Stop the copy...

There has been some dope builds on here but I have been noticing that some people are biting others style. Sh!t, There are more then one style of wheels to put of a f ing GS. Please god dont let this turn into what the JDM Honda scene was... Everyone does the slips, then the gabs, then the equip 03s.... ect. 
 
Dont be scared to try a different set up then others! :signdammit:

thats why i bought a 1st gen GS300.=)not too much around modded VIP style.

EVerything has been done or "copied" in VIP already! That's why they keep doing all these crazy funky things in JAPAN!
 
Our biggest problem is we need to stop chasing or trying to copy what they do in JAPAN! That's a whole different world and level! You can't compare or compte w/ them! There always pushing the level and always gonna be there first when comes to shit!

2years ago there was a LS430 that looks EXACTLY like Racinstylez ride! Same color and everything, wheels the only thing different!
 
There's a Y33 same color as mine! Looks almost like mine except for kit and rims! 
 
And let's not talk about black GSs cause that's been done too many times!

this is the main reason why i'd rather do things my way but still acknowledging tradition.... i mean really how many platform silver, black, or white with the same wheels, kits, and accessories can you have before it feels like we're all lemmings? Not everyone is blessed with the creativity that others have.  Some may have it but are scared of failure so they just go with what has been done already.

EVery body in Japan has the wheels that I want & the kit I have! WHO cares they're in Japn not in SD where I live! and as far as this forum! Who really cares!!!

If I like the look, I go for it. I don't settle for something I don't like as much or get something that other people like just to please them. What's the fun in that?

Chances are, there won't be anyone around that has the same stuff as you, and if they do, and you are a true baller, and hate the fact that that person has the same wheels as you or the same kit or the same damned fusa for god's sake, GO BUY SOMETHING ELSE.

Just to put things in perspective, I'll just say that this scene, although growing, is pretty small. As far as copying goes, we are kinda limited to a degree cuz of how difficult it is to get certain parts (kits/wheels/accsessories/girlfriends/etc.). With the right amount of money and patience however, you should be able to get what your looking for. Other then this site, even living in San Diego County, I never see another Vip (I mean Exe.)ride, unless it's a meet, and i'm all over the place. These are not excuses, just the facts! It's hard for me to understand what your saying about copying, but this is what I took from it. Wheather someone else has your wheels/kit/car color/car/girlfriend, doesn't matter at all (well girlfriend, kinda sad but kinda funny). It's okay that you asked because IMO this scene needs to be put in perspective, so questions in this regard don't arise......

there is nothing stopping someone over here from being just as innovative as someone in japan. the problem is theres so many followers preaching and scaring people off. i haven't even been here that long and i've seen more than a couple things go from "whack" to "that new s**t". its like something has to be done overseas first to be cool to a lot of people. meanwhile, while we've got a magnifying glass on japan they're lookin elsewhere for new ideas. thats why we get all the second hand trends.

I built my GS exactly like another car.  It's pretty obvious and I have no shame about it.  Hell, I built 2 cars as exact replicas of JP Demo cars.  In fact, they were used at JP Demo cars for some time :)  Do I regret it?  nope.  I love my GS and miss my LS terribly.  I wouldn't of changed how I fixed them up at all.  

I think the main thing is, just as long as people perform mods that THEY THEMSELVES LIKE, it don't matter.  What I can't stand is people who perform mods just to be accepted and not do it out of the love of modding the car for themselves

I guess I can take a quick cue from the company I work for and use our old slogan?  "Think Different"? haha that was cheesy.. sorry

Honestly there's alot of love on this site but there's just as much hate and that's the reason someone would copy anothers car so he does'nt get flamed/fit in...you have self proclaimed "VIP GODS" that flame every chance they get,they act like they started the VIP scene themselves...we all copy like it or not if you don't have a 1off piece on your car then someone else has got it(sorry to break the news to you) the scene is growing faster then ever & the media is becoming more aware so copying is gonna happen just get over it & like so many before me said just do you.

hey i like my car, and it almost looks like johns, roberts, and 1 more black JP GS (was in arkan).  and thats in cali alone.  but i bought my car for a specific reason, and my GS hits it perfect.  even the scaras, which i know VIP people hate, but regular people are amazed by the wheel for some reason.  i kind of want to change it up a little, but i'll probably just build another car and keep this one how i got it.

