New Rims on the y34!!! Yay

Well the new rims are on.

They are 20" Lexion 401's Diamond Cut Finish. 20x8.5 +22 & 20x10.5 +27.

Required cutting the lip off the rear fenders. I drove it to work today and it looks like I will need to cut a little further down than I did. Under some slow hard turns it still rubs a bit. I was going to take it to the painter tomorrow to have him pain the sides and rear and touch up the inside of the fenders but I guess that will have to wait until next week so I can do the extra cutting on the weekend.

Th fronts are pretty close to flush. The rears are dead flush maybee 1mm of poke.
Here are the pictures of the new rims on though.

Its a set of Espiler Springs.

I plan to eventually get it on some air and add a kit. Unfortunately right now the money is all going to some business opportunities. If all works out they will provide me the ability to finish the car the way I want to.

These are the exact look for the rims I wanted in the first place so at least that is out of the way.

They look good, but I think some wheels just don't look as good as others on Y34's, but that may change after you lay it out. Right now it's just too high for me to make a determination. You may end up needing some spacers to get the look you want after the air...

Right now I am at factory camber. I may camber it in when I take it to be aligned.

I know it needs a better drop, but with coils being $2300 and air at about $2500 or $3000 its about out of reach for me right now.

why would you camber it in when you are flush and ridin high? to make it look worse? to wear tires unevenly? so you can say "i'm running x* of camber"?

No I would only do it if it afforded me more clearance if I needed it. By Cambering in the wheels they would tuck up under the fender more if I hit a really bad bump. I think once I am done trimming the areas I noticed I think I will be fine without it.

the wheels will camber under compression and clear anyway, you don't need it.

yeah i kinda figured that. It was just a consideration as an incase all else fails. I really like these rims and am willing to do whatever it takes to make sure they fit with no issues.

I am thinking that once I go air I may have to actually pull the fenders for clearance to get as low as I want.

I seem to remember there being some issues with the M as far as being able to slam it. I think the silver one on here with air mentioned it.

Thats great news. I knew it was just the fender thing. I may be taking that front off your hands if all goes well with my old rims selling.

I am guessing you had your fenders modified, what did you end up doing?

personally i would have dropped before wheels. as actloex mentioned the wheels will tuck more as you drop, so expect a tuck fit or spacers in the future. but what's done is done, so yeah... i say drop before kit.

don't get me wrong, the car is comin along great. there's just a certain order i think things should be done for best results. personally i think your widths/offsets are right on the mark, but i am big on the tuck these days. when you do slam the car, and assuming you prefer the flush look, you may or may not be happy with the fitment.

Not saying you are being too tough. I will be happy with the drop that Actolex has. Since I am only one mm wider in rear than him it should be the same.

Thanks for the link. I have seen this kit before. It just looks really good in that work picture. In some of the other angles not so much. I would either swap out the grill and lights or have the front modifed to fit my stuff.

I am taking a trip to Japan this year so I may be able to pick up the lights and grill while I'm there.

I may still be liking the Aimgain....

Ok so I finshed all of the trimming and the clearance is much better. Not perfect though. I did some really hard turns on flat ground and had no issues. If I do a hard circle like a g-test it touched once.

Under normal driving it doesn't rub. If i hit a really bad bump it will momentarily touch at the very top of the fender in the center.

I was hoping they would camber in under bumps and clear but it doesnt quite clear. I am currently running 275/35/20 so I may go 265 with a little more stretch when I need new tires.

My other option is to have the fenders pulled just a little bit.

What I go through for cars.
