Got the Y34 dropped.
Well my springs are finally in. They are the Espiler 1.6 drop for the gloria. They went in with no issues. My only wish is that the fronts would be lower to match the backs. My buddy told me that he could cut a half a coil, not a whole one since the gap between the springs is very large. The only issue would be a possible "popping" when turning. Not sure I want to deal with that.
Its definately not low enough, but will have to do for now until I can pick up a set of coilovers or air.
Well here is the before:

Definitely a good start. I cut 1/2 coil all around on my Y33 and it's perfect. No issues at all, no popping in front, and I did exactly the same thing: 1/2 coil from the bottom, the fronts are very spaced out. Y33 & Y34 suspension and springs are nearly identical, so I say go for it, you shouldn't have any problem.

Should've saved your money for air suspension. Looks better though.

So you cut 1/2 of the coil on your OE springs? Just curious as this might be a cheap temporary alternative for me.

The springs were about 250 installed, the cheapest air is about $3500. Thats a lot of saving.

Cool, then I may try it in the front at least. Its a daily so I dont think ill touch the rears.

Viruz, I've been on Tein S-Tech Y33 springs for 4 years now, but I cut 1/2 coil on them in like Feb or so of this year, it dropped the car down about 1/2-3/4" from the original 2" drop. Still want about another 1/2-3/4" more though.
To get this height on stock springs, you'd damn near have to cut them in half lol.

The K-Break springs offer a lower drop. I believe 3 inchs.

Yeah, that's what I never liked on Espelirs, the drop is so mild. At least with Tein you get 2" but 3" would be just about right.

From what I had found online I did not see a lower drop for the y34. The tiens are only a 1.25 from what I know for this car. The K-Break lists at 35mm front and 40mm rear. The espiler are 40mm all around.
The tiens are:
Drop F= 25mm (1inch)
Drop R= 22mm (bit less then an inch)

Heres the link to the suspension on k-break's site

But after looking at it again i was incorrect about the drop. Its about the same as the espelirs so never mind.

yeah, unfortunately there are not many low spring options for the Y34. I will hopefully be going air or coilovers in the near future.

i'm sure everyone is aware and that but just thought id throw out there that the reason these arent that low is that the rates can only be so hard otherwise they wont work right with the stock shocks. also if theyre too low theyll kill the stock shocks in no time and struggle to not bottom out with their rates.
so im with everyone else in that it looks quite okay for now so i would just leave it and save up. they will probably settle a bit too and go slightly lower

its not bad man. i understand not going with a $2000+ air suspension. I've been contemplating doing springs with a cut ro about 1/4 of air ride cost just until I can save enough. :flamesuit:

I got a chance to flog the hell out of it in some twisties and daymn the car is solid. The springs reduced the body roll and made the car feel very solid. If anyone has looked under the car you would see the car has a ridiculously thick set of sway bars and super thick tie rods. The suspension in this car is really good.
I was surprised that the ride has not been hurt that much going up to the 20's and lowering the car. The car still is very cushy and comfortable when cruising. Potholes and bumps are not that harsh.
I would highly reccomend these springs.

Factory shocks. I do not expect any issues since the drop and spring rates are not too bad so they should not affect the shocks too much. I have always run into the springs will ruin factory shocks issue but it has not happened to me. I had springs on my BMW Mroadster with factory shocks for over 4 years and never had a issue. If the shocks do end up going on the car I doubt it will be before I switch to coilovers or air.

I got the car tinted this weeked.
I went with the F1 Ultimate Series. It is ceramic but does not have the non electronic interference property. I paid $209 installed. I went with the legal 28 on all the side windows and the 18 on the rear window only. I didn't want to have a shade difference on the sides since the widows basically but up against each other. I am very happy with the results. It is much cooler in the car and looks good too.
I also decided to debadge the rear of the car. Looks very clean in my opinion.
Now for the pictures:

I always wonder why people buy springs and say, "I'm waiting on the springs to settle." That just means you wish you went with coilovers because you're not happy with the height. You'd have better luck putting some bags of ride in your trunk than waiting for the springs to settle if you want to go lower.
It looks good for a moderate drop though. I bet it rides nice.

+1 on that AMEN. Exactly why I cut my stock springs. My buddie and I got the H&R dropsprings in and rolled it around the block and it was such a tease
(still a 2 finger gap) and he was like "don't trip, let them settle, you'll be happy" FT, took out the drop springs, measured them next to my stock spring and cut the stock springs. I lost $100 reselling my dropsprings but at least I'm tuckin half sidewall up front and barely tucking a pinkies worth of rubber on the rears. Perfect rake IMO.
But, I gotta say it does look better than stock, you could always cut a coil off the dropsprings or resell them and roll on cut stock coils FTW.

The coils on the front are not easily cutable. To cut a whole coil, which is the best way to do it so the spring sits in the perch the same way it would before it was being cut, you would end up dropping the front another 1 inch which would make it un driveable with my rims.

That sux, Howso? Because of width clearance wise? From the pics that looks like another inch lower would be perfect to close up any wheel gap, but pictures can be deceiving...

It would be about 1/2 too much. The fender lining on the inside rubs under bumps right now. Rubs at the top of the tire.

I am running pretty aggressive width rims since my buddy got me a deal on them. I have room to go with a smaller tire on the front and stretch it but right now my tires have lots of tread on them so I figure I will wait until they need to be replaced.
Unfortunately the way the M is you cant roll the front fenders, they are basically already rolled. I can take out the plastic inner fender lining and that would probably solve the problem but I don't like the dirt that gets up inside the car that way.
If I do go air or coils I will probably end up removing the liner but I think ill just deal with the too high front for now.

Damn, yeah, I feel you on running w/ out fender lining or no skid plate or anything like that, a bunch of debris under the hood isn't too cool...have you worn out the inners from camber yet?..maybe flipping them might give you some more wiggle room?

I have the same springs on my m45. Only difference is I'm on 19s and he's on 20s. Rears sit decent, I have about a 2finger gap in the front. I might be able to cut a coil off, just worried about how the ride will be like. Right now it rides like stock. How is your ride on cut springs?

Ride is cool, pretty much same as stock. Don't Infinitis have independent front suspension? If so you should be cool, I can't say from personal expierience but my Benz's cut coils ride way smoother than my Toyota's Intrax dropsprings did plus I had KYB shocks on it, I've been on my cut coils and stock shocks for like two years now, still rides better, point is I'm guessing it's because of the independent suspension set up compared to the Toyota's where the shock was centered in the spring...
