part 2, after months of prcrastination....

so after many months of procrasination, only being able to work on my car on the weekends... i signed up for an extra credit coarse at the CC autobody program i graduated from.... i get 4 credits to work on my car the whole day.... NICE....so 5 days a week, about 5 hrs a day, i get to "DO WORK" on my car... so expect to see this project done in the near future... everyday (during the week)i get something done so expect updates... im thinking of not going with red like i previously planned... so we'll see... 

so, im just trying to complete the body work. fix the front bumper from when my neighbors niece hit it, get the headlight/corner market gaps on point, make this body kit fit better than if it were a stock item, etc, etc, etc...

oh yeah, for the fog lights, i was able to get my hands on a set of fogs form a 2006 ford expedition, and they fit nicely...

Damn thats going to be NUTSO :biggthumpup: Thats come a LONG way from when I originally first saw the pics with just your old AX's on.

If that were my car, I'd probably do Candy red, with the wheel faces candy red with polished lip, JDM 1 piece lights with eyebrows, and RCR LED tails...but thats just me haha...

hahahahaha, yeah im glad i finally get to work on it more than i used to... feels great. everything is planned out, each day i finish what i want to get finish. so far everything is going smoothly...

well, i supply my own material, tuition paid for the spray booth and everything else... so, yeah... everyday some other student asks me what color im gonna paint it, or compliments me on it, or what am i doing, or g'damn thats a fat lip.... they try to school me on things sometimes but i guess they still dont know i graduated from there and im an autobody tech... theyll see when i start laying down some color...

i vote for like a deep dark purple. something a little different then everyone else! it looks black unless you see it in the sun!

work looks great and the kit looks nice!

I really like what you've done.  Excellent job on prepping the kit.  I know how hard it is to stay motivated to keep it perfect.

im gonna stay away from tri-stage for this project. tri-stage to me looks TOO luxurious.... theres to many edges and lines to this car/kit, the pearl would "POP" too much... at least to me... if i were still going with red (hmm), ive been looking at the bright red from the prius... its very deep. 
 
but i plan on going tri-stage on my g50... toyota super white with escalade white pearl. itll be so bright, you can even look at it... but tomorrow is monday, and ill be working on my car... ill get some photos up everyday of my progress...

The Toyota Super White is so damn bright I painted a civic that color last year and damn it was bright in the sun.

i can dig it i didn't spray that piece but i did see the paint and it didn't look to have any pearl in it. it was a candy red over fine red metallic and ever since i saw it i've been trying to talk someone into painting something that color. i've even briefly thought about doing one of my cars that color.

the cadillac diamond pearl is sick. when i was looking for a g50 i really wanted a tan on white one so i could go that color but black on black is cool with me too.

everything is blocked down and almost ready for prime. just gotta block the front bumper and take care of some things with the rear bumper... i should have primer layed down over the body worked areas on the car and the whole kit by the end of next week... after that, strip it down to spray the door jambs, under the hood, insides of the fenders, under the trunk, etc....

i was gonna ask the same thing. never seen that done before. my guess is it restores some of the rigidity that was lost when shaving the lip.

I trimmed the lip off the front fenders, and hammer/dolly'd the remaining lip flat... one day while going up a driveway while the tire was turned, the tire caught the fender and mangled it. So I decided to glass the backside for added rigidity cuz all it is now without the metal I cutoff, is a single piece of sheetmetal. I put like 4 layers of fiberglass so im sure its not going anywhere.   Monday I got a BIG pallet getting delivered to my house for my g50, so I might not get to work on my lexus... but for sure next week everything will be primered, and taken apart to spray all the jambs. I got a color I like you all will just have to wait....

moved the car to the other side of the shop, from the body work area to the prep/wetsand/all done area... somehow i cracked the rear bumper taking it off to prep it for prime... minor set back. glassed it, reinforced it, body worked it and prepped it in about 20mins.... 

moving the car, rear bumper, and fenders into the prime station tomorrow morning to prime it. next week ill year it all down to spray the jambs... but this weekend, ill be with the president...

thought i had more pics but this was the only one on my phone.... but you get the picture. getting there... all doors are off, trunks off, almost all the jambs are prepped for paint. monday everything is going in the booth to spray the jambs, under the trunk, backsides of the doors, the color red... havent even picked out the color yet... i gotta do that tomorrow i guess. worked on a red 07 honda accord today, very nice color. i really dont know what color red to go with yet... guess everyones just gonna have to wait...

can't wait to see the first bit of color. what kind of red are you looking for? i think a bright red would be sick, especially since its an older style build. make it loud and over the top. something  like nissan ultra red or crimson blaze.

