Is this considering "wrong"?

Ok heated debated last night in the living room, moving it to here:

I'm picking up a Mac Blick aero kit from this guy in idaho in a couple weeks and i'm picking up coil overs too before I respray my car. Now heres where this gets touchy:

The Mac Blick kit looks mildly like the wald executive kit, now I want to keep the front bumper in decent shape and DEFIANTLY have it look good for shows, however, theres alot of road kill and other bumper killers in Minnesota and i'm worried about wrecking my lip in the first month I have it. Now there's this company who shall not be named, who makes a wald replica kit. Now i've already given Wald my money a few times and was very happy with their product. In fact, untill that dude with the black GS and wald kit posted pics that was what I had planned on doing with my GS.

I want to get a couple of the Wald style front lips to daily drive and then be able to swap them out with the Mac Blick kit for shows. I would just HATE to crack the Mac Blick going to the store and then wait 8 weeks to get the new part. I would much rather be like "OH SHIT RACCON *SMASH* oh well lets go grab another lips from the garage." instead of "!!!!!! my Mac Blick front lip is ruined! I didn't want Taco Bell that bad!"

Is this acceptable? What do you guys think?

i would say unacceptable for the simple fact that you would be supporting the knock off. a throw away lip isn't a bad idea though.

ARG I know thats my problem. I DO NOT want to support the knock offs but I honestly NEED a throw away lip. It's like... I could buy a knock off which is BAD but i'd be saving a very nice and rare piece from its demise. I mean who here even has a Blick kit? Sacrifice one knock to save the real deal?

OMFG, seriously? It's bad to run a knock off that you are just using as a "throw away"??? Holy crap, Ok.

"Good artists borrow, GREAT artists STEAL".

Guess who said that? PABLO PICASSO. You know, one of the greatest artists of all time.

Buy the damn cheap, disposable lip and don't worry. Running a fake lip is nothing like rocking a fake Rolex and trying to pass it off as real, it's just a lip, it's gonna get jacked up, and hit squirrels / raccoons / etc. Who cares if it's real?

I don't see a problem with that...I've had a few friends who wished they did the same thing...I personally wouldn't do it but I see where you're coming from...I understand you gotta pay to play but buying a replica for daily driving a rocking the name brand for shows sounds like a sound plan...90% of us would never know anyways...

I dont think its a bad idea. alot of my buddies have rotas they use in thier street machines but when they go to the track they whip out thier nice wheels. You are technically supporting the knockoff but at the same time your also supporting the real deal.

wow! i would have never thought there would have been so many on board with it.

think about this; what are you gonna say if someone on the streets asks you what kind of kit it is? are you going to lie and say its a wald, or tell the truth and advertise a knock off?

when i was tryin to decide on what kit i was going to get, some of the options would have got destroyed on the streets. my solution was buy an oem bumper for the streets and swap it out for shows.

you could always look for a cheap non-knock-off lip. the greddy lip doesn't look TOO bad, and it has the added bonus of being urethane so it wont crack.

i still say no.

man yall are retarded

if half od you DROVE as low as some of us, you woudlnt say that
in 4 days....4DAYS after my car was painted, i broke a sideskirt in half. Ive cracked my front lip slightly, and damn near ripped off the rear lip.

Knockoff is fine if your not claiming it is real, and admit its knockoff, especially for instances such as this.
If you drive low, break alot of shit, buy the knockoff for DD and keep the real stuff for shows.

and yes, i claim my stuff as YAJ stuff. it has a brand in it. but i cant read it

I had this argument on Zilvia too, about getting a Supermade knockoff for drifting, and highway trips.

It's true that it supports a knockoff company, but it's just so damn convenient to be able to smash a bumper to pieces a go "oh, at least I didn't pay $600 for it", when you know you're likely to smash it.

If someone asked me what it was, I'd say "it's a knockoff of so-and-so, the real one is at home"

Like when I bought those cheap black 17s... had no problem dissing them myself, because I knew what I had,

Buy a TTE lip. It's 300 bucks, and looks good for a daily driver lip. It'll be low enough that it wont look weird with wald/mac blick skirts, and it can take abuse as i think is polyurethane.

Also, your english is considering wrong. Just poking fun.

thats the bullshit lip i was talking about in my previous post. Just got it in a few days ago!. peoples view of what "low" is differs. the people who drive daily with their car's bumpers an inch or less of the ground with front lips/kit on coilovers or air are going to have a completely different take on this than people who dont!:slap: :thelaw:

Knock off or not..........as long as you ain't trying to "fake the funk" and say that "its real" then why not? In the end it is your ride and as long as you are happy.....that is all that matters. Don't worry about what others think "too much" their "opinions" are just that......"opinions".

With that being said, "Ideally" you want to get the "real deal" but you're the one having to pay the cash in the end.....not the ones with the "opinions". In your situation and with what you are planning....I say that you got a "win-win" plan. Not that my "opinion" should sway you one way or another.

