'95 CE1 Luxury Tuning

Hi guys, I just posted my intro today with the much of the same info but I want to have a build thread here as well.  My platform is a 1995 Honda Accord LX Station Wagon, not a VIP platform but I draw inspiration from the VIP theme and plan to build this car with the luxury style in mind.  There are endless amounts of goodies to buy due to the fact that this is a popular car to modify in Japan.

It looks about the same right now.  Most of the past few months have been dedicated to repairs and maintenance.  I just recently began buying accessories.  First on the list is F2 Dampers, which are due to arrive tomorrow.  They look like this:

I also purchased some wheels last week.  Work Ryvers; 17x8 and 17x9 all et35.  They need a little work to look new again and aren't due to arrive for about a month and a half.  Here are a couple pics from the YJA auction they were listed on:

So that's it so far.  I will try to keep this thread up to date with the progression of my car. Comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome!

I have a special place in my heart for wagons.
 
Nice choice on the wheels.  The coilovers leave a little to be desired (personal opinion!), but for a good stance, they should do the trick.

Thanks guys, glad to be here.  The coils do leave al ittle to be desired, but so does the 5th gen. Accord's suspension.  To do bags proper requires a ton of work.  I can do cylinders pretty easily, but they aren't the best ride and I don't care for replacing the lower front forks with flimsy U-brackets.  Dampers will have to do the trick for now - they're fully threaded like D2's (hence the name - F2) so they should be able to go dirty low, plus I got these for $590 shipped!
The wheels cost even less than that, the total invoice after shipping and tire removal is about $475.
I'm feeling pretty good about this build and I'm taking some cues from the VIP carscene so it should turn out to most of your liking.
BTW, the F2 dampers are due to arrive this afternoon.

Thank you for the welcome.  I really have the previous owner and original dealer to thank for such a clean car.  They took excellent care of it over the years, always serviced at the original selling dealer it was bought from in '96 and they kept a log of all maintenance done in the owners manual.  They even traded it in at the same dealership, which is where I bought it from.

welcome aboard. don't feel like an outsider, your car is a popular platform in the wagonist segment of vip i believe.

Yessir, It's my DD and my project so you know it has to be reliable.  I had to replace the brakes right off the bat.   The second day I had it I lost 2 lines and a master cylinder at 45mph!  I guess it sat for a while in outside and the brake lines under the car just rusted out.  
I firmly believe in making a car mechanically sound before pumping money into mods.
 
Yes it is a popular platform, that's why I'm so pumped on it.  There are just so many upgrades available!

Awesome car.... I loved my 5th gen.. though not VIP it was still super clean... to bad it was totalled about a week after I finished it :signdammit:

you're joking right? if this isn't the ugliest bumper i've ever seen it's close to it.

i like the wald on the clean tip (my preference).

Why yes it is wrong. Saab Wheels are so super ugly=) And I like the Inspection kit the best! I did a full mugen lip kit on my acorn. Which was dope at the time.

I do like the Inspection kit, but something that legit will require air sus.  I'm going to try doing this build without air... I think.  I have a tendency to change my mind about things like that.  But for now, I'm looking at milder lip kits instead of full bumper replacements.  I do like door caps a lot though, so my build could change direction.  It's not to that point yet though, I just started on the stance.

My first impression of these F2's (which I have never had the pleasure of owning before) is overall positive.  They look and feel like quality products, at least as good as KSports and Tein's.  I can't vouch for how well they will hold up on the car, or how well they will perform yet.  I will find out in the spring.  The only thing I wish they had is adjustable dampening.  I kind of feel like that should be a standard feature on a fully threaded coilover.  But, for $590 shipped, I guess I got what I paid for and I can't complain too much.  
No updates from Joji on my wheels yet, but it's only been about 5 days since I won the auction.  I should be hearing something in the next couple days, and I'm also going to try to have some better pictures emailed to me.  I'll be sure to post up what I can get.

sorry to say it but you will regret gettin coilovers.. I sure did. I first got some springs then I got some Tanabe coilovers then I made the right choice and got an Air Ride technology kit.. It rides better then factory and thats with 225/30/20 tires..  No bullshit..

I can assure you I won't regret it.  I've never had air on any vehicle, always coilovers.  I have been involved in installing air sus before and have rode around in cars on air, I won't deny that it's really nice and I won't say I'll never have it in the future.  Coils are just a cheap and easy way for me and my budget to achieve an ultra-fresh stance.  They will work fine for now. :biggthumpup:

Just make sure that you dont compair bags with cans.. Cause cans may be faster but its like riding in a log wagon..

I hate to rain on your parade, but I should at least let you know the facts.  The F2's are not going to be of the same quality as Tein's.  They'll be slightly better than K-Sports or D2's, since they're the second generation from Function and Form, but they're still produced by a budget Chinese manufacturer (hence the cheap price).  I used to have gen. 1 F2's, and all four dampers blew out within 7 months of daily driving on relatively decent roads.  Don't be too surprised if yours do the same.


As for Joji, I've dealt with him for years.  He usually takes about 7 days to get the paperwork set up for auctions in Japan.

No worrie's, you're not raining on my parade - and thanks for the heads up.  I did check into F2, I read the reviews, and I talked with guys who have them on their 5th gen Accords.  I didn't want to buy used, although I did almost buy a set of used Vacanza's off UPgarage because they were $300.  So I bought these new for the included warranty, the low price, and because new parts are typically less likely to fail.  All I'm basing my first impression on is the over all appearance and workmanship of the product itself, I still have no first hand experience of how it will actually perform.  All that I do know is from a collective of reviews that other owners have written or given me.  And I actually feel KSports and D2's are nicer than Tein's, that's all personal opinion though.  I just like them better, go figure?
I'm not quite sure what you mean by the last bit.  I'm just saying that I want to get some pics of the wheels when he receives them.  That way I can share them with you's guys and see what kind of refinishing work I have ahead of me.

What do you mean by cans?  Are you talking air cylinders?  I actually had a set I picked up on CL for like $60, but then decided against them because of the rough ride.  I sold them on eBay for $150 Hahaha.

That's purely opinion, bud.  You can look at the shock dyno's, they are strewn about different forums.  The K-Sports, D2's, and F2's don't even come close to the dampening capabilities of even Tein Basics.

If you're looking for pictures, you're going to be waiting a lot longer than a few days.  Typical shipping times are around a month to two months after purchase.  Joji waits until his container is full over in Japan, before he ships them via ocean freight.  Joji, himself, lives in Cali.

Your wagon looks exactly like mine. Haha. Mine has a rack though.

I know dude, that's what I said.  Opinion.  I'm not tracking the car, I drive 16 miles total a day.  I think I'll be fine with the F2's.  I have seen some of them, but I don't care too much about shock dynos.  But it's like I said, I'm just trying to get my car low to the ground for stance purposes.  If I end up hating the F2's or they fail, like you say they more than likely will, then I'll upgrade to something else.
 
I got what you're saying on the wheels, that's a bummer.  I don't typically use wheelschoice, this is only like the second or third time.  My normal broker (JAA) wanted to charge a lot more for shipping.

Nice, I don't see a lot of this color.  Mostly that dark red or the champagne color.
