Rolled Fenders = Dimples

So I got my fenders rolled today on my 2GS by a local shop here in SoCal. I won't say which one publicly because they are good guys and it's not a huge chain. Anyways, I have two dimples per rear fender and two dimples on the passenger front fender. Is there anyway a body shop can just "pop" them out? Or any other way to fix them without repainting? Any shops in the South Bay of SoCal that some one can recommend.

You can probably try going to a paintless dent removal place. There is a reason why this happens because they shouldnt roll parts of the fender that has holes in it....Alot of people think this is like a Honda or a 240...The ideal is the same but those cars dont come with a fender cover that makes holes for the tab to go in....When you roll fenders you should cut it till it is all the same from front to back then roll...Or they can use metal shaping tools and hammer that part in. But try one of those places that do paintless dent removal.

Yah we have that one at the shop but remember if you have those holes make sure u either trim it till ur working with a flat surface from front to back of the fender so that it wont leave dimples.

They rolled them with the liner tabs still on? :pat: You can get away with it if you arent rolling them 'flat' and just do it REALLY slow...but its ALWAYS a good idea to trim before rolling.

The 'tabs' will still have to be cut out for them to push the dent out. The fender lip is too hard to adhesive pull (Another paintless dent method) it. Nothing major but You're lookin at a lil bodywork.
My old SL500 had a bead that showed up on the outside of the fender when it got rolled:smiley-rofl: so I know how upset u are =)

LMAO. I've provided a step by step (crude as it may be) to this procedure for Lexus's.

Do a search for some of my threads and you'll see it. Actually, you're too late...but hope this helps people in the future.

Chris

edit: BTW there is no hope in repairing it man. Sorry..deal with it. I know I am.

What is the point of rolling a fender if you're not planning to flatten it out?

Actually its pretty easy if they know what they are doing. My guy at the shop does them by drilling a hole under the rear quarter panel in the metal fender liner so you dont see the hole then smooths out the outer part of the quarter panel. On the lexus there is 2 layers which is the outer layer which you mostly see and then you have the under panel that is made of metal also which acts like a rear fender liner. We dont offer this service anymore because it cost more then just taking it to paint hahaha!

u dont always need to roll them all the way flat.

You roll fenders to accommodate rims that (for the most part) dont fit. If it requires u to roll them slightly...cool. In this VIP scene, its typical for people to roll flat to fit super wide rims.:runcoold:

sum people roll until it pulls the fenders and quarter panels....all depends on your needs.

Not all are the same

I ask this then, why would u pull as oppose to rolling flat? Maybe it's just been my experience that rolling flat then pulling is the general M.O. (modus operandi or whatever).

I think it's more difficult to pull when the fender is not completely flat...either that or it just doesn't make sense.

Adhesive pull is when they use a glue gun to put a bit of adhesive in the dent to pull it out. Like an oldschool dent puller...without having to weld the lil studs or put a screw thru a dent to pull it out.

Using a stud welder/dent puller to pull a dent will require lots of bodywork: Grind weld down, body filler, primer, seal and paint....

Using an old school dent puller, u end up having to back fill (weld) the hole....Grind weld down, body filler, primer, seal and paint....

It kind gets expensive if you dont do the work urself.

As I mentioned, easiest way is to cut the the mounting holes/tabs out and try to push the dent out using PDR tools.

People should always look before they roll. Its a waste of time and money to repair a mistake that shouldnt have been made.

uh, you cant pull a fender that isnt flat.

The method of 'pulling' a fender is the same as 'rolling' it.

Roll fender until flat....keep rolling and it will pull. Just make sure u do it very slow or it'll get 'lumpy'

I thought u were unclear as to what was involved ith pulling a fender. Its not more difficult to pull an unflattened fender...its pratically impossible.

If anyone is unclear: rolling and pulling is the exact same thing. Pulling is just excessive rolling beyond flat...its like magic!

Actually, it isn't. You can't use a fender roller to pull every car. And to do every kind of pull. My car is a testament to that. There are many ways to skin a cat when it comes to bodywork.

Personally, in the front, I'm letting my tires do the work. The tabs bent when the tire hits, jam done. =)
In the rear was a newspaper pull. That shit is awesome.

yeah, ive rolled with a baseball bat....even a handle from a harbour freight floor jack was used on my old 240...I agree, you can do anything multiple ways. Been doing bodywork before I owned my first car and no two cars are ever the same....but 99% of the time, the same techniq will always apply.

You can always find that one example of why sumthing 'conventional' didnt work....but its the odd man out when looking at the bigger picture.

The roll/pull on my sc3 and sc4 were with a roller and they are PERFECT  My GS4 got a slight roll but didnt get them flattened because the rims I want arent that aggressive....jus a lil bigger than normal. The GS3 is getting pulled this weekend....with a roller.

I heart fender rollers!!