I understand completely where your coming. One reason why I didn't purchase the full blown JP aero kit for my car b/c AT THE TIME there wasn't nothing readily available for kouki G50's. So why pay several thousands of dollars just hack up a kit to get it to fit. just buy the cheapy and work with that. But in your case it's a lil different so get the lip kit then switch it up for shows. Not everyone has money to throw away when they destroy a 1k bumper to go buy a new one the following week.

Word. If I could find a Wald knock off front lip that fit the Y33 Q's USDM bumper I would jump on it in a heartbeat. The JDM lip kits don't even fit USDM bumpers, you have to cut and extend them. Meanwhile, my genuine USDM Stillen lip ( :P ) is back in the shop being painted again and I hate the way the car looks w/o it!

man you guys are funny. y'all complain about the destruction of vip and then say its ok to buy a cheap knock-off. in this case its being justified by owning an authentic lip, but what about someone who doesn't plan on switching it out? is it ok for them to run a knock-off?

to me its the same as knock-off wheels, watches, shoes... whatever. you're buying a cheap replica of the real thing because of the resemblance.

No, because their reason is that they don't want to bother supporting the company that made it, they just want it cheap.

I dunno about the other guys, but when I say I'd rock fake S.made, I mean for races and trips to the beach, that's it.

regardless of principal the result is the same. but more importantly, everybody drives their car. everybody can crack a lip. so should everybody have a fake and only show queens should have authentic?

theres 2 ways to look look at it, but they are both the same. is it a show car that rocks a fake lip on the streets (90% of the time)? or is it a street car with a fake lip that occasionally throws on an authentic piece for shows?

its just my opinion and i don't hate anybody for feeling differently than me, but to me its plain and simple. no fakes! period.

well wearing a fake roley is 100% lame no matter what, all the time, no questions asked.

this throw away lip is at least entertainable so lets compare it to wheels. if you could get a replica (not a knock-off, an exact replica as far as appearance) work/weds/leon would you do it? i mean they're gonna get dirty, curbed, bent eventually anyway. or how about shoes? they look worse every time you wear them but do you buy fake nikes?

now if we weren't talkin vip i would say go for it. vip is pay to play, ball til you fall. might as well ride with your car raised up all the time so you don't rub/scrape/break anything. only drop it for shows. see what i'm sayin'?

it boils down to this: you are trying to present it as something its not. if you weren't then you would buy a cheap original design. the attraction to a fake wald lip is the "wald" not the "fake". so i'm sticking with no... final answer.

but your assesment is incorrect.
FRP is weak
steel isnt

Like i said
if you rock knockoff, and say it is. then im down
if you rock a knockoff and say its wald, tyen your gay

if your liek me, and dont care if you know i have a knockoff, or dont know the brand, then no biggie dealio

i go through too much aero to buy new shit everytime name brand to keep up with the joneses. if you think less of me, becuase a piece of fiberglass, doesnt haev a name inlaid into the matt doesnt make it any worse.

its hwen you say that it is something its not, i have a problem

so Yes, if you had soem fake weds, or fake leons, and you said they were real, then id be pissed.

knockoff aero is the least of my worries.
All you halfass guys that ride 4 inches off the ground with your air have nothing to worry about. or have kits that angle up in the front like pancakes sekxy kit does.
you dont have as much to worry about a people that run level kits all around. PLUS some of us use air for its REAL purpose

Drive low, park lower...remember that, i stole it from someones sig, and i swear by it

thats cool if thats how you feel, but i don't agree. the reason you keep having to buy s**t is because you keep breaking it. the solution: stop breaking shit.

and while we are on the subject, if you don't care about a name why would you buy a replica of a brand name? are you tellin me a wald gs kit is SO unique that you couldn't find something VERY similar that isn't a replica?

you must not be talking to me seeing as my car hasn't even had the air installed yet.

its your choice to run a bulky kit. theres always sacrifices. i you want to ride low with a tall kit you're gonna crack s**t. you made that choice, live with it. don't use it as an excuse to be cheap. or do... i don't care, i'm just giving my opinion.

I think Grant just likes breaking shit so he can say he's hardcore. But not so hardcore he pays for real stuff.

I'd do it differently, and so would others. It's not a big deal, it's his car.

Very very interesting thread. I've decided NOT to go the replica route cause my buddy showed me how to reinforce any kit I would buy. His R32 front bumper is so reinforced in the back he hit a dead raccoon so hard it blistered some of the reinforced backing but the whole thing stayed in tact. Now that I know about reinforcing I may even go with a better kit!

you can reinforce all you want, it will just crack at another area.

fiberglass is just very very sensitive.

it's just a fucking lip, people! who cares? You're not doing any disservice to VIP by rocking a throw-away IMO. It's just about not faking the funk, as was already mentioned.

BTW, I have had the "bullshit TTE lip" for years now and it is tough as nails... been ripped off like 5 or 6 times already and the only real damage is to the stock bumper and paint spidering like hell, lol.

a long time ago i ordered an r33 front bumper to be put on one of my cars. this was even before Non had it. the shop i had get it for me molded it and i was pissed. i think it produced all those s14 bolt on kits. i demanded full refund of everything. and went other ways with bumpers
