Classic platforms are hard 2 find!
I've been looking for a few months now in search for a decent early 90s LS400 and I haven't found a clean one yet. Most of them have a bunch of tears and others with clean interiors have an unreasonable pricing that's way above blue book at some used car lots! I tried to check on some GS300s and 400s from 98 and they all have a $10K price tag and has 150K miles. These cars are my prime targets and I can't seem to find some clean ones here in Vegas for some reason...
But, I have checked out some face lifted G50s, they're damn cheap and looks good but, most of them have some sort of engine problem from a busted head gasket, compression problem, piston rings are cracked, new transmission needed, and clogged oil pump... They do have clean tear free interiors though and most have decent exteriors it's just that their owners didn't care about the engine. Are the engines easy to fix and, can I see some VIP'd G50s after facelift? Thanks!
I hope I find a platform soon... How long did it take you peeps to find the "diamond" from some shitty rocks?

SHit tell me about it!
I first started lookin for black 1st Gen GS, that took me about a month and over 10 dealers!!!!
Then I went on auto trader and found my diamond! About a day after I found it on Auto Trader I bought it! Alomost didn't get the car cause my girlfriend was scared to drive that part of the freeway which was crazy and weird! Now I wish I would have bought a G50 but have been keepin an eye out for one for a while! Started to have an itch for a 1 gen GS again!

that's the problem with old cars. not only do you want to upgrade everything but they also need attention with just maintenance.

tell me about it. i just picked up my 93 gs a couple weeks back after a couple months of searching. not the cleanest car but the seats were immaculate, which was the deciding factor in the purchase, plus it was silver which is a pretty hard color to find (i specifically wanted silver and didn't want tan interior). it needs a few interior bits to get it decent looking and i'm slowly gathering everything i need. the exterior paint and body overall is good but eventually i think i will repaint it so it looks better. i already have an aristo bumper & headlights, and new toyota oem japanese window visors but i won't add those on until the car looks better and is performing like it should.

We have a new neighbor with a 95 metallic white creme colored G50 with 143K miles that runs, has clean tan interior, and just a few chips on the front bumper and the rear tails have "webbed" due to desert heat. It hasn't moved since he parked it 3 months ago!
I talked to him yesterday about it and he said that he wouldn't be selling it soon because he would try to get it traded for a used G35 sedan but, he told me that he'll give me a holler if he decides to sell it to a private party. I sure wish the dealers low ball him with 800bucks so I could get it for $1000-$2500.
BTW: Can someone please give me links to pics of VIP "Gen 1.5" G50s? I can't seem to search for them. Thanks!

It's up for $6500 right now, I wonder if I can talk him down since it has 185K.

That car is sweet, but as Oscar say's and I agree a clean engine = a good running vehicle. Sux to have it all put together then the car gives out IMO.

i guess it depends on your overall plans. for a gs300 for instance you might have already been building up a monster 2JZGTE to swap in so in a case like that the engine really doesn't matter. but if you don't plan on doing anything engine-wise, i agree a clean good running motor is a must.

getting a couple of seats re wrapped in leather is cheaper and takes less time then replacing an engine

i focus more on the motor rather than seats cuz the motor is yhe heart of your car...if it does after you build your car...you are just gonna have a super dope...............paper weight.
