projector retro

Does anyone have some insight on a retrofit for some projector headlights. im actually in the process. i have a set of j30 headlights that im trying to remove the projectors from and i was gonna use two of them to make some fog lights because my foglights got smashed from me driving stupid in parking lots not looking when i was parking. pics are always welcome cuz i kno they do this in japan everyday.

I converted my Y33 foglights to a Projector style from the S14.. didn't have to hack up the stock sealed foglight. If you pulled the foglight and looked at it, you'd think it came OE like that. I'll get better pictures and a write up if everyone shows some interest.

that looks nice..after looking at the size im debating if im going to do this or not...i dont have any g50 fog lights because i smashed both of mine and cant find anyplaces that have any. or im thinking of just making small cups that fit the size where the fogs use to be and mount the projectors in them. what do you think?

Are you retrofitting headlights or fogs? I just did my headlights recently, and most of the info you could want is available on the hidplanet.com forums.

eightsixgts, that turned out great! What did they look like before? I would love to see the process, even though i dont have a y33!

i'm not sure that you can just mount a projector without some kind of housing. then again, i'm not sure that you can't. might want to look into that...

heres the retro i'm working on (rx projector in cefiro 1 piece headlights):

well i was looking at the projector and the front of the glass is extremely thick. hence i believe it doesnt need to be inside anything...and the rear if i need i can make a small fiberglass cover to keep debree and water out.

imperefections to the lens will effect output, but that might not matter so much on foggies.

well i dont have glass since my fogs shattered but if i mount them into a custom housing what would you suggest when it comes to covering it? a clear piece of glass maybe? would plexi be an option? or would the projector run too hot for it and maybe burn the plexi?

i hear of projectors melting lenses very rarely. i would say plexi would be a good option as long as you can space the projector from it a decent distance.

If you are going to run HIDs in these projectors then the temp will be lower than that of a regular bulb. Standard HIDs run at lower temps than filament type bulbs. Ive seen retrofits that have used plexi with no problems with heat its just that the plexi just doesn't seem as clear as actual glass.
