U.S. NAVY

Havent been around here for a while because i've been looking into joining the navy. School sucks right now and getting paid minimum wage is wack, I heard a lot of good and bad stuff about the navy and i wanna get some thoughts, comments, opinions from some of you active or retired guys here. I'm a single father and I know there's good benefits out there. what you guys think?

I served in the Cheer Force right after high school...best decision i ever made...never stayed in tent city...always went tdy to nice hotels and top pay for per diem...the training is more technical so if you decide to seperate, you have the white-color skills instead of being an infantry-man or some other job with artillary...you never have to cut the lawn (unless you're waiting for your TS/SCI security clearance and they need you to do something other than twiddle your thumbs)...

tech school sucks but when you get to your permanent duty station, you'll love it...and when/if you take your ASVAB, and you score high, don't be a MP...take advantage of your score...best advice i got...and it was from my mom...haha...

but yeah, TRUST ME, af is the way to go...did i mention they have the hottest chicks and best golf courses?...haha

Haha, some of these arguments are gay. I was active duty Navy C-SAR for 10 years. It was cool, but not all jobs in the Navy are that cool. So it all depends on what rating you'd have. As far as the Marine Corp? If you'd like to be a brainwashed killing machine...DO IT! If not, then steer clear. As far as the Air Force...sometimes I had wished I went Air Farce (haha) rather than the Navy, although they didn't have a real SAR program and that's what I wanted to do. So had I wanted anything else, I would have gone Air Force..they seem to have the best military life over all. If you want to stay out of harms way, I'd also recommend the Air Force.

And on the technical training ish..Grant..you're biased. You've never seen the Navy's NUC program obviously.

Does the Chair Force have a nuclear program??
Having a high ASVAB means you might be book smart.....but it doesn't mean you have common sense.....Look at all them dudes that high ASVAB's but they can't keep themself clean.....They would rather play magic or dungeon & dragons than take a shower or brush their teeth.
Those of you that haved served should know what im talkin about.

Anyways.....main thing is that you should study before you take the ASVAB. That will determine what kinda job you qualify for. Find out what you wanna do beforehand and don't settle for anything else....you'll be screwing yourself. Yeah but you can't go wrong with the
USAF(best bases, better quality of life) or USN(travel, good schools).
Avoid the rest unless you like baby wipe baths.......

IMHO, dawg, you got a beautiful family, nice car, and you want a better life for them? Just do whatever it takes to make a better life for your family as well as yourself. Rather it be the navy, the core, airforce, etc. just do whatever it takes LEGALLY :pat:

I dont understand how people are not able to make minimum wage, I have never made minimum wage and worked since age 16. And made more at certain jobs that were no experience needed than I do right no in my second year as a civil engineer.

im currently active duty navy as a corpsman..it really just depends on your rating though..although i have to agree that AF living seems a lot better from were im at..but it depends on what you want to do. I like the medical field and am working towards a nursing degree so i chose to become a corpsman. No matter which branch you go they will have something for you

I think I'm set for the navy. I just went to meps last week to take my ASVAB and scored an 80 and that's without any studying and i took a year break on school too. Just waiting until I dep in and get shipped out. I was thinking of going for (IT) Information Technology, I heard it's pretty chill and the schooling is good but I'm gonna have to be away from family and friends for 6 months somewhere in the east coast. I'm really looking forward to this because it's gonna keep me away from trouble and help me get back on top.
