, not me), and the guy was cool with it! Incredible... I would have shat a brick if a shop tried to pull that on me.

The guy didn't even know what he had... he had just picked it out and paid for it, end of story.

call your insurance comp. and ask for an appraisal. take the car to a good body shop with your receipts. the insurance company may want professional reference when adding costs. they might not take your word for it. then they give you a call with your rate.

i have my car insured for 30k and my premium is just under 1200 for the year. i did this because if my car was stolen or totalled they would cut me a $12,000 check, when i paid well over that for the car. everything is insured on my car down to the fusa

What it all boils down to is this. DO I want to and I am I willing to take the chance.

I know that the insurance companies will give you a hell of a time when it comes to replacing a $3000 kit that is shiped from japan and you have to remove the crash support bars..If the adjusters sees that your vehicle will be labeled as an unsafe vehicle on the road and your inurance will drop you like a bad habbit.

Lots of you have had great input and ideas!

I paid for a lot of my parts in cash, and they were used. So I don't have any receipts for them. Would insurance still cover my mods?
