VIP 2nd Gen 2008 XB soon to be VIP Style!

Sold my award winning old XB " Black Widow" to get the 2nd Gen XB.. First one in Hawaii! :thumbsup: 

This time Im going VIP Style with my XB. 

This isnt easy to do becuase of the New XB not being sold in Japan and it a totaly new platform. Parts are coming out slowly.. I just wish the JDM market would design a body kit for the 2nd gen xb but ill just have to see want wait.. 

My goals are to use as much Japan Product if avaible as possible.. Hopefull i can exucute this build in the proper way and style. 

SO far I had to part with using the Five Axis Lip kit that made in the US in which is an awsome kit to start with and the only kit that avaible right now. 

I also im designing a hood spoiler, grill and Mid wing.. 

My rims are on its way from Japan and should be here very soon.

Unfortunatly, no. It's an entirely different body style. The new xB's are designed for the US market only.

I was going to go deep dish fat lip like i noarmaly do.. but trying something diff this time with a Dish Type wheel.. im crossing my fingers that it looks good.. 

Kits all painted and color sanded and buffed out.. just waiting on the drop kit and rim before any thing goes on. 

Debating on Bags or not.. I checked out a universal air kit for the 1st gen xb that brand new for sale in Hawaii. I would prefer Air runner.. I just need to find out how similar the TC strut is to the new XB. IF it is than air runer can work becuase i know that the first TC with air runner is here in HAwaii. But the price on the Universal air is a deal 17,000 and looking at it I can make it work with the 2 gen XB.. 

What would you guys do.. Wait for Airrunner and hope they make a kit or just go universal air?

What up Elory! push Air runner to make a kit for the 08 XB.. they already have the rear made.. the older XB will fit the new XB.. 

the front from looking at a TC and the New XB look very much alike.. and i know theres a kit for the TC already made becuase the first Air runner TC is in Hawaii.

IF not im heading toward building a kit like how you guys did with Mike Ma's XB.

yah it looks that way but from actually trying it the front are different and the rear is nice... but as far as spring go dont do it... the ride is very very crappy due the the spring rates being off... but with air im pretty sure you can get the front of a tc  strut in there...... you can probably get away with the universal air setup because its just a bag that reps the spring... and the rear you might have to do a little fabbing but for you shouldnt be a problem... but i am definetely looking forward to seeing how this comes out... oh yah from what i heard from a reliable source a damd kit should be out shortly... so that will be sick looking

I was really lucky to get the 5 axis kit.. no one has it in Hawaii yet and wondering how the hell i got it here.. im just waiting on all mt stuffs to come before i do anything

Are you talking about the toyota bB??? there is a big diff with the toyota bB and Scion XB now. its not like the first Gen in which the XB was the toyota BB rebadged

And should have waited fort he xD if you wanted to build a car using as much JDM parts as possible. xD is built by Daihatsu and is the new Toyota Ist in Japan. I'm banking on that being my next car if I can swing it. Then I can continue getting oddball parts from Japan for it that no one can get here. The 5Axis lip kit is gonna throw off the VIP look for the car. you'll be Lux for sure. I'm sure it will look good anyway.

Hope fully i have my rims on by this weekend.. with the temp drop TRD springs also. IF the old xb Universal air kit fits ill have it bagged in a few weeks..

hmmm I wonder what stuffs from Japan?? 

All I Know is that my damm rims been sitting in customs for 3 days so far.. i dont know whats the hold up? 

And for those that are interested with a new XB .. I just tried this, the TC front strut doesnt bolt up.. all the mounting for the brake hoses are the same  but where the 2 bolt for the spindle are the TC one is more closer together.. 

So the TC strut from Air runner wont work.. Universal air is looking more and morelike it will work. i just have to see if the bag fits over the strut now.

well its been slow.. my wheels are here at the post office in customs.. its been there sence monday. This is the first time its been held there so long.. 

today i get a letter in the mail asking for an invoice and what is it going to be for " household or for resale" very first time they ever ask me stuffs like this. 

Now i have to wait for the invoice in which i though is on the box. 

dont really know whats going on..

so far i have seen no kit from japan at all for the xb, they have them for the new bb but its on the same platform as the old bb, and its not as big as the US version

Now thats going over board! LOL how i wish. I have a custom grill in the works already.. there no parts out there so just have to use my fabricating fiberglass skills and make one fron scratch. 
 
its a long road for me and the Black Widow.. I was going to to scrap that name and re name it black Mafia but i might just keep the name Widow and takeout the black.. every time i cruise now i feel like a looner that has lost something like a part of me died when i sold my first gen XB.. Although this XB isnt going to be as wild as my last XB it will have the clean classy gangster look to it. 
 
So far i have gone over what i expected to do... My last purcase was Bags..anouther thing that ill have to make work but just some simple tweaks and welding it will work fine.  lol where does it end. but thats the only way i could get the stance on looking for ands till be able to drive it everyday.

really need a kit from Garson if that will ever come true?? and a diff spoiler. Interiour and ICE has to be done yet, air is sitting in my room. so far the car isnt anything special just a car with rims, drop and lip kit. Not my idea of a show car.

I think this may be said for most of the more subtle modded cars. For a month or so build of a brand new car without that much support I think its very impressive. I would say if you are going to compare, compare to other Gen2 xBs out there now. I know for some peeps a gen1 xB D.A.D. kit may not look as "full" as a 8 piece spirits kit, but the subtle look might be preferred for a lot of peeps. Im with you though, wonder how it will look in just 3 more months...

Yup a lot may be missing, but other xB gen2 might be missing a lot more...

Hmm, yeah, that looks good. The wheels are like an outrageous stock kind of deal with the flat face 'n all....it's neat. =)

what about building from scratch? box out the stock bumpers like the chop a couple pages back.

I know it's not there yet, but I give you mad props for your attempt and what you've done so far.

thakns guys! still comming along very slowly. Just finshed my rack for my pumps and air tank.. just have to run the lines and mount the vavles in the spare tire well. The tank and compressor is going under the car becuase i need my trunk space for the Baby stroller and to carry parts and supplies. 
 
Kit that im using is a temp kit. Its the Universal air kit for the 1st gen XB it will work with some minor adjustments. When i get the air runer kit ill just swap out the suspension part only and leave the rest in. ask me why.. i just rather have airrunner. there is nothing worng with universal air, air runner was always my first choice and i like the chalange of making things work.

there will be no need to drill any new hole with my new mount. it uses exisiting holes. the old mount you had to either weld or drill new hole in the frame to mount the upper bracket.

got to test fit the rear bags today. I had to make one final adj and had to fabricate a Shim in which I can remove for shows so it lays lower.

the bottom mount uses a nut. this was what came with the Universal air kit. Notice how the lower perch is a more solid design than the old XB.

please tell me that airline is not gonna run next to the exhaust pipe. And yeah I would figure ALL suspension points would be a bit more heavy duty seeing as the new car is bigger. And are those TRD springs on your car payment? Man! I just wanna see this thing layed out.

yup that oneof the issues i have to deal with the air line being on top on the passenger side the Exh is really close to the bags. Ill prob have to run the line to the rear of the car and use more line. or i can flip the bags upside down and run the line on the bottom. 
 
The TRD spings are paid for.. there no way the dealership in hawaii sells it. the car was justt he bare base when i bought it. plus they over charge for those parts.. 
 
Slowly getting there.. just have to powder coat all the fabricated parts and build the front struts.. than the install can begin..

wow marshal the rear design of the 2nd gen xB is much better than the first gen..u shouldve let the rear down while you had it in there to see how much it would've dumped hehe

Update on project. 
 
Got the metal parts back from Powder coating today.. some might think its a waste but its atttention to fine detail is what wins shows.. Plus i cant stand bare metal when it rust. Spray paint doesnt cut it for me.. 
 
Made the Mock up for my Koa Tables. just have to find that right  Koa peice of wood.

sorry guys been bussy . finally got the chance so some what work on the car.. installed the valves .. Keeping the spare tire, this is under the false floor .. just had to make mount and cut the foam... it sits flush and hidden, prob going add some pixiglass and LED to show it..  
 
Within the next 2 weeks the car is going to my good freind at [B]Freds Auto Top Shop[/B] In Honolulu HI to get the Interiour all done up in REAL Leather Not no fake nor cheap leather! I had to order 7 cows to do this and those cows are not cheap.. So this will not be pre fabricated seat covers but all custom made.. Hopefully the judges knows fatory leather from Custom work in which many VIP cars lack in.

Here is how i look at it.. I would love to build a true VIP platforum but its just hard to rip out whats already in the interiour the factory leather.. I would rather start with some thing freash that basicly no one has done up yet like the Scion XB 2nd gen and the price is right also for the car and than dump to much mooney into customizing it.. very hard build becuase there not that much part avalible yet.. in which i will have to end up fabricating my own parts such as Grill and wings.. Hoepfully ill finish them soon and comeout with my own eight08 customs product line for the 2nd gen XB.

Ok did more work to the air bags install.. sound kind fo crazy starting at 11pm at night last night working on my car but thats the only time i had the chance to do it or never ever do it.. LOL

Than today i had some time in the evening to run someof the wires and some hoses.. I also swapped out the push on type fitting with compresson type. working in the industry those push on type aways fails sooner or later .. the compresson type are the way to go. Also make sure you have a hose cutter it helps make nice cuts on the hoses and eleminates bad cuts and air leaks.

thats with out the spacer.. Ill prob shave down the mounts about 1 inch more so that the rim will tuck.. or i think the bump stops in the shocks are stoping the car from going lower.. 
 
Now just have to Fabricate the front struts now.. hoefully ill have that done by sunday..

ok guys i mocked up the front strut.. being the first one to bag an gen 2 xb.. it like going in blind not knowing whats going to be have to be done and what exactly to do and where to mount preches up and what not.. 
 
IT was pretty stright forward with the install with UAS kit.. Cut the stock spring preach off and fabricated the mounts. One thing is wasnt sure of was where to weld the lower mount to the strut.. 
 
well i put it on the car and look like i have to tweak it out more toget it to sit slammed.. what happend was the car sits 1 inch higher that what the car used to sit with drpo springs.. LOL I just wish Air runner had there kit for the gen 2 out already.. Lucky i only tack welded on the mounts.. 
 
 
 ALso I guess one problem i k noticed about the UAS front strut bags.. on the inside there is a metal sleave. in which limits the travel on how low you can go.. does any one know if that sleave can be taken out and trimmed down so the car will drop lower.. does other bags for struts have this metal sleave in the bags?

had to modifiy the crap out of the front to get it to go lower.. but Ill have to warranty the right front bag in which has a leak in it where UAS crimps it.. 
 
I can go lower if i can find pillowball mounts.. it will prob bring it down another inch. 
 
the rear Ill just make some minor Adj to get it to go a little lower..

thanks man.. there was alot done to the seats.. youll have to look at a stock one and compare.. most people wouldnt even notice it and even judges would over look it unless i showed them what we did..

car just went to Progresive Auto sounds to get the stereo put in.. Stay tuned! I woldhave done it on my own like my last car but i have a dead line to meet in which i myself can meet it. 
 
Also some eng mods are comming.. and a few more of the Garson goodies came in.. 
 
Just a note never order pedal covers for a 5spd they dont make them.. LOL I found out the hard way..

This Xb is nice....lots of work done and all quality in mind.

AH i let that Lexus slip by..Just saw one and the same handles chrome.. Now we all know you can get them right in the USA.. 
 
I would figure toyota would have kept all the smae part numbers for all those handles. Would have saved me the trouble of getting them out of japan.. 
 
I have yet to install them.. i forgot the japan cars are right hand drive.. So guess what my key hole might end up on the passenger side.. Like i ever use the key hole.. so if it does end up that way.. guys will know its OEM from Japan.. or i can buy the passenger side for the es330 than ill have no key holes..

nothing wild.. just super clean. with use of pexi and Lights and aluminum and Koa wood. and keeping the trunk space functional.. going for sound quality.. using all Zapco. 
 
also using real Koa wood to accent the speakers on the door.. and the trunk.. It should in a way be pretty wild in a suttle way..

Just updated the mods.. finially got off my but to install some stuffs today and some stuffs went on last week for the Toyota Dealership Convention and 50th toyota Anniversary. Big thanks to TRD for the HOOK UP! 
 
THe stereo is installed but the final touches are still being fabricated out of REAL KOA wood to give the car an Orignal Innovative Style in which no one has ever done yet .. I will post pics of the Stereo after its all done.. What went in was all Zapco System and its sounds super clean and slams!

working hand in Hand with Progresive auto sounds.. Koa is very fragile and making the speaker pods/ grills for the door panels takes time.. its just hard to use a router becuse of the grain. I have one made out already for the test peice but the shape of the door panel make it harder to mount it now.. lots of hand sanding to get it to fit and the right shape. 
 
Koa is big bucks also.. but im always been working with cars and I always have to be original. Doing this VIP style Theme it more than slapiing on parts.. i like to hand craft alot .. I always beleived that if you can make a one off why buy somehting that everyone else will have.. but if there is no other choice. than bolt on aftermarket is second choice.. 
 
Workng on some custom eyelids and have to finish up the grill. but again im might jus scrap everything if i can get my hands on some OEM Corolla Rumion parts like the whole front and rear bumpers.. but i think thats all a dream right now..

Booth of us first time working with wood other than MDF.. Working with real Koa wood takes time and skill. This as be a trail and error project in creating speaker grill cover for the the door panels.. He is what i have so far. I Still have to sand the clear and add more coats.. and figure how to mount it to the door..

Wood working Exotic wood isnt easy.. learning alot on how Koa wood reacts to a router. Koa hsant been very nice to me the past week .. Arghhhh!!!!
 
So i put the Wood project away for the day and added some of my Corolla Rumion Mods.. Was going to put on the Rumion wing but its the wornge color so now i have to paint it..

Clean yo...did you remove the Scion emblem from the front grill or are you swapping the front end out? I know you were working on a replacement grill but didn't know how that was going with all the other things you got going with the project...

that grill has been stting for while i have to get my but on it again.. I have the front Corolla Rumion Emblem.. its a BIG C ..... I have to mod the factory grill to fit it..

OK guys had some tiem today to add yet anouther rumion mod.. 
the front Grill Corolla emblem.. Its a Huge C if you look at it good.. 
There was some cutting and grinding and to makeit fit the OEM XB grill.. Morelike hacking up the center part of the grill to make it fit like factory..

very true dude!!! Im working on it.. im holding off untill Im crossingmy fingers Garson makes a kit for it.. I hate to order a bumper than end up taking it off to replace it with a body kit.. shipping those items is going to put a big hold inmy pocket.. LOL never expected to take this project this far.. this is like an addiction for me now..

hey Marshall, where did you get the chrome handles? are the plastic or metal? do they install with M3 tape? Thinking of doing my VIP with gold. So i also need to know how they cost.

been a while sence my last mod..
 
Had this Strup header made for me for the photo shoot before the header was out for retail but i never got around to putting on until today.. due to i came after the photo shoot. 
 
Not much of a mod...but i had to put it in for the upcomming shows in Hawaii. 
 
Its was nice and shinny stainless but decided to wrap it with header wrap to cut down heat in the Eng bay.. 
 
I also added the weapon r CEL eliminator so that the Eng light doesnt come on..

Wow!! I think its Great and know that the Gen2 needs this.... I don't own a Gen2 but almost got one before I got the Ody... I like this, but think I would like it better if the blades/fins went outward from top to bottom...    ////////l\\\\\\\\   ..........

only billet or polished? the billet look is funky. needs chrome/black insets

thanks guys.. but now we know why stuffs like this cost so much.. so much time involved in the CAD design. basicly just sitting there watching this thing get cut and going back and forth to the comp doing tweaks to the CAD. this took over a week to cut and we barely finshed it up for the show and got it on the last day of the show. 
 
the grill sint fisnhed yet and the polishing as far from done and we are going to black outthe back sideof the fins. we are doning one more tweak and adj before it goes into production.. 
 
I was thinking about chromeing it but than though long and hard that polishing the billet would be the best to show the quality and time that went into this billet peice and also the billet i think it matches the wheels.
 
but as forjworks always does, they can custumize it to your wanting

Although I am a Mac Blick fan and that's the kit I'm gettin for my RL1...I'm not really feeling that kit..:shrug:I'd say hold off and keep your options open,something is bound to give u that "wow" factor.

Wow that came out awesome looks like a factory piece nicely done...as far as the conversion I'm sure you were just talking about the front end you might find someone in Japan to swap bsp for bsp and just split the shipping...the grill came out clean but I want to see it after the alterations not feeling the gaps on the ends glad to see progression is still in effect...

very clean bonnet spoiler.. think the proportions are nice... not tall and cumbersome looking like many out there...

Also there will be end pieces for the 3 piece version. 
 
I wanted it to be more as an accent peice and not to agrresive like how the Fab. ones are. 
 
IT will not be mad of Fiberglass also.. but some kind of PVC matrial that will be milled on the Five Axis mill so it will not be hollow.

One more product we came out with.. its a Tail Light cover.. this one on my car is the Blacked out version.. WE still need to do some minor tweaks to it.. Ill post pics of the Candy red ones after i get them.. I still dont know if im going to run these at all.

Vacume formed it.. process is, we did a 3d scan of  the tail lights and did a CAD design on it. than cut a mold on the 5 axis than vacume formed it. and painted it either candy red or Transparent Black.

I couldnt help it and there was a set of BBS RC090 wheel needing some TLC if not it was going to the trash can..LOL 

It was a nice project and to not just buy a wheel and slap it on and Actaully got to build and refurbish an wheel that was wasted , Curbed, and bent..

Thanks i like the old wheels better. but needed a change up after 4 years... The garsons are having a well needed rest and are going to get some TLC and the pot hole damage is going to get repaired.

varad suspension lighting for puddle lights, and used it in the engine bay and inside the car.. i think there is like 6 sets that i used. the wiring and controler are just crazy..

but the draw back was those things draw power when the cas is sitting off and kills the batt

Finally getting some new mods for WEKFEST Hawaii..

My FORJWORKS/ UAS air suspension had done me well for the past 4 years with no issues. FIRST XB2 on bags! 

Going to be upgrading the Air Suspension and managment with AIRREX Suspension Stage 3 managment wire less managment system. 

I'll be posting pics of the install and why i choose to upgrade..

just installed the all in one set up in my XB.. This must be the easyiest managment to install, did it in less than an hour with all the suspension already in. This is for a novice its that easy.. 

All you do is run power wire hoses and your done.. 

Over all performance of the kit... Ill give it a 8 .. works way better the other guys ones.. you know whos im talking about.. 

Pre set works well but still not as good at hight sensors but it does get you to the preset hight.

manual works fine. 

Wireless is awsome! Flip the switch and pressure reading and controls all wireless.
