truly, madly, deeply, FcUKED!!!

SOOOOOOOOOOOO after i got my alternator from autozone, for $198 (military discount =)
i continued my quest to simply change the alternator of my 99' Q45 BLACK/tan (4 bippu pxrlx). How hard can it be right? i've worked on dozens of 240s, concept should be the same. 
 
so 530 am, only real safe time to work on a car in vegas without passing out from the heat. Need i mind you at that time its already over 85 degrees. Took off engine cover, wow looks like a real engine, took out battery, dont want to electricute myself, took off massive air flow box thing, cold air anyone?, took out bracket to coolant thing, even the plate that looks like its shoulder pads, never seen an engine with two of those, sorry H.O.A for the coolant on my driveway:shrug: loosened belt tensioner, took out mounting bolts, pulled out alternator... last step, taking off the harness plug.... CRACKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! as soon as i put any pressure on that thing, it shattered away like any plastic plug would after being deep fried in the fire of alternators!!! muwahahaha. So now what? 
 
how far do i have to go to replace that harness plug thing? the wires are pretty much fried... and now im stuck... do i try to use some sodering iron thing after i magically find a plug? or do i get a whole new harness, or does it part out somewhere so that i dont have to replace the whole thing? some help please before i go super sayin street fighter bonus stage on my car. :saiyancrunks:

Have you fixed the peoblem yet? if not then let me tell you that usually the alt harness which i asume is the one that the plug broke off should have another plug futher back where it plugs into the main harness. so simple go and follow the line if you get to the firewall and no other plugs was found then your going to hava to splice in a new plug. Just simply use two butt connectors. I think i saw a 99q45 in a junkyard here post up a pic of your car and the plug u need and i'll get it for you. i've never worked on a q before so i wouldn't be able to tell you for sure but use that method and you'll get it fixed. let me know if you need thaf plug

thank u sir. Im actually on the look for a new plug. Gonna check with the dealership tomorrow. If that goes to shit then your generosity would be much appreciated. However u would need to take off the engine cover if its still there to get to the alternator. Then its the plug that connects to the alternator right on top. Should be attached to three wires. I'll keep u guys updated.

just an update... no dealer will sell that plug alone. gotta hit up a junkyard for a car that you rarely see on the road, hopefully because they're all in the junkyard. hopefully. fcuk. :sad:

I'm going to the junk yard this week i'll let you know. I remember seeing it their so hopefully it's not gutted. Does it have another plug that goes to the main harness if so how far is it from the alt.

i dont get it, so when did the wires fry??? first you say cracked harness then it took a turn saying it was fried:shrug:

When the alternator was on fire it fried the wires n the clip. Putting pressure on the clip when i was trying to take it off caused it to crack, more like shatter into pieces. so thats where it went from fried to shattered.

thank you sir. im going to head up to the junkyard this friday too.  wish i could go earlier but the kid and working graveyard dont exactly permit me to do so. If in which case you do run across it, there is no other plug that runs up the harness with it... meaning its not a sub harness. its directly connected to the harness. three wires... please cut enough slack on the wires for me to work with. like at least 6-12 inches. please. =) you would have to peel it back a little from the main harness.

Damn bro good luck on fixin your ride!! yeah you dont see alot of Qs on the road here!! I found a site that sells alot of parts for the Q. Just gotta find it again and i will post it up!! Hope you get it rollin again!!  oh yeah and about the title....Karaoke anyone!!?? LOL

sorry to hear this. my 98 q's alternator died on me yesterday too luckily i was almost home. i got one at kragens for 200 and took 3 hrs to change getting parts and all. the plug was also really brittle but i got it off with little damage. i checked online and the 98's had a recall and if it was never changed previously they wouldve done it for free. only prob i had was my vin number wasnt the matching ones. your symptoms sound alot like the recall. should check it out.

98's but mines 99. where'd you get that info from ??

damn ! still no luck !!! wtf ... there has to be a plug out there somewhere !!!

i called the dealer but i live in the oc.

the plug looks really similar to a 240 plug. from my old car but not 100% sure. im sure the plugs might cross reference to other nissan/infiniti vehicles

PXRLEX: yup still no luck. just collecting dirt on my hot ass driveway and driving my girls s14 around. guess it saves gas, but i had a full tank in the Q. :sad:
MEBIPPU: what did the dealer say? cuz i called the dealer out here, they said since its not a subharness, they would have to sell the whole engine harness $1200+ fack no. i havent even thought of lookin into a 240 plug... if the alternators match... maybe... i'll check it out when i get home...

no luck in junkyards in three cities. Is this alternator used in any other car? :signdammit:

worst case scenario: cut both the connectors off and solder it together. better yet run a large gauge fused power wire straight to the battery (google "big 3 upgrade" if you are not familiar with it). the connector is just 1 wire right?

Just came back from vegas junkyards. Guess what I got !!!! A fuckin sunburn. =( bunch of g50s. But no y's. Gonna look up that big three thing. But its three wires to two terminals. So... I dunno if that makes a difference.

as long as the alt gets power from the battery and the wire is fused its all good. the bat + to alternator is the only one (of the "big 3") you really need to be concerned with but while you're in there and since you need the supplies anyway...

Yeah the only thing google came up with "the big three" was for ww2

keep in mind this is usually an audio/power system upgrade but the process will be exactly the same, just with a different purpose.

Victory. thank you all for you're help. finally got a harness off of ebay for dirt cheap, cut and sodered what i needed on. tried to remember how to put everything back together again, cuz i took everything apart a month ago... started the shit... left it on for an hour to see what happens. checked the output on the starter/battery/alternator. all signs are go!!! feels good to be driving a gas guzzler again. special thanks to joe (dzznuts) for finding the ish on ebay. haha. AIGHT THEN LATE!!!!

and then 4 days later... the car drained the battery again... what did i do wrong... whats wrong with my car... i hate my life. :sad:

damn brohammer.  Did you try a new battery?  My dad's jeep did this recently.  Just died out of nowhere.  I tested my LS400 battery on it and it started right up.
