DJs: critique his skills *vid*

I know we have a lot of current djs and ex djs but I'd like to know what you all think of this guys performance. I love the song and overall, I think he did a great job but i think he ruined it with his keyboard  I love the song (Linkin Park - shadow of the day) but I think he ruined it. inputs?

Yeah teh keyboard is too much in the beginning but it blended nicely at the end of the mix down. That beep beep beep could have been left out though.

For doing that live, definately respectable but at time his scratching and vocals were off count.

I liked the keyboard, I'm more of a fan of that kind of electronic (thick raw synth?) than remixes anyways.

Not my style but he can mix pretty good. Skratching is non-technical but works with this type of environment.

You would not catch me bumping it in my ride... haha!

to do this kind of thing live is not the easiest task, missing one cue can throw everything off and ruin the effort, so i give him some props for pulling it off almost flawlessly. i can't say i even remotely like Linkin Park so ultimately i would never bother to listen to that again...but he did manage to polish a turd (so to speak). this kind of thing is getting a little common these days as djing and production are getting more entwined due to programs like Ableton Live. i do prefer a good mash-up to a live remix like this though, it gets the crowd more hyped up (i doubt anyone outside of that dj booth really knew what he was doing up there).

yep.. not bad.. hard to do live.. sequencing the keyboard on the fly, keeping vocals on beat, and everything else going on.

the remix itself is kinda low energy for the crowd, if his goal was partly to rock the floor. then again maybe that is the purpose of the set. could of had heavy sets before that one..

overall pretty skilled to do it live..

just my opinion..

Modern DJ'ing...it still trips me out. I guess it's a different type of skill. Not bad for a live performance, breaks were decent. His "psuedo" beat juggling wasn't too bad either (for those who don't know the cueing is harder than it looks and working it into a live set isn't cake, but bizarre with digital since you can do it with just one table). It's also refreshing to see a club DJ running battle style.

I've used that program he's using at my friends house, it was pretty easy to get used to. We used to run 3 tables at events. 2 for regular mixing and one for samples, hooks, etc. But now that's all done with other equipment. I think it would be tough to relearn it all..and I definately don't have the time..haha. I'd rather do other stuff now.

As someone who hasn't DJ'ed since 1991 I think it's amazing..... it definately is hard to get the cueing down let alone trying to sequence so many other variables on the fly LIVE! hahahahaha many props and it's crazy to see what the current situation is compared to the two 1200's and mixer we were armed with back in the day hahahahahaha

That piano killed it for me. Messed up the flow

He had it down pretty good with that electro house bass synth going with the kick drum, until the twiddle of the other synth. If he just left it without that cheesy twiddle and switched on the full beat, it would have been great. Then the other breakdown would have been good if he just scratched the echo until it got silent and turn on his beat again, without having to do another cheesy twiddle beat.

It is nice technically, done pretty well with the use of the midi controllers and ableton.

dope for being live. doing stuff on the fly w/ more than your basic setup can get complicated.
