The Camry Build. pt.1

It's not VIP but it will be built with the VIP elements as best as possible. I don't know what category it will be considered. But I'm going to call the style Proper.

Camera phone pics but you will get the picture.

I like where you're going with it. Can we see the rest o the kit? Lose the wheels. Just my 2 cents.

the wheels are definitely going out the door. Hopefully by the end of this year I'm going to try to order some Work Varianza D3S wheels for it in 18X8 all around but with different offsets front and rear. Going to go with less offset in the rear for more lip. I'm not a fan of running staggered wheels on a fwd platform. I will try to get pics up of the rest of the kit by wednesday this week.

No. It is actually a kit that was mass produced however I got the last one made. It's been sitting in my garage for over 2 years.

Thanks man. Patience is a virtue with this car. Almost everything has to be custom made.

Definitely planning a color change. I'm trying to decide between black with a blue pearl or a deep dark metallic blue. Basically a nice dark blue with some depth to it.

Wow, I'm with the others on this one. Never seen one of this year done up before. I'd like to see where you're taking it with the deep metallic blue. The newer SC430's had a beautiful deep blue...

Boost is nice too =P

Your track will still be staggered by having a lower offset in the rear.

I just remembered that the SC430's had a nice deep brown as well. I wouldn't mind going with it but my interior is already blue. I did recently see the blue that you were talking about. I like it but I'd do more pearl.

this is true however since the car already has 30mm less track in the rear. I'll actually be evening it out with the front. or getting it pretty close. From a performance stand point that may or may not be in my best interest. But I want my stance + fitment. I'm going to be building an all-motor camry in the future so that one will have more focus on handling so on and so forth.

When I speak about custom made I'm talking about the suspension pieces to get the car to sit lower. Everything else is pretty much set. I'm not really a fan of doing what everyone else does (not saying I'm the first to bring these elements of styling to a fwd platform) so the camry will definitely be moving forward.

CamryVIp - you misinterpreted biggz i think, he was saying to be prepared for what grant (yokotas13) might have to say! he generally speaks his mind haha

but interesting idea for the project. i see where you're coming from with the Maserati vs Lexus perspective argument, but at the end of the day most Lexus' were produced with an element of style/luxury intrinsically implied, even if it is only by the fact they're a Lexus / luxury brand Toyo. Whereas the Camry, was always just a family taxi, so you're up against it! You have to try and bring it up to date while not being hurt by the fact its a camry and people writing it off as ricey or such since people who generally may do up a car like that would be just doing cause that's all they could afford rather than cause they have a passion for it like you obviously do!

Wow.. I know why you are trying to build this car to be some thing else then the norm... But I just dont think its going to work. I remember going to Nopi nats in Atl I think 8 years ago and there was this cat who had fixed up a Ford Tempo. and I mean he had done every thing to it custom body kit/ paint/ air ride/ tweed seats the whole 9 yards and all I could think was wow if he had spent all that money on a good car what he could have achieved! But instead he had a polished turd! Sorry bro just trying to help

Haha. It wouldn't be the first time that I've heard the polished turd statement. I realize that this car isn't appealing to everyone but I'm still gonna go forward with the build and use it as practice for when I do get a platform car.

Updates with the sideskirts on should be coming soon. I was recently laid off so that definitely put a hold on planned purchases. I believe I'll still be able to get the rest of the kit on as well as put on a more vip styled exhaust canister very soon though.

a fwd non platform car, sounds familiar...lol. get used to a little constructive critisim along your build. i know that feeling all to well now, however i think if you keep a good attitude you`ll do just fine. sorry to hear about your job, i live day to day so i know what it`s like.
just put it together and drive it in primer for now if you have to. sometimes that`s not a bad thing, you can road test your body kit and give it a little abuse before the shiny paint is on. then you can learn it`s weak points (like ground clearance)
keep the pics comin!! good luck!

Definitely be unique, and I would like to see how it gets finished. I'm sure someone in Japan has VIP-styled this gen Camry. I think they have decent body lines, but it just isn't big enough, or RWD. Either way I'd like to see the completed project.

Good luck with the build. My only issue with the camry is that there is absolutely NO LUXURY in it at all. But, if you love it then it is worth it to you and I respect that. I would just save up to get a car that has a little bit of luxury but thats just my opinion...and what counts is your own.

Yeah these cars hold a spot in my heart. Sad but true this gen of camry barely had any luxury optoins. I think the most high end ones did have leather sunroof and possibly a cd player. I'm not sure about the cd player but I know leather and sunroof definitely were options they had back then.

I wouldn't be surprised if some one in Japan did vip style one of these. If I squint really really hard I kinda see a ucf10 lol.

And right now the front lip is holding up very well with the road test for a fiberglass piece I figured it would have cracked the first time it contacted the road but it's holding up very well. I know I got the last copy made so I don't know if the guy took extra special care to make it strong or what but I've beat it up already and it's still firm as ever. No cracks anywhere and I've dragged it pretty hard getting into gas stations twice.

I'm actually going to adapt some celica coilovers to the car and possibly ride even lower in the future. I'm getting pretty good at zig zagging my way onto inclines. Coming off of an incline is when I have problems judging what angle the car needs to be at.haha

The front bumper never was my problem it was allways the back bumper that I would break on my old car.

I'll look out for it. I don't have it on as of yet. But it rakes upwards and doesn't hang as far down as my front so I don't think it'll be to much of a hassle for me.
