Chicago Car Scene

What is it like?...I MIGHT be getting stationed back there (Navy) and was wondering what the norm is or what has changed/evolved.  I used to own a red AE86 Coupe back then but drive an 01 GS430 now.  I remember when everyone would go to streets of woodfield just to hang out and chill.  I was primarily concerened with the VIP-ish cars up there.  Id like to meet someone people whose doing the same thing I am.  I dont want to feel too alone :(

There is not much of a VIP scene around Chicago. I noticed mostly tuner , dub and high risers. Nice car, there is another member here on VSC with a similar GS. I think he goes by EL GATO.

I did buy Gato's :D....i wanted to buy a car that had the major things i needed...which was the wheels and the color.  its hard for me to focus on building cuz im in the navy so sometimes i cant constantly be there....so yeah and here are some more pictures

i see i see...well hopefully over the next few years there will be more.....i really do miss crusin along lake shore drive though /sigh ...

augdogg...which kit is that on your GS? is that the wald? or something similar? I actually want to get that kit..its very subtle and its just the look im after. its really nice i like it. and what kind of wheels are those?

Hey thanks bro and congrats on purchasing Gatos wheels! I love that car! My kit is the Admiration Createur (ft+rr lips and ss). The wheels are 19' AutoCourture Magnifques. Hopefully soon i'll be able to dump the rear another 1'.:shrug:

BTW what size tire are you runnin in the back?

it came with 235/35/19 before but i switched it up to 245/35/19 nankang NSII. I am much happier now...its more even with the front 
 
and dude thats sweet man i was thinking of gettign that kit before either admiration/wald/blick.  r u from chicago? cuz if som most likely i wont be getting that kit..hehe i dnt wna copy you lol...i might get wald or something its just as subtle i think.

lol...its funny cuz im stationed in georgia right now...and whenever im out at night people approach me with "hey is that candy apple red?" and after i say no they ask me if i have some "bad stuff" and im like uh......i dnt think so lol...but yeah i like the other kits too from JP or auto couture and the ones that are a lil bit more aggresive...but i jus dnt reli want to reveal too much i guess...i really like the JP kit but dont want it to be an all out JP car..

I'm south side Chicago. I have an xB. I'm ex-Navy myself and thanks to being stationed in Yokosuka Japan, I drive what I drive cuz of that. Clever little cars. I have seen a M35 dropped serious near my house. We had a LS400 that was sold off. Couple of Ody's trying to be built. But yeah, pretty ricey city. Busted bodykits and drooping PEPboy mufflers are the norm. We got  Touge Factory building a Y33 as I write this. Airrunner and audio is going in now.

oh wow...my friends S13 was built by touge factory.  its just collecting dust right now cuz hes in okinawa.  i asked TF to build my 86 a long time ago but they didnt want to do it cuz it was too old. dave sed he learned from working on Dorimons car(white levin coupe) thats awsome that they are building a Y33 though...is it going to be a shop car or a customers? nice looking xB btw.  What suspension and wheel combo do you have? and i have seen some nice cars in chicago..mostly a tuner ish society...but also notice a lot of them are stuck up and think they are too cool for you..lol..

I dont see to many people out here doing vip, I was into it for a while myself. here is my ex-car with airrunners that was gonna go tru a makeover, but its gone now. I do have a 98 LS4 that i plan on working on. I still go to streets of woodfield but on my bike. There isnt to much car meets lately.

there really isn't much of a scene but there is a few people. I kind of liked it that way. I sold my ls but still have a thing for all things VIP. I kind of want a k car now :p

Yea i was the one selling the runners. Im always down to meet up and check out that sick gs you got. Im started to part out the gs3 so i can get a black cherry 04 and up ls430. Ever since i saw Gato's car and saw the color in person i effin love black cherry

Thanks, I use FBI air kit and Work DH. The Y33 is Dave's car. They took a year off from anything major to regroup. Eric sold off his white S13 with the hood like Dorimon's. Kept the hood thank god. The term "hangin out" here means getting kicked out of every lot you find by the cops. I gave up on hanging out. Shoot, even HIN Nightshift has been moved out of Chicago. Figured that was a matter of time. Tough market here for anything including decent media coverage.

JDMJIM - nightshift has been moved? hmm...i jused to hang out on the parking lot right on top of nightshift and just chill in my 86 with my friends s13...does dave still have his 240 hatch? and yeah i wanted that hood for my 86 but never got around to searching for it...cant wait to see the car when its done man....
 
dbltakegs3 - hehe yeah i wanted a 430 in black cherry so i looked hard..and was sorta hesitant in getting gat's car..but since it wasnt really modified i opted for it.  and i have actually been trying to trade it in to get a black cherry ls430 also but i cant ever find them here in GA.

He does still have the 240.

Yes drae86toreno nightshift has been moved. I hear its to be at the rosemont horizon this year. And i can vouch for jims speaking of all the rice here in chicago. Its way to much here.

well, we've built our cars beyond them. so be proud of what you have. floss it big time. I do in a big way. had a kid in an Integra with bronze OEM rims(wtf?) take a cell phone vid down both sides of my car on the highway yesterday. then took off. cool for me....he's a dreamer and I'm inspiration

hehe well...im selling my GS cuz i miss being in an 86...so if you guys know anyone there...thats interested...i had pictures of my car here somewhere...oh and i might be visiting chicago in june...staying for about 2 weeks...anything goin on there at that time?

Just keep the GS and get an 86 you might as well have a nice cruiser and a toy...
