what style wheels are in?

Hey guys, just looking for opinions on styles of wheels as im shopping this week :) 

Ive seen in some of the japan pics here, cars without any dish but have real low offset. LIke this......

IS this the new trend in japan, cause im a big fan, I just cant decide on doing something like this with my UCF11 or just getting some nice deep dish wheels. What does everyone think? Would this style suit my celsior?

The thing that's "in" is what ever you like.  Don't be a trend *****..do what you like.  You'll be happier in the end.  Personally I love dish..always have, always will.  It's all personal preference.

agreed... if something you like isn't "in", do it right and make it "in".

personally i lean towards monoblock/small stepped lips, but it has a lot to do with my preferences body wise (i.e. stock body, sensible camber vs. extreme camber, pulled/flared/widebody).

figure out [I]your[/I] overall style/goals and pick something that will work well with that.

yea dont feel like you have to buy a set of wheels to be part of the crowd, buy what you think looks good on your car.

Agreed! Don't go buy what you see in the mags all the time!
It's mostly personale prefrence but as far as the "VIPstyle" is concerned, dish wheels are the safe choice but because of them being so common, catz are choosing to take different directions!
 
Jus remember, quality means alot and you get what you pay for!

well said, i like both dish wheels and mesh, but more dish though lol... but thats me and my 2 pennies, 

love the work ls406 locksmice dukes, and a few other wheels.

Whatever you like is whats hot do you...

As others have already said, just do what you like instead of trying to fit in.  It's bad enough I see people wear Affliction and Ed Hardy/Christian Audigier shirts everywhere I fricking go.

i really like the concave look.  i want a set of m6 wheels and adapters that i can rock at different events

You can have a non mono block wheel w/ that concave face I/E Leon Hardritt wheels......

By the time you jump on some of the JDM VIP trends, they are not in any more.  They do things to be the first to do them then they move on.  :shrug:

you can also have a monoblock w/ lip.

monoblock is just a fancy word for 1 piece.

and to make it even more interesting; brabus monoblocks are available in multi piece. never could figure that one out...

Probably not, I don't think B-Spark is that widespread (?) so perhaps they've been in contact and shared ideas

Incidentally, B-Spark is manufactured by TRA Kyoto, if I read their site correctly.

They are both rocking bimmer wheels, M5 and M6.  Both of those front bumpers originated from the same kit but were modified.  If these guys are not in the same crew then there would be a karate battle in a vip parking lot somewhere in Japan over who had what first.

i guess concave monoblock wheels are in? the m6's look real good on that GS... i guess they did a conversion as well? 5x120?

i guess like every1 else said do wat u like, but i like to tell people for all cars, as if wat i said had mad weight =), TRY to sticc within given eras. a set of bloccs with concavature rivaled only by a crater might not look as good as say a tasteful wheel with a lot of surface area and a respectable steplip on UR ride.
but that's just my $.02

Thats very true.  Have a game plan and stick with it.  Some of these newer twisted spoke type wheels would not go very well with the older simple boxy body kits.

Glad to see i started a good little discussion. I have though about what  style i want and i decided i have to keep thinking ahah. 

The guys at the wheel shops in brissy keep talking up their deep dish wheels, problem is they all think massive dish and massive ofset is a 8.5 inch wheel with +40 offset and 10mm of dish. Then when i tell them i want +20 offset on a 10 inch wheel they give me the worst looks. 

Has anyone got pics of concave wheels on a ls400? 

Ill keep everyone posted on what i decide and ill get some pics up asap!

prolly ran wheel adapters, helped with the fitment as well most likely.

Black wheels with colored accents and colored lip stripe are pretty popular.

japan as well. i tried to get in at the beginning of the black lip trend, but missed it completely.  color matched/accent colors are huge at the shows, striping is here and there, and even the full black that some said would never work has a strong presence.

I mentioned mostly because MHT/DUB 3pc has picked it up in a big way this year.

mht is the completely wrong type of company to associate with vip trends, but none the less, it is popular right now.

It's all about fitment/stance.

I always liked "shrift" style dish wheels, hence why I got mine.

Probably from the same Car Club...They like Ugly Bodykits and BMW rims....

I say Full Face rims with at least 2-3" lips in the front and 3"+ in the rears...

I think the new trend is concave spokes with no lip (only achievable when you have some seriously crazy offset).

Also, painted sides on the spokes and painted barrels (usually matte black with chrome spokes) are in.

I'm not sure what is "in" or not but out of personal preference I like the classic deep dish lip with either wide face (esp. on true vip cars) or 5 spoke design. Obviously fitment is a given but from there on you should be encouraged to get creative. I like to be careful when it comes to following trends though. As widebody q said, many people will try to be the first to do something just to be the first to do it. That doesn't necessarily mean that we should all follow in their footsteps. At the end of the day it comes down to what YOU think looks good. But you can't go wrong with some deep dish! : ]

Well I like both types of wheels, but currently am rocking a set of 19" sherlock society wheels with very mild offsets. I like em cuz they're different. :) So, whadduya guys think?

dude i wouldnt go with anything australian haha the wheels they think have dish are all fake dish or some 'dish model' where they manage to get a 9-9.5" wheel with +30 offset and 2-3" of boring straight dish on it and think its awesome.
 
You're unlucky though, wheels are MUCH more expensive now with the bad exchange rate. i got 3pce custom neg offset gold Work VS-XX early last year for like 2.5k, and then 19" Work SC2 Step Lip custom offsets for $2.7k mid last yr

hahah i wanted someone else to agree with me on the pathetic dish wheels we have here in aus. 

i know, i should have made up my mind and got some wheels last year. im looking at $3000 for second hand work wheels and im not liking it.

I can get them for just under $2000, they are 18 x 9 +22 and 18 x 10 +29. Thats about an 80mm dish on the back ~
i worked out id get a flush fitment if i caculated right.

yeah they're a nice set of wheels. you'll have to be sitting pretty low on 18s to fill the guards right but should be good.

how does everyone go with fitting wheels on a ls400, with like caliper clearences and that. i jsut dont want to get them and they dont fit. should i find out what car they came off and stuff to see if they would be compatible on the ls?.

Find out what the bolt pattern is, offset, width of wheels, and disc.  Then search here on VSC or on Club Lexus to get a general idea.

You can get those on an LS no problem. If they're the right bolt pattern at least.

I like them! But I think its funny cause there were some people hating on club lexus

i dont know what disc they are. should it be on the sticker on the wheel? 

i think they are an older model wheel so there isnt much info out there :(
