Very nice!

I love people making a big deal about driving that low on coils. I drive at that height if not a little lower daily on air and rarely lift my car up unless its to make noise or clear something really tall.

That first gen GS is a thing of beauty!

yeah maybe not to big a deal, but It's a big deal to me because I couldn't and didn't dare drive my former y33 that close to tsuraichi.

to be able to see it like that 24/7 and drive it like that has always been something I would like to achieve....but I can't due to my driveway and my current driving needs. I'd like to do another y33 some day as a 2nd car-show car one day.

to be that close to the lip IMO is just so visual jaw dropping! and that goes for any car that DD's that close to kissing the lip.

I know its something i love looking at in my side mirrors everyday, I have done it with coils, I have done it with air. I am sure i will do it with coils again. Hard corners I get some yummy rub up front with how low i drive the Q, but i have been listening to my cars rub since age 17. I always fee like I am driving a rental car when i buy a new car and haven't lowered it yet.

At my daily height my plastic belly pan sits on the ground, It will be coming off when I get a minute, but I dont believe in having air to drive high, I believe in having air to park even lower than you drive.

Even my all up only allows 3 inches of ground clearance.

No. That's the easy way out.

The correct way? You deal with it.

Most of us here that are 'low' are either on air, or just not nearly as low as some of those guys in Japan....Like the orange car that Dom was telling us about in Japan, that drove 1/4" off the ground, that scrapes his car on slight dips in the road, that doesn't go over driveways or speed bumps, that said "air? this car was built to be driven this low on coils"

Or the Red Y33 that had some ridiculous spring rates of 32k or something like that....and I thought 14k was harsh....who's car achieved Tsuraichi, and was driven like that, whose fender was just barely missed by the rim by 1mm it looked like...

I guess these guys have a passion to dedication. I guess only those dedicated enough will stick with coilovers. Even Grant, almighty low guy on the forums, has gone to a hybrid air setup, even though it's just so he can ride as low as possible and raise up when he needs to.

I don't know. Too much money and time invested for some to ride like that. It's crazy really...I don't know if I'll stick to my game plan of not going air and sticking with my Flex.

I respect both sides of the spectrum, both conservative and extreme daily driver lowriders. Having once owned both a coilover and bagged set up, I know how it is.

I am now aiming towards a more conservative set up but with a different, unique approach. this time in the conservative realm of things, trying to contribute to the scene in different unique ways.

caoboy, have you had any first hand experience with super low set ups with coilover or bags ?

Yeah, for a while I was driving with my car at first so low that I was banging the UCA's on every bump/driveway/watever would make the car lift, until one day I was driving to work, some truck slammed on his brakes, I did the same, I hit a bump, and the car lifted off the ground enough to start skidding. The ABS took over and luckily no harm was done.

It was stiff due to the springs being drooped, and also caused the bouncing really bad, which in turn led to my car not touching the ground while hitting bumps.

I've since fixed it after that, but need to re-lower the car, as when I reset the preload, it lifted the car about 2 inches. My plan is to drive as low as possible, and i've got an OCD like problem with the fact that my car is not scraping anywhere anymore, after I reset the springs to 0 preload.

My thing is, if I'm not scraping, or worried about scraping, I'm not low enough. I don't want to be able to get out of my driveway without a fight. Why? Because the car looks so crazy when it's slammed, the looks I get from people, driving around in the city with the car as low as it is, and the compliments I get about it. I also get asked how much it cost me to make it so low, and also WHY I would do such a thing.

What do I tell them? 'Look at the car. Do you like the way it looks?' The answer I get is, 'yes, it looks great, but how do you drive like that.' I say ' You learn how. You learn what roads to take, where the dips are, and what driveways you can and can't get into'....then I proceed to name off a few places, streets, intersections, and they look kind of dumbfounded that I've mapped out what routes I can and can't take.

I'll set it back town to JUST clearing the UCA for now. Waiting on users like VolkGT7 to cut the holes in his shock tower and post it up for us to see the results, and if it's effective enough to do, or if I should just leave it as low as I can get, and call it a day for now. Wheels are on the way also, so I gotta make room for them. But then again, I prefer to stick with stock diameter tires, so I guess once it's set on the stocks, it'll be set on the new ones, with just having to pull my fenders.

I'm also on Tein Flex. No chance I can use any bags on it. I was thinking of maybe being able to get a cup kit, but they are WAY to expensive for some teeny bags that will raise the car 2-3 inches.

Whatever you say bud, whatever you say. I just like the fact that I'm as low as some on full down, and drive higher than me.

