RIDING LOW W/ CAMBER IS FUN AND ALL UNTIL THIS HAPPENS...........

SO I was driving to work this morning and I was maybe a light away from work when my tire Blew!!!

The rim is okay, jus knicked up a bit. I was gonna get new tires tomorrow cause that's when I get paid but I didn't make it! This is a crappy feeling and makes you start to grow up and think about VIP and the whole stupid ride height thang! Oh well though I can only blame myself! Jus gotta charge it to the game and move on! Jus sucks cause now I gott roll on the spare! The upside though is that working for SNAP ON/Mitchell 1 I have access to a working bay and all the SNAP ON Tools!
 
*Just wanted to share w/ you guys about what to look forward to when you ride low w/ camber!

For the record I thought I had a few to go since my last tires made it to LA and back and looked worse than that!

hard to see in the pic, but did the inner bead just un-attach from the wheel ? 

Is that extreme camber wear or is that where the sidewall ripped  ? kinda hard to see in the pic.

Then the car is too low to have it put on a flat bed, and then you have to have your friend take apart his "coffee table" which is an 18" rim and tire that happens to be your bolt pattern and limp home 5 hours later. [COLOR=#dbdbdb]On all my cars I have had RWD and staggered fit, so no rotating. I have learned that you need to flip your tires regularly on a cambered car. Watch your tread and as you notice wear on the inside of the tire take it to a tire shop and have them take the tires off and flip them so what was on the inside is now on the outside. If you have directional tires they need to move them from one side of the car to the other also. [/COLOR]

But yea it's not a defect in tire! It's jus my tire was at it's max and streched to the point where the tire ripped... I guess you can say the bead gave way?? The tires are atleast
4-5months old so it's normal where and tear....

next time flip them before the tread starts to smooth out.

Naw,  this was a waitting too long issue! I knew the tire was wearing cause I check my tires but I had to wait tell my skrilla was right and that's why I was gonna buy them on pay day but I was too late! Normal Wear and tire! Jus gotta replace them sooner! WWhich is why I'm not mad cause I knew they were bad....
And I don't like going to the tire shop to begin w/ so flipping is not an option! Besides you can see the wear and once the tire starts to go the it'll go. Unless I had a hook up at a tire shop that would flip for free which I don't! :sad:

ANOTHER GOOD NOTE-
If I didn't have air bags my rims would have been FUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!! When the tire blew I raised the back up to keep the rim from hitting the ground! W/ the car getting lower from losing air it would have seriously jacked the rim up!

that sucks man but it shouldnt cost you more than $30 to flip those suckers and make them last another round.

qclass is talking about flipping them before the tread goes bald, just stick a finger in there and compare it too the outside tread!

i escaped from that situation by probably a week last summer. since then, i flip my tires at work and get an extra 3 months or so out of them. no sense in letting all that good tread on the outside go to waste!

welcome to the club.. i got wirebeads showing like crazy gotta flip them soon

usually u would keep an eye at the lowest part of the tread. It would usually be flipped once the tread on one side goes down to about 1mm remaining, right before it starts to get smooth..

for the cost of 30 bucks to flip, you'll get double your tire wear. It's better than spending 250+ bucks on a pair of tires.

the tire is worthless  once the wire beads start to show, cannot and should not be used even if u flip them.

But sometimes you can't flip the tire even if the wire isn't showing yet because the tire is already stretched and wears out the innerwall of the tire.

That's why u don't wait until the wire starts to show, U do it in advance before it starts to look bad.

X2. I cant flip my tires because the sidewalls are so stretched, I wouldnt want to risk unmouting and remounting them.

I'm running 245 35 on 10.5J and I really don't feel comfortable at all. The stretch is much more apparent and the bead is barely grasping the wheel. i don't feel safe, I'm gonna up to 255 35

Stretching isnt safe, if you can get away with a 255/35 then go for it.  I seriously wish I didnt have to stretch as much as I do but the end result is what makes me want to do it

it does help i have 6 225/40s left

I'm running a 225/35/19 on a 9. Not really a crazy stretch but still stretched out the inner sidewall.

and thats not buying new tools, its replacing old ones we leave in customers vehicles.

My strech isn't crazy! But it is enough to weaken the sidewall and 
bottom line I rather jus buy new tires and not worry for the next 4-5 months!

You can't generalize stretching,  IMO a mild stretch with mild camber is generally safe and can be as safe as having zero stretch. 

a big crazy stretch with abnormal camber would  take u into the[B] very unsafe[/B] range.

What are you alignment specs at ride height? It looks more then just camber its sawtoothing from incorrect toe. Anyways, that sucks man, its happened to every car ive owned.

Also camber/toe wear, and how low you drive has alot to do with all this!

When you flip the tires its usually both fronts or both backs, just put the wheels on opposite sides after or have them put both tires on opposite rims, either or.

I had two blow outs on a 225/35 on a 8.5" width wheel.  Thats just about as small of a stretch as you can get.  At the time I wasnt even lowered.

correct me if I'm wrong, but from the pics it looks more like straight up camber wear. I don't see any major signs of feathering.

that's actually a nice, even, smooth camber wear. Which is what u want if you plan on flipping. You want it to evenly wear out one side, so that when you flip you still have enough tread on the worn side.

Yes your right.  A blow out on a big tire would make you loose control but on a stretched tire, the tire will stay on the wheel for like half a mile usually before it completly falls off.

Probably with -10* not the -5 to -6 hes running. If its never been aligned after the suspension install I can guarantee theres a lot of toe. With that suspension design as you go lower you gain almost as much toe in as you do camber.

our low profile tires and big diameter wheels will actually help us in case of a blow out! =)

In most cases, yes. I had some situations where I swerved alittle and had to ride on the flat for a few miles because most highways in NY dont have a shoulder lane

unless you have camber like my and pancockas

the tire is pushed and im driving on wheel

inner wheel not outer.  As long as the lips are fine and the inner barrel doesnt bend, thats all that matters.  My inner lips are rougher then cheese grinders.  No one could see that though ;)

I jus raised the back as high as I could and drove slow!

Really sucks. Nice to hear that the rims are ok. Anyhow, try to balance it to see whether it still straight or not.

Qclass has the right answer. flip before the steel belts show and you have 2x's the tire life. with no worry. as fpr blowing the bead on a wheel i know what that's like, but imagine doing 50mph in the middle of a drift........
