I need your expierenced guestimations and estimations on wheel/tire size

allrighty guys, the pictures below is a 19x9 with a 40 offset (rear wheels)

Forum image

Forum image

the tirs are probably 235-35-19 or 225-35-19 in size.

Now given these facts, do you guys think I can push the limitations a bit more with a 19 x 9.5 via 38 offset ? We are looking at an additional NET gain of about 8 mm, aprox about 1/4 inch more protrusion in comparsion the pics above.

what u think ?

.5 inch is about 13 mm difference.

So half of that is like 6.5 mm + 2mm you get from the lower offset. You will get your 8mm

is that right? crap im confused

Re: I need your expierenced guestimations and estimations on wheel/tire size

Here is how I calculate the difference between two wheels. This does not include the flange so its only useful if you are comparing how much more a wheel will stick out or be sunk.

19x9 + 40 = 9x25.4 = 228.6 228.6/2 = 1143 114.3 - 40 = 74.3 (distance from mounting surface to edge of wheel not including flange)

19x9.5 +38 = 9.5x25.4 = 241.3 241.3/2 = 120.65 120.65- 38 = 82.65

82.65 - 74.3 = 8.35 mm (New wheel will stick out 8.35 mm more than the 19x9 +40) You will need more camber than the car pictured IMO.

I'm hoping I can get away with just running narrow tires to clear the fenders, my car already has a camber kit and I'd like to keep it within specs.

AME is correct on the quick measure...but it also depends on PAD..as long as the PAD is the same that works.

The pad is the mounting surface also called the "disk". It comes in varrying thicknesses usually for the purpose of caliper clearance.

Re: I need your expierenced guestimations and estimations on wheel/tire size

I just tested fitted a 17 x 8 via 33 offset wheel with a 235-50-17 tire and it's questionable.

a 19x9.5 via 38 offset is goiing to stick out another 12mm (about 1/2 inch)

I believe a 235-35-19 tire should clear BUT will the wheel itself look like it will be sticking out too much ?

Re: I need your expierenced guestimations and estimations on wheel/tire size

8 inch is 203.2mm
9.5 inch is 241.3mm

difference in those is 38.1mm and then youre going up +5 in the offset so then it becomes 33.1mm

so in other words the 19x9.5 +38 going to stick out another 1.3 inches as compared to the 17x8 with a 33 offset

Re: I need your expierenced guestimations and estimations on wheel/tire size

Wow you guys are doing quite incorrect, and unnecessarily complicated math to determine relative fitment. You take half the difference in width, and then add the difference in offset. And that's pretty much it... no need to take into account the whole width of the wheel, and definitely NO need to worry about the mounting pad, as that does not alter the offset, and thus, actual fitment of the wheel, and the relative position of the inner and outer lips. Difference between 9", +40mm to 9.5", +38mm wheel: half of .5" difference = .25" or approximately 6mm. So the wheel itself, if the same offset, would stick out 6mm more. Then account for the offset: the new wheel is 2mm lower offset, and will stick out an additional 2mm... 2+6 = 8mm more out. So math from first post was correct. All you're looking for is relative fitment between one wheel and another. Will it all fit? Well, if you look at that pic posted, the fender lips aren't even rolled flat yet. So if you were to keep the same amount of camber, and rolled the fenders flat, you could potentially go out at least another 10-12mm from what you see there...

Re: I need your expierenced guestimations and estimations on wheel/tire size

one ton,

thanks for your help.

that's exactly how I got my 12mm (1/2 inch) calculation (in comparison to the 17" x 8 via 33 offset) and 8mm gain in comparison to the white RL with the autocoutures.

what do you mean by "fender rolled flat" ? the fenders are already shaved inside, is that what u mean ?

the fenders on the white rl that you initally posted don't appear to be shaved, and they are definitely not rolled.

shaving, rolling, and pulling fenders are three different things:

Re: I need your expierenced guestimations and estimations on wheel/tire size

yeah your right, it doesn't look to be shaved; either that or it has a light shaving. My inner fenders are very closely shaved so my next option would be to pull if I have to. I'm hoping I won't have to.

ok I will definitely keep that in mind.

from my further investigations, Project RL-Xtreme will be a GO.

The main thing I dis-like about wheels sticking out too much is seeing the tire tread, in my case I will see 5 mm less tread and .75" of more wheel.

That's actually not very agressive on a Y33, but on an RL it would be. It would look pretty sick I'd think.
