Its not VIP but i need to vent

Well to give a short bio of my life starting from highschool...i didnt really go through highschool with teachers...i taught myself through books they supplied at a all boys school for kids who fuck up(long story)...and now that im in college its showing and i cant seem to get past it.
 
Im on my second time around basic algebra(like before math 13). and i cant seem to grasp the problems...i struggle night after night just to get a passing grade...but now i cant do it anymore and it does not make any sense to me again. look its 1:03 in the morning i have a test on 3 chapters tomorrow and i dont understand half the shit thats on the fuckin test...What the hell is the point of solving a fuckin problem if it has no REAL answer in the first place? more than 90% of this damn math i wont be using anyways in my normal life i have tried tutors and switching teachers..had people help me..i will get all the material up until the test day.and then i bomb it.
 
im ignorant i kno. Im not a normal kid(now 20) who picks shit up easy. It irritates and i put myself down drastically because i cant seem to grasp the facts of algebra...anything else in college is not hard...well not as bad as math. this will be my 2nd time failing. i just really feel stupid for not knowing this shit. I just cant handle struggling day and night trying to understand material that constantly changes and has no real answer or meaning to the reasoning behind it. And i kno people look down on me like "ok you cant do basic algebra?" NO i cant. When it comes to business plans? yes i can do that. When it comes to solving real life issues that have an answer to them. yes i can do that. When X+Y-2+C=Z=7......no i cant do it.....i feel like honestly dropping out of college because i kno if you cant pass math you wont get ANY degree.

everyone is different.

i finish pre calculus in high school and went up to calculus 232 by junior year in college. but i never graduate from college because of other subjects that i am weak on. just like your case with the math.

I was gonna say if your major doesn't need it, don't take it, but algebra is kind of a basic thing you need to get into other classes...what are you majoring in?

this may sound stupid and all but, there computer programs that will "tutor" you in the subject of math. I had to help my 2nd ex-wife with her math work when she went to college, she was really bad too, but she was essentially limited to Multiplication-Division-Addition-Subtraction... after the computer tutor she was able to do basic algebra... enough to pass the classes. You can even start off with Pre-Algebra and work your way up...... do those for now while working on the rest of the classes in your currculum and then tackle math when you are confident in the formulas and their operation.

Theres ways around everything.  Make really good friends with the ugly/fat girl in the class.  Tell her her hair smells good or something.  From there, keep the compliments rolling (atleast once a day).  When test day comes, sit near her and she will help you out ;)

don't feel bad. Algebra is not a joke for the masses. I just barely skated through algebra in my freshman year in college. I still didn't have a firm grasp of it even up to the end of my sophomore year, but over the course of taking other classes (Chemistry and Kinematics as well as Calculus and Electrophysics) I eventually learned by osmosis the principles of algebra through my fellow classmates...

You ask me about a non-linear quadratic equation or a piece wise function now though, and i'll still look at you funny..."Hold up let me get my notes" lol.

Yeah dude stick with it. It's a beezy, but you can get through it if you really work at it. It sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do to make that money. Is algebra the only class you'll need to take?

And you'll be surprised how many problems algebra solves that doesn't involve math...it's all about building blocks of life, and it's confusing as hell sometimes.

stick with it, but you may need a break from it.  if you fail again take siks advice and try working it out on your own before you take the class again.  but do the computer program, dont just say "i'll do it later"

once you get the concept down, the numbers are all pretty easy.  most just dont understand the concepts and why, you kind of just have to do it without asking irrelevant questions like "will i ever use this?".  just concentrate on figuring it out.  put it into real life scenarios.

Going to tutoring everyday helped me out a lot. While being there I made friends with other students who were in the same position as me and then we started studying together, thats how I got through it, sucks but its worth it!

I was the guy that breezed through everything... Just a brief explanation and I was on my way. I went to a school called Hufford I.E. (Individual Education) in Junior High. Was supposed to be for kids who could work on their own. We could skip class, go outside to play football. choose when we wanted lunch. It was great! College Freedom in Junior High. When Pre-Algebra came up in 7th Grade, I decided not to take it and save it for Highschool. Took study hall instead..... 9th Grade came around and I chose to take Basic Math. 10th Grade came and I failed Pre-Algebra. I also failed it 11th with a fear of not graduating 12th (had to have 2yrs of math to Graduate).

I used to "like" taking math in high school. I mean I didn't mind taking it. Senior year, I didn't need my math class to graduate so I slept everyday in calculus, and took an F for 3 semesters, last semester I was a teachers aid... lol  Took one semester of math 50 in college to get my autobody degree and that was it with math.... almost 5 years later, when my gf asks for help on her math I feel hella tarded... but there's some things I can still remember and help her out on...   Just stick with it, if u feel like your not gonna get a good grade, ask for a "no grade" so it won't lower your gpa. Or hit up your math lab. Or even take it again, second time around till be easier cuz you'll have some what of an understanding...   Im gonna be going back to school for, I don't know what yet. Just gonna start off easy so my brain don't take a beating. Stick with it...

But even for that easy math problem above .. it uses normal skills ... for example .. Its uses 3, 4, X and short, shorter, shortest concept ...  its gotta be a bigger number in order ..

im asian. i USED to be good at math. took freakin geometry twice in high school. have yet to take a math class in college. again. know some people, and it will get you a long way. it just so happens that if its a cute girl. its a plus.

I hated algebra too. good thing my major didn't need it. lol.

i am pretty good at everything but im more of an english brain than math brain so i struggled with it too. i did just mid-level maths in high school and in my TEE (exams for getting in to university) and really only just got through (i think around 56%ish) so that was the subject i chose not to count towards my aggregate score for uni!
 
then in 1st year uni there were compulsory maths units in the 1st two semesters, first one i got about 50-odd% but the 2nd one i think i got like 38% in the end! so i had to repeat it the next semester, and got 53%!! haha But that was enough to pass. but i really didnt feel that i had any more understanding than the 1st time, i guess i just picked up like 30% of the stuff the first time and about the same the next time so between the two back-to-back semesters i was able to get through it.
 
it meant though that all my friends finished after 3years and i still had to go back for another semester 1/2 a year to do 1 more unit to make up the points since the other was a repeat. so then i graduated a loner with no mates to hang with! hahah
 
but i do feel your pain man, sometims it just doesnt click and you have to rope learn the stuff. 
 
btw, with that traingle thing, i looked at it and did 1/2 base times Height and got x=6? lol so im probably still failing cause people say it's 5.

Algebra really is not that hard as long as you get the basic concept.  One trick I like to do is to think of it as a story line, how one dot connects to the other till it arrives to the final destination.

I know this won't help you much, the last time I took anything remotely close to an algebraic question was almost 10 years ago.  And no, there really is not any real life use for it unless you are a scientist....

ive talked to many sucessful people in life, some of which were aeronautical engineers...and they all told me the same thing "just cheat through college"

and ill be blunt and honest...

if your stupid, then you're stupid. accept it, but im sure you have skills to make up for it, so build on that.


my friend is dumb as fuck, and hes asian. but hes a hella good fighter and hes sponsored and such. im sure hell make good money off his skills.
