Things to do while in Japan??

 Im FINALLY making the trip!!  Actually going a couple places and figure that Id stay in Japan for a few days.  This will be in Feb. when I take a month off from working like a slave :smiley-rofl:
 
soooo, who knows whats up and where to go?? whats the weather like around that time? etc,etc..
 
I need to get this part planned as soon as possible to have my Agent fit it into my travel schedule and buy the Tix:runcoold:

Well, depending on what part of japan your going to, will decide what you can do. If you want to see the cosplayer/gothic lolita people, go to Akihabara, tons of fun down there.

Feb is still VERY cold so bring plenty of warm clothes. 
 
As for what to do... Drinking seems to be tiding me over quite well. Its socially acceptable to be pretty much blind drunk in public; [b]though this does NOT mean to be a blind-drunk-gaijin yelling out at the top of your voice or starting fights...[/b] It means "cannot walk straight, very happy drunk"... 
 
Erm right, other than that you might find car shows are a bit rare around that time, due to the cold weather. There is TAS in January, and then Osaka Auto-Messe in Feb and a couple of other big events full of sponsor cars, but not many of the parking lot style vip events where people bring their own cars etc.
 
I am not if your sig is for real, but if you really are Yamaguchi-gumi then head down to Osaka and your 'crew' will take care of you for the rest of your trip. Just dont do anything to embarrass them or you wont be able to do hand modelling anymore :D
 
Akihabara is great. Too many foreigners and Otaku there for my liking, but cheap electronics. Harajuku on Sundays is always a blast, head up towards Meiji temple and be greeted with the strangest looking people you will ever see
 
Shibuya, head to 109 building which is all girls clothes shops, or just walk around to be amazed at the amount of people.
 
There are more, but my days tend to be filled with alcohol so they get a bit mixed up... haha

I think Harajuku has more of the cosplay/goth peeps.  Right outside the train station next to the temple entrance is where they usually meet or congregate.

But then there's all the crazy fashions within the side streets of Harajuku as well.  There's a great Adidas and Puma store there too.

Ive been fortunate to meet "all types" of people throughout this whole "internet thing". So Ive got a few "big brothers" . 
 
Shibuya? is a must then!! Im looking forward to more shoes!!  and cool electronics! I'll be gone for a few weeks but I can see myself blowing my whole budget in Japan...before I even reach my other destinations :sad:

Too bad you aren't  going next month!  I'll be there for my 4th trip at the end of Sept and will be meeting up w/ Dom and Grant somewhere.  I've been 4 times and never driven once lol.  Maybe I'll give it a shot this time, but I'm just as happy sitting in the spacious back seat of my in-laws Nissan Bluebird Sylphy.  That thing pisses me off though, it's a lower class car than a Cima, yet it's got 2x the leg room in the back.

October is BEAUTIFUL weather. I love din October. Feb is going to be COLD. so make sure you definitely dress warm. There is a TON of things to do just don't be afraid to try and wander around. Also read up on the train system cause the maps are very confusing at first. Unless your driving then don't worry about it. Oh and don't exchange your money at the airport, do it in Narita or through your bank you get the best rate that way.

If you're going to be in the Tokyo area, I can recommend a good, cheap ramen shop in Shimbashi. Only Y500 for basic ramen and you can use a coupon which they have in a little box right outside for a free refill of noodles. It's a really small shop about a 1 minute walk from the exit opposite of Shiodome. When you exit, go to the left of the phone shop. It's next to the Standing Sushi shop which has nigiri for only Y75!! Never tried that one, but even if it's shitty, should be better than some places stateside.

