Do I need to keep the front fender liner?
Ok guys.... need some guidance.
Im about to have my front fenders cut and pulled. IF I do that, is there a way to keep the front fender liner in there-- a way to attach it or glue it possibly?
Do I even really need it anymore?
Those who are running air, do you still have you front fender liner or did you pull it out?
Help from those who have done this mod would be greatly appreciated.

I pulled all mine out! It was hanging loose one day and it kinda burned up!
+ that was making the most rubbing noise! As well as the screws that hold it in!
So yea, I took mine out! But I would like to buy a new one because it does look a little tackey!
Antbo once told me to heat up a towl and mold it out of the way! Never got the chance to try that!

Pancakes,
What if I took a heat gun and molded the fender liner up in the well....... would it stay?
1) I want to know that it is safe to run without fender liners (aside from it being kinda tacky)?
2) If I can keep the fender liner, how do I keep it in without it hanging against the tire, as it will no longer be connected to the edge of the fender well.
My guess is to take a heat gun to it, but I want to know if anyone has ever tried this and what the outcome was?

+1 on Antbo's suggestion!!!! Fenderliner less looks like crap IMO....unlesss your wheel hides it well.
Although I believe you need to heat up the liner while it's still in, then use a damp towel to push it out...

no. you heat up the liner then use a damp towel to push up/mold the liner to the top of the fender to shape it like the fender
wait i know what he's askin. you just tuck the fender liner to the rolled tab and it should stay on there well. unless you rolled it completely flat. see if you can shove it in there really good

Perfect! That is just what I need to hear. I will do that this weekend before the car goes into the body shop next week.
Do I need to fiberglass the back of the fender for added support once I cut and pull the fender??
Mr. Executive described this process as getting the fender "radiused."
Is it imperative that the fender get fiberglassed on the back or is that an added precaution? It would seem that i would need to remove the fender liner before doing the fiberglass work..... if so, should I wait to heat mold the fender liner until after I get the body work done?
I know I'm asking alot of questions, but this really does help me greatly!

Antbo,
I'm actually planning to cut and then pull the fender, which means that there would no longer be any tabs for the liner to attach to.
So can I still mold the liner into the fender well without it coming loose?

so your pulling the fronts, you can mold it to the shape of the fender, but i dont know how your gonna get it to stay. but i think it should stay with the other screws thats left holding the liner
when i say molding the liner, you just need to do it in the areas you need it cleared. for instance tire rubbing on the liner. so you dont have to do the whole thing

I think if you arent tucking alot of tyre, then it can look tacky not to have the fender liner there. You can often see straight through to the front bumper...
I like the heating/remolding idea though. What do you use to heat it?
Btw, this is NOT radiusing fenders... thats cutting the entire fender arch higher, so you dont tuck rim when laying frame with big rims

Toss it... mine never last, they always get owned by how low I rock my shit..
The only reason they are actually there is to keep from sandblasting the inner side of the fenders/frame, to prevent road debris from collecting inside the crevasses of the fenders (aka, causing rust in a prolonged period of time) and for making really annoying rubbing sounds when you go low and wide.
+1 - toss that shit.

I removed the upper part and left the lower part so it doesn't look tacky looking in from the side.

what kind of car is this for? doesn't some of the lexus cars have the body harness or some other wire harness behind the drivers side front fender liner? I know the SC's and UCF30's have.

Guys you have been super helpful.
To answer some questions:
1) I'm running 20x8.5 +24 with a 5mm spacer up front and the rears are 20x10 +24.
2) The rears are already tucking, but I want to get the front tucked a little. As it sits now, there is no rake. The front coilover is lowered the same distance as the rear, and since the rear wheel arch is lower then the front, the rears tuck while the front doesn't.
3) This is a 98 GS400.
I've decided that I'm going to cut out the top of the fender liner and then mold whatever else I need to into the fender well. I'm going to keep the remaining fender liner in with some self-tapping screws and that should do the trick for the liner. Seems the best compromise of both worlds: I get to keep the part of the liner you will see, while the part that rubs will be removed.
Then its going to the body shop to have the front fenders cut then pulled out to clear the +19 offset that I'm running upfront.
I will probably end up cutting the rears all the way to the edge so I can use a 5mm spacer in the back as well to give the car an even look.
Would love to get some feedback from you guys on this plan.
Again thanks so much for the help!
Ben

I have mine taken out. Now it runs noisier with tires humming along.
If it doesn't rains round at your place, by all means take it out. It rains like daily round here and my headlamp starting to fogging up right now...