My point is it's already been done over there! If you think it hasn't than your wrong and I can find examples to prove it! The scene has been around over there too long and there's jus too many of them! I agree that someone over here could grab there balls and try new shit but IMO it won't be anything new to what has been done in JP jus in the US. But who really cares! IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS!!!!!

damn, someone had the same car as me 2 years ago?  I wanna c this...   Anywayz, I agree with pancakes.  The VIP scene in Japan is like the lowrider scene here in the US.  EVERYTHING and ANYTHING has been done to these cars before.  To come out hard with something new in thier scene would take lots of cash and a super creative mind.   Im not saying that anyone on here could make a car to the level, its just that its REALLY hard to do.  Look at me! I thought I was the one that was comin up with something really creative and one off.  But pancakes just said there was a car exactly like mine, it really doesnt surprise me too much though. :shrug:

The reason peoples' rides start looking the same is because people think there's only one way to do things.

You can't even put boobs on doors and put tweeters in the nipples anymore. I thought I was going to be original, but then some dude in Japan did it...oh well....since it's not cool to copy, I guess I'll have to do something else.
 
Maybe if people at least give props to who they were inspired by to spend the money to copy that specific car, then people like Skaper would be a little less anal about stuff like this.
 
Yes the honda owners did a huge trend with wheels...kind of like AME wheels here...but that was because they had at least 2 knockoffs both costing a total of about $500 WITH TIRES. 
 
Yes AME wheels are on the cheaper side of wheels for this scene, and yes people all get that same flat faced 6 spoke wheel like Oscar has, maybe that's because that's just what they see. They don't see the other AME wheels that are around. They probably also don't search to find a 'perfect' wheel, or are scared to order something in a size/offset that hasn't been discussed before. 
 
People come out and go 'oh yeah this the ame lx 19x9.5 +20 and it fits perfect, look' and then peopel go out and buy the same thing because it fits. 
 
Other people go out, look for wheels, wonder what offset will look good, people get flamed for asking how low of an offset they can go with a specific car/brand wheel etc. just because they didn't search for it...
 
maybe if you need to get people to stop copying, start helping them out.
 
Why don't you start researching, and start an wheel size/offset thread, or a kit library, so people can just search that specific thread, and find something they like, and buy it. 
 
OR would that be too easy for many people to start buying the same kits, because it's what they see on this website. 
 
You gotta think, not everybody can go out and measure wheel clearance, and decide what needs to be done with the fenders to get it to fit perfect.
 
Look at club Lexus for example. MANY people think that a 9.5 +30 will be too low of an offset to daily drive. Why? because people are afraid to push their limits and figure it out on their own. SO they buy some super sunken wheels, and call it a day.
 
They also (in the GS club over there) tend to buy a TTE lip, because it's cheap (~300 new) and looks good. Too bad EVERYONE and their mother has it.  
 
Same with the wald/anceltion/whatever else lip kits that come out for the GS...all look the same really, and nothing different. WHat can you say though? MANY kits look VERY similar, yet made by different companies. Maybe Those companies need to stop copying each other? 
 
Bottom line, the only way to make sure no one can copy you, is to build your own stuff.

my point is somebody is doing something new all the time. being in japan doesn't entitle you to be that guy. the reason the us is behind is because of exactly what you said; "I look through VIP mags DAILY to see what they're doing and to look for the next idea for my ride!" your goal is to be on the level of japan, while the cats who own those cars goal is to keep pushing the envelope and stay in those mags.
 
i'm definitely not on the "don't bite" side but i'm not on the "all hail japan" side either. i want everybody to enjoy building their s**t and love it when its done. but you're right its not that serious.

Another thing is, it shouldn't matter where your inspiration came from, as long as it means something to you.

I thought of this because I saw the mags I bought the other day... no Vip mags.. not even imports. A pre-'68 kustom car mag, and Performance VW. I was flipping through the old school kustom mag when I found an awesome idea for paint on my car... and nobody else will have it, because it was an idea I had be being inspired, not by looking for inspiration.