Well im looking at a red from a 2008 model car... either from audi, hyundai, infiniti/nissan, or mitsubishi... all these reds cost about the same cuz all have metallics and pearls in them and that makes them so expensive. Im leaning towards the audi garnet red effect or mitsubushi rally red effect....

All of the reds I posted are available on 2008 cars. Hell, my sister has a 2008 Mazda 5GT in Copper Red. Mitsu's Rally Red is a cool hue, but IMO it doesn't have enough pearl in it to really pop. Audi's Garnet Red is sex though lol.

g'damn.... today was hell... taping up to spray the jambs is way more of a bitch than taping up to spray the outside of a car.... seriously... but i got it done. cant spray tomorrow like i planned cuz the instructors got a meeting so monday hopefully. but itll give me more time to choose a color.

I saw a newer red SC430 the other day and I really like the color. What do you think?

With all that work going into the project why didn't you take off the strikers for a super clean paint job? Good stuff by the way, I do this stuff everyday :biggthumpup:

What the hell, you've come this far.

Did this on my GS, and ended-up replacing all the window
trim clips for the pieces at the bottom edge of the door windows.

Also, it was a good opportunity to stick a new windshield in - only about $130,
and it makes the car feel brand-new when you're driving.

I like the idea of a red. Check out Noble Spinel Mica on the new Lexus LS460.

Also, the IS Matador Red is sweet, but might be a bit bright for such a big car.

i can get around the rubber so when i paint, you would think i took the glass out... the rubber can be folded back a bit, i use a plastic sided masking tape... slip it between the rubber and body, and tape the rubber back toward the window... spray normally, when the paint dries, take the tape off and let the rubber return to its normal position against the body and presto... wouldnt be able to tell i never took the window out.... well at least this is how the rubber is on a 1LS.. not sure about other cars...
 
but i picked up my paint today from my friends body shop, he mixed me up some paint from a 2008 Audi, Garnet Red Effect is what its called... pretty expensive paint, thats what to expect when you pick a red... you guys are just gonna have to wait until monday...

sorry guys, no teasers.... im still wet sanding the whole car, 4 door handles, 2 mirrors, 2 water squirters, 4 door caps, 2 side skirts, 2 bumpers, removing parts like the chrome trim/molding around the side windows.... man.... theres just so much things i gotta do... i dont think ill be spraying this friday as i planned. hope fully next week before i fly out for sema... ill get some teaser pics for you guys...

i took some parts of my body kit home so i can do some sanding when i get home from work....

sweet, well hopefully you will get it done before you head out for SEMA. seems like most of the busy work is done at least.

Why didn't you just shoot the entire car at once instead of doing the jams....you already had the whole car stripped.
 
With the gun your using and clean paint booth you won't have to worry about any tiger stipes and it saves you alot of time too. When I do completes I usually shoot everything so at the end of the day you won't ever see tape marks from shooting it the second time.

I don't want to risk having the doors being a shade off from the rest of the car.. Know what I mean? If I paint the doors off the car and everything else all at once, I don't want it to look like my doors got touched up after the car was painted.... I don't trust myself enough with this particular color. The first tint in the mixture is called transparent red... it took me like 5 coats to get propper coverage. And if I go just a little bit slower spraying the car and too fast on the doors, you'll see it... having all the main parts on the car as im spraying feels safer to me, if I have to, ill walk the whole car... also too, you know how many parts would be in the booth with me if I did the whole car with the doors off? Not everything would fit. I plan on painting the car, parts, and body kit all in the same booth, this way I can spray everything, bake it, let it cool, take it out and start buffing. I would hate top have to spray twice, or use the prep statiion booth to paint some of the parts in. Our prep station is mainly for priming. Tape lines in the jambs, in not so much worried about cuz I won't have any.. I got a method to reduce, or hide, or not even have any when I paint... and even if I had tape lines, im not gonna show it off at the car shows... lol  Anyways, thanks for asking... I can't even wait to see this thing done. A LOT of people want to see this thing done here in hawaii....

so this sprays like a candy?

Kinda sorta...but not as transparent as candy... candy, no matter how many coats you put on, its transparent... that's why they spary like a silver or gold base, the shoot the candy over that... the color im using, with enough coats, you won't be able to see through it... but I will be spraying a white sealer to make the red brighter. Candy is a whole different story... if u mess up, everythings gotta come off. So tune in this week folks....

yeah, i sprayed my mailbox in candies with a black base and used marbilizer to get the wood grain effect.

but i moved my car into the booth today, the car itself is all ready to go. everything else is also ready to go except for the front and rear bumpers. tomorrow (tuesday) will sand the bumpers and get everything else prepped for paint, and moved into the booth. wednesday, 7am, ill tape everything up and get it ready for paint. thursday, 7am, start laying down some color and get this show on the road... hopefully i wont take too long painting cuz i still gotta go to work after. friday, 7am, take everything out of the booth and assemble what i can. friday, 3pm, on a plane to vegas for SEMA BABY!!!!

wow it seems like you have everything on schedule, but this I must tell you:

We have waited for a long time......and I rather have you take your time painting it than rushing it. I love the color and Im 100% that the final product its going to be BANANAS!!!!

