Noob to offsets and wheels... Need help big time

Hi all

This is probably a bad and broad question but im very new to trying to understand offsets and all. I have a 2nd gen GS400. Honestly i dont know what sizes will fit my car... 

I was interested in these wheels but they were sold. 
Work DH 19X9J and 19X10J +22 offset.

I am also interested in these wheels but i dont know anything about the numbers
5Hx114.3 @ Front 19x9 +24 Rear 19x10 +12 4H/5H 


Help a noob out!

the first set is fine, but the that +12. you'll need some mods. pull fender or camber it big time

How much work exactly would the 2nd set be..?

Would it be a lot of pull? 

I don't think you can adjust camber on 2nd gen GS's...but...the wheel sizes are the same as on a supra. So you can do 10" wide rear wheel with a +20 offset, and it will fit just fine. In order to fit a +12 wheel, you will need to get some stretched tires (245 or 255 series), roll your fender and pull it just a touch. You should fit them no problem...just take your time and do a good job thats all.

Would this offset be too weak or something?

it depends on the width of the wheel...but the rear is pretty weak...if the rim anywhere between 9-10" wide, you want to have the offset in low +20's. I don't remember what it should have for the front...I think it's somewhere near +25~30 for a 9" wide wheel.

You can adjust camber on a 2nd gen GS. I dont know where you got that idea from, or why you would spread such a huge misconception. Ofcourse the camber adjustment isn't extreme, but its on par with the stock adjustment of any car.

Because when I was about to get a 2nd gen GS, I was trying to find out if there are any camber adjustment kits available for that car and there were NONE available. So it is pretty easy to make an assumption that camber is not adjustable. Since I did not buy that car, there is no way for me to know that you can adjust camber from the factory to a certain degree. 

As for Club Lexus, these guys tend to be pretty conservative with their wheel sizes and offsets...any rim that comes even remotely close to the fender is considered to be a big no-no. If anything go 19x9 +30 front and 19x10 +25 rear. The rear is fairly conservative offset, bu you can always space it out...That's what I might end up doing with my new wheelset.

So does 19x9 (F) 27mm 19x10(R) 37mm mean that the rear will be "sunken" further in the fender? I would really like to align my lip flush with the fender in the rear.

How would the front be? Would it stick out too much?

Yea, that would look crappy. 


Don't listen to anything "mods" or anyone else says on CL for that matter. They are a bunch of morons. 

If you want to stand out, go for the +12 in the rear. I'm running a 18x10 +7 on the rear of my 1st gen gs. Don't get me wrong to fit that there was definatly some work required, work, people on CL don't understand is possible. Here's a pic of my first gen with the +7 on the rear. And yes, the camber is adjustable from the factory.

Obviously the fenders are differnt between your year and mine, but you get the idea.

yeah you could always space it out but why? with a little bit of fender moding and the right offset you could come out with a much better stance. I guess you have to ask yourself what you are willing to do. I would say run a better offset on the rear and have the fender pulled or rolled out to give it the VIP treatment. Just my 2cents.

If i space it out could i get it to something better? I like the wheels, and the price i want to try to work with it. 

I totally understand where you a coming from if the price is good and you like the wheels than go for it... its all about what you want to do with the car and with some spacers (if needed) you can get a nice stance out of those wheels you just wont have a huge dish in the back, but what can you do.

Do you have any pics of the rims your looking at so we can get a better idea of what your looking at?

Why would you want to do that? It will just make the wheel look akward. You would be able to acheive a much better overall apperance of the wheel, if you just got a lower offset vs spacing a higher offset wheel out.

I agree, everyone on ClubLexus is way too conservative. ---- :idiot2:----