There is a 135yen/plate (2 pieces) sushi place near my house that is absolutely awesome though. Really generous servings, all freshly made and lots to choose from... All plates are the same price so you can really get a big feed for under $20

Haha, for me, food is one place I don't mind spending extra money. If it's cheap, it's a plus! Anyway, you have to tell me where this place near your house is. I'll trade you one yakiniku restaurant location for it, ;). Come on, you know you wanna tell me. If it's good, then I will trade the location of one restaurant whose kurobuta tonkatsu is second to none, not even my place, for another one of your cheap and good restaurants. Its in Kameido, which is the opposite side of Tokyo to where most foreigners choose to live/hang out (i.e. Shinjuku/Shibuya/Roppongi). But its on the Sobu-line so easy to get to. Take the north exit out of the station, turn right out of the turn-stiles and come out under the railway bridge. Turn left towards Keiyo doori, and then left again at Keiyo doori. Its about 3 shops down, and you will know when you see it. All in all about 100m from the station
 
Not too big, and its essentially a kaiten-zushi, but you get quicker service just ordering what you want and getting them to make it for you (comes out quicker than waiting for a half-turn of the conveyer belt lol). I think they have even cheaper lunch deals too...

^ I'll remember that the next time I go back. The yakiniku place I really like is in Kawasaki, and is in Saiwai-ku, IIRC. It's called Koriya, and for 6 adults and two kids, we ate for only Y33,000. I usually can eat that much by myself, haha. I'm trying to remember the street name but it's been a few months since I last went in that area.

I can't believe none of us remembered to tell you to get to Daikoku, haha. If you can meet up with someone you know who drives, go hit up Daikoku Parking Area! If anything, buy a t-shirt, go upstairs and try a McPork off the Y100 Mac menu, and wait for the cars to arrive!

Speaking of touristy things... Theres Odaiba, and Toyota Megaweb, which is a showcase for all the current toyotas/lexus's
 
Then go to the Drive-One area and book a 15 minute test drive of the following cars:
Toyota Crown Athlete
Toyota Crown Majesta (kinda similar to the Athlete, my second choice was the Alphard)
Toyota CENTURY!
 
Cant leave Japan without driving the ultimate pimp machine!

I had heard from some good friends from Fukuoka that guys driving Centuries were against the Emperor, since the Century is his car.

DriftGirl, if you've got the time, hop the special train to Gunma from Ueno Station, then take a bus up the mountain to a small town called Ikaho. From there, get to any of the many ryokan and enjoy the onsen and views of Mt. Haruna. It'll set you back USD$200-400 a night though, but well worth it, IMO. I went with my girlfriend two years ago and have been dying to go back. I stayed at Kishigon Ryokan and it was one of the lower priced ones, but I still spent almost $1000. We had out large room, and we reserved a private onsen for about 1 hour, but we still had access to the public ones all night. Great food, great service, nice yukatas for us to wear. I'll dig up some photos if you'd like.

I LOVE the onsens.  Every time I've been there we went to a different one for a night, but a new one opened in the town my in-laws live so we're gonna just go there and stay in the Tokyo area the whole time on this trip (I leave on the 30th this month).

WOW they have  McPork..  thats sounds all mouth watering whatever it is.... we only have McChicken over here....

^ The funny thing is most foreigners like the McPork, but I don't know many Japanese who do. Whatever, it's on the Y100 Mac menu, so I can buy 5 of them at a time. I'm never out early enough to get the Lotteria burger. Good and cheap, too, but they always sell the first 200 before I get there!

I just got back from 8 days in Tokyo and had the most awesome time. Akihabara was crazy. Girlfriend lives in Tachikawa. I am already planning to move there. May sell the LS430 now or take it, it all depends.

Hahaha... sounds fun. Bringing A Japanese car which is specially made for US market (think left hand drive) and bringing it back to Japan where it's right hand drive?

Now that's a plan. I bet your car's gonna sell for much higher price in Japan if they're as madly in love with USDM as u guys with JDM! LOL

^ I had quite a few messages on Minkara asking if I had brought my car back to Japan with me. I wish I could've but I couldn't get a parking spot in my building. They're all taken up by Hiaces and Cimas... I'm just glad that in Tokyo, the ticket machines are on both sides at the parking structures. I bought a friend's friend a garbage claw from Chinatown so he could get his tickets from the machines in Chiba, haha.