Also are the Kranze's going on the LS?

Does it look like we will get to see some "after the booth" shots before you jump on that plane?  Once again much props to your DIY skills.  After the LEXUS and INFINITI are you going to finish up the truck?  Also have you already decided color for the INFINITI and Truck?

Well, a lot.. In high school I took automech and began painting then. I painted a lot of cars, full completes in high school. After high school, my brother registered me in the autobody program at out local college, furthered my skills there, got a job at a badass body shop while going to school. And did a lot more cars then... but the last car I painted before my car was a 350z over 4 yrs ago... so im a bit rusty but it all came back to me. Sucks that it had to all come back to me while doing my car but oh well, this is the first car of mine that I've painted, all the others were either my brothers car or friends cars... I know where the flaws are so I can fix them, by the time I debut it, none of the flaws will be visable... at least to the untrained eye. Haha

The color came out so damn good I like it alot and damn you have perfect fitment on your bodykit I cant wait to see it all put back together wheels and all!!

almost fully assembled. just gotta respray my mirrors, 1 door handle and the water squirters... 
as for the paper, i cut holes in them so that when i sand and buff it doesnt get flung around in places i dont want it. BUT im gonna be bringing my car home to finish it so im assembling my car. i can just tape up the edges and retape what i dont want sanded and buffed.

Ok guys... this morning I resprayed both mirrors, 1 door handle and the water squirters. Baked it for 30mins and let it cool for 45mins. I also put back together some small misc thing on my car... so tomorrow morning all I gots to do it put the mirrors back on, put the last door handle back on, and drive her home... so the next time you guys will see my car will be in my garage. Keep in mind, I still gotta color sand, and buff it..

i'm just now popping in on this thread. haven't posted anything in a while. but i thought it'd be worthwhile for me to give my 2 thumbs up and a big grin on this build. it looks great. i am very impressed. i hope to one day get my own UCF10. it's by far my favorite platform of the true VIP cars

Wow its been a year already huh?  This ride is going to be a great "completed project" addition to the EMPIRE family.  After you have completed her you can get busy with the PRESIDENT......I am sure that she is wanting some of your attention.

Still buffing guys... so as im buffing, I see the outcome and think it could be better so I color sand again and buff it out again... im doing it to pretty much every panel but its well worth it in the end. Just gotta buff a few more panels and do a final buff with a swirl remover, then hand buff with a hand glaze and done... install the chrome trims, put my rims on and wait til our cruise to debut it... but when this car is done all attention is directed to the president... kouki grill and trunk chrome trim, sessions kit, amistad rims, green w/ green pearl paint....

i cant figure out why when i take pictures with my cell phone (sidekick LX) a small portion of the right side is blurry... anyone else have this problem? anywho... her she, almost, is... gonna buff it one more time because, well, i can... hahahaha, outcome could be better but i gotta make it out to my clubs cruise and id rather not rush things and risk sanding too far and cut through or buffing through the clearcoat so this is how its gonna be, for now... gonna go to the local autobody supply store and get some chrome trim for the front and rear bumpers. some double side tape for the stock chrome trims for the sides, and that should be it.. im not really satisfied with it because well, im sitting too high. best believe im sitting on tanabe springs and stock struts.... anyone wanna sponsor me air runners, or a UAS kit?

NICE! I think the RCR tails and chrome trim will really set off that red paint. Even with the cell phone pictures the paint looks really nice and glossy.

man the chrome just set that thing off. It really pops the style that your kit deserves. It looks so killer man, now if you could just lower it a little bit... it would be perfect imo:dance:

I thought that she was on air as well.  I would be worried about damaging the kit being on only springs.  She looks great "as is"......but also can't wait to see her with air.........I am sure that it would take her up yet another level.

Saw the ride last night sitting pretty.......wanted to come bye to introduce myself and look at the ride more but was running late to a B-day party at Ice Palace.  Regardless of the bad lighting in front of the shop........your ride looked crazy sweet.

Yeah I don't really come out to the area too often.....in fact it has been years since going to Ice Palace.  Don't recall the parking being quite so bad.  But was happy to see that they did away with the "rediculous" speed bumps in the parking lot.  But to be on the safe side I was rolling 4X4 when I was rolling past you guys.  Figure give the Oil Pan Guard a break for a change.
