Discuss new Texas VIP meet...

Had the idea of having the next VIP meet a BBQ.  We can have it set up as a pot luck, so everyone has to bring something.  I think we are all over 21, so I can get a keg.  I think a park would be good for this kind of meet.  There are many here in houston.  George Bush Park or Bear Creek Park are the two that come to mind.  Lets discuss a place, time, and date to have the new one....

Those parks let you drink alcohol ?

Someone call the park, see if Memorial allows alcohol. I didnt know there was a glass container rule I though it was all alcohol in general. Im down for whatever though, put some fajitas on the grill with a couple coronas:cool:

i did a bbq at memorial with my maxima guys. $75 to reserve a spot, you can bring alcohol, and you get a permit saying there will be alcohol so it's 100% legit.

i got all the contact info for whoever is settin it up.

im down for some park action....once we get a spot let me know the date and i will be there.

well after talking to someone....it has come to my attention that having alcohol + car meet could = bad news. I think we need to refrain from bring the alcohol.   We don't want to risk people getting into an accident, pulled over, be ticketed, and/or hurting/killing others on their way home from the meet.  Legally this will keep the responsibilty from VSC and members on the board.  If yall wanna go out to a bar for the after meet then im down.

i dunno who's bright idea the no alcohol thing was but a bbq without beer is just standing in the sun waitin for hot dogs and s**t. maybe we shouldn't announce it or whatever on vsc to limit their liability (i [I]really[/I] don't see that happening anyway) but come on... nobody said anything when the meets were [I]at[/I] bars or resteraunts that serve alcohol. i vote b.y.o.b. so no one can be held accountable except for the idiot who overdoes it.

of course my opinion means little, i could quite possibly be at home lookin sick cause my sorry a** can't put together a drivable car.

and hey if you do get ticketed or anything "cop involved"  then you don't say your leaving the meet. you left a friends house or something. and how about whoever sets up the time/date for the meet also designates himself or whoever wants to do so (preferably a reputable person here) set up a paypal for all of us to throw money into so that one person has money from people and knows who has chipped in so that person can go get the food etc. as in the one with the paypal can go shopping for the meet

BYOB sounds like a good plan...I know we did that at bear creek park at the bbq that my team held. And cops rolled through but didnt say anything to anyone! Just made sure nobody was being stupid!!

But if BYOB dosent fall through we can always just go to a bar afterwards!!

Ill call up memorial park later this week and see exactly what the deal is.  I also think the BYOB is a good idea, that way if you brought it you will be held liable since it was not supplied by the meet.  I have a paypal address that we could use for donations, ill set everything up as soon as I figure out how much the spot would be plus all the things for the bbq.  We need to finalize a date so that I can request it.  People here have said they want it in NOV/DEC.  Do yall want it on a sunday or saturday?

my total for the maxima meet was ~$200 for a grill, meat (hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken), and reservations. others brought (or were supposed to bring) everything else. i think setting taking donations is the way to go because even after i assigned everyone some stuff to bring half of them didn't come through or just plain didn't show up. this way everything is up to one person.

sunday agreed. and glad everyone likes the paypal thing i thought that to be the best idea that way if you donate you will show and not feel bad for not bringing anything. and alcoholics go to small rooms for their meeting ha ha not public parks

Yea Sunday would probably be best, personally I dont work Saturdays but most people are off Sundays for sure.  Set a for sure date though, December is more likely to be colder where as November will have more fall cooler weather I think.  GG on the paypal idea.

man its almost 100% that my maxima is going to be flooded. 18 blocks off the seawall, cars outside were already up to the bumper a couple hours ago. i don't know whether i'm happy or sad about it.

Dont ya think BBQ meet is a good idea..  I dont think it is cuz there is not enough space around the park..  I prefer big space, more walk, and less hesitate to find easier spot for parking..

Both parks we are trying to decide with have more than enough space to park and to move around in. The Bear Creek park is one park we always have big meets in since it has sufficient space for everyone.