Oh, and I may get stuck in some driveways, but at least I won't get stuck on the road with air leaks/blown bags! :smiley-rofl:

It's all good, don't want to turn this into a coilover/air war again. We all have our own opinions and feelings about what we should drive.

As for me, I like rollin' classy therefore, going with the air route.

Not tryna spark a war here either. =)

WOW! Caoboy it's like you replaced Qclass as being the problem around here!
Who gives a Fuck who drives lower! My car may not be antwhere near as low as some "say they drive" but my shit still looks 10X better than most also blown bags you say???
I pretty sure your dumb ass is gonna fuck up some shit on your car before we blow a bag!

All in all who really cares who drives lower, it don't prove shit! Cause at the end of the day you shit could be riding frame but will still look like shit!

I respect folks w/ coils and folks w/ air! Jus IMO it's common sense to be able to ride as low as you want and have the luxury to adjust your height when you want, instead of having to lift the car up and do all that ish!

but hey like the homie kev said thanks for labling me a cheater!

Whoa whoa homie, if you take offense to what I said, then my bad. I didn't mean it to be such harsh feelings towards your air system. Sorry dude, if it's that big a deal I'll delete my posts. And in no way am I trying to be like that guy Jimmy or whatever his name is. I meant no disrespect like that. Some take pride in riding as low as possible. Look at the dudes in this thread, all on coilovers, driving pretty damned low in a brand new LS460, on coilovers, it takes balls to do that, you gotta admit that much. He could have gone air just as easily, but there was something that clicked and said 'hey, let's design some coilovers for the car, rather than go air'.

Like I said, it's all a matter of opinion, well have our own, and no need to spark a war over this.

I see why you guys are mad..I really worded it bad. What I mean is that there are some who'd rather coilovers than air, and there are their personal reasons for it. I feel there's something about being low on coils, rather than low on air. I didn't like the ride that I had in my stock suspension, and don't like how air can be really floaty. Hence why I chose my coilovers. It also is kind of a ego thing, when people ask if you are on air and you tell them it's coilovers, and they get all slackjawed. Don't take offense to what I said, it's all good, we all take pride in building our cars.

From what I've heard. that company is a multi million dollar company, so to be able to take a new 460 and hack it up is nuthin! You can do anything w/ the right amount of money!
Platnium guys even though I've yet to meet get props for being apart of this VIP trend and trying sumthin new and of course reppin CALI!

I agree majority of people on here have this pride of tryna be the lowest car! But IMO all you get is a pat on the back and a good job! As said b4 my car is probably no where near what majority may like on this forum but I LOVE MY RIDE HIGHT and LOVE my dropped height! And that's all that matters!

SQUASHED!

*Sorry for the Qclass comment but in your last couple post that's how you came across to me!

That's what I'm wondering. I don't see Kennedy anywhere and those don't look like his friends or anything.

There's nothing cool about breaking your shit and having to fix it or buy new stuff. Having air lets you ride low and at the same time protect your investments. VIP style is expensive enough.

At the end of the day, its just the internet. Someone could take pics of their car slammed and even make a short video . . . means nothing. (Not directed towards the cars featured in the magazine or anyone in mind)

Props to those that take pride in driving low and props to those who admit to not doing it 24/7. Cant hate someone who keeps it 100.

Back to the topic

Is this magazine distributed across the US? I would like to get a copy.

Anyone here notice that vip evoloved so much that if you were to put these styling cues on a platform car, it would be vip

A GTI is a unibody car too.... I dragged my frame rails over many-a speed bump. If there was a crown in the lane my lower engine mount dragged down the road.

Then I growed up. :) haha

People should build a car for the single purpose of putting a smile on THEIR OWN face when they walk out and get in it every day. Only then will the internet not be full of ethugs wanting try and show someone else up online. There are people that hate my car there are those that love it, I dont give 3 cents worth of my time caring. I smile most every morning I get in my car and drive to work. Thats all that matters.

Oh and i w ould also like to pick a copy of this mag up. Might have to see if the B&N is stocking them.

Take care guys!

.. Nevermind.

Just read the entire thread.

But I do love my Flex's.

When I do finally do a platform it'll either be a y33, y34, or f50.

Most likely it'll be a y34.

I'll probably go Vlene/bold world coils or something else very similar.

But, As I always say...... Do You......

everything in life is about personal preferences........Everything.

Oh opinions are like a(*&oles eveybody has em'......

Don't let it get you down when someone's doesn't coincide with your tastes.:inoutwavey:
