What song did you first hear that made you love Hip Hop? mines was Craig Mack's "Flava in ya ear" back when i was 9 years old. so,whats yours?
Wow... I don't know where to begin. The first tapes I had were RUN-D.M.C. - Raising Hell and Beastie Boys - License to Ill around 1986. Well, I remember the first records I ever purchased were Afro-Rican - Give it all you got 12" single and Two Live Crew - Move Somethin' back in 87-88. I was like 10-11 years old... LOL! Still dig hip-hop being a skratch dj. I just find it funny how some folks think hip-hop is a fashion show without knowing the 4 elements...

i remember i had a tape from a friend with some hip hop on it back in 95 or 96. i didn't realize who was on it back then, but i knew it was on point. now i know that it had some Mic Geronimo, Grand Pubah, Sunz Of Man, Smif N Wesson and Black moon. Mid-90's hip hop is still my favorite time for hip hop. especially the east coast stuff.
Damn... everything I used to listen to was rap.. Didn't really, really get into hip hop until my older brother really started rapping. Was the very first album from the black eyed peas.... song was FALLIN UP... greatest album from the black eyed peas imo... and the rawkus records lyricist lounge.... then I was hooked. My older brother, being into underground hip hop, I was introduced to bands like the roots. Great band, black thought is the sh!t... common sense, black star with mos def and tabil kwali, soundbombin, bahamadia, saul williams, wordsworth, matrix and a-butta.... all the old school cats... don't really care for the new school cuz they try to pass mainstream AS hip hop.... HIP HOP is HIP HOP... they callin rap or gangsta rap, hip hop... but what the hell do I know.....? WU-TANG, WU-TANG.....

Dam I feel old.... I don't recall the first song I heard but I was born and raised in Harlem. I just remember listening to it as far as I can remember (think "strafe - Set it off", Schoolly D "PSK" & "Gucci Time" ) Curtis Blow lived a couple of blocks from me. One of the first clubs that catered to hip hop was also a couple of blocks from me. I remember seeing Biz Markie, Dougie fresh etc. just hanging out around the way. I recall certain rappers (some still living some dead...) coming around the way to buy drugs. I use to roll with Zulu and the list goes on. Basically i grew up with it., it was a way of life. It's sad to see the state that it's in now. To be honest the best time for hip hop was the late 80's to mid 90's when they were actually thought put into the words that they were spittin. Think Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Nice n' Smooth... all the way to Tribe called Quest, Black Moon, Tupac and Biggie Somewhere towards the late 90's it kind of lost it's essence.