I bet once it's done and people are done hating, they'll start doing it too. ;)

It does matter where your inspiration comes from. 
 
I stopped posting my cars over at CL because I found it annoying to have someone ask me about my car via PM or websites and then post up on the board like they came up with this grand idea. :pat:

sup fellahs, read everybody's replies thus far and yeah, i kept quiet when i saw the silver Mode Parfume Y33 on AME WXs... coz i commend that guy's build and i think the kit looks super dope on silver. to say that there should be only 1 kit or 1 set of rims and 1 of whatever else is just lame. i have customers come in all the time and say "oh, but so-and-so got that kit already" or "oh i saw an LS with those rims" which i don't get. who the fuck gives a rat's ass what someone else is doing? floss parts that make YOU happy, not what ppl think or want you to run!!!!
 
credit should be given where credit's due, and personally, if i see 2 or 3 other Y33s on MP kits in hawaii then i'd be like, dude that's cool, we all go make friends, drink beer and go make a MP car club!!!! LOL!!!!
 
finally, IMHO, ppl should build they rydes for themselves, it ain't about getting kudos or forum-approval for your kit or rims or risk getting bashed on for wheel brand, fitment or stance. nothing is "everything". i dunno where this scene evolved into "unless you run ____________, in this offset, in this style, in this color, in this stance, with this kit, otherwise your car is not vip." clowns who talk that way just lose respect from me and deserve to be bitch-slapped. i think what ur thinking about arguing with one another is really everyone supporting the fact that we all do what we want regardless of who does what...its just the response to the OP who hasnt been back in here to defend his statement.

Its not that serious.  Get what you want.  If its available to the public then that means anyone with $ can get it.  If someone gets the same wheels in my neighborhood, I wouldnt really care unless they have the same car, same  exterior paint color, same wheel finish, and the same wheel specs.
 
Theres nothing you can do about it, if someone wants to copy, they will do it.  You can make it more difficult by doing body work, changing the color of your car to a custom color, etc

it will always happen when scenes get more popular... 
its just the way it is.

I also have alot of respect for guys who take non vip platforms and do them up with their own style.  Alot of the A32 guys in Malaysia are doing it big with something everyone here frowns upon... blackonblack's got the right idea with his A32.

can you really blame the way the scene becomes when you HAVE to have this car, with THIS offset, THIS kit, THESE wheels... if people listen to all the suggestions they get here a VIP meet will be like an Infiniti or Lexus dealership with rows and rows of same looking black/white cars

when the scene gets too repetitive then just move on to something else, and start over, otherwise just enjoy YOUR car and dont worry about anyone else

and Oscar... my car is... same color... too annnnd I roll down to SD all the time muwahaha

I know that our selection of products are limited but we can still switch up are wheel/kit/color combo to be a little different.

when people try to criticize anything bout my car..  it really doesn't bother me too much.. i got pride in it, i put it built it myself, & it's my own styling/ideas.. "i just tell em. i mod to my liking, not yours.. " 

 next thing you know.. they got it on their car.. or are trying to get it.. weak! but there's only so many options out there.. it's hard to not duplicate another ride.. specially a GS.. thus, i'm thankful for my custom kit! =)

theres no way to gaurtentee that somebody won't be diggin your style and copy it, but if you do something truly unique the chances will go down i would think. bolting on some wheels or buying a body kit does not qualify.
 
but should it happen anyway just remember, "imitation is the highest form of flattery" (or something like that),

at the end of the day! No matter how my car looks or who I may or may have not copied! It will always be the best in my eyes! Because only I and my close family and friends know the sacrafices I went through and the things I did to get my car where it is today! 
 
I don't have all the money in the world and I am not in anyway close to being baller status! 
If money wasn't a issue my car would easily be rockin some 11/12 or some shit, widebody, w/ TVs, car layin flat and rollin some kandy paint or some crazy color but sense money is an issue, this is all I could build for now!

Well I can tall you the front bumper i am building has not been done before.  Should be all done by the end of June at the latest.

We should get some socal peeps to roll up to a norcal show and take it over VIP styles.
