Candy paint VIP cars!!!!!

Hey guys, i want to see some candy painted VIP cars OR VIP style cars. im pretty set on the color candy im gonna use but want to get some more ideas just in case there's something better. THANKS:biggthumpup:

I seen a few reds, ands green candy cars from Japan.  I havnt seen anything here on a vip car [I]yet[/I]

well i know what color im gonna go with as stated earlier b/c its different than all the other candies that you normally see. actually now that i think about it i might even custom mix a color to give me exactly what im picturing ..............:eekwiggle:

my car(UCF10) is Taupe and im gonna keep it close to the same color in candy but monotone. so there's a hint. and im gonna mix in another color and paint up a sample panel and see if its what im picturing in my mind (saw the color on a chopper tank) but will be a minute b/c i just finished school and am now looking for a job and a house.....:runcoold:

I hear about candies changing colors all the time but what causes that?  UV rays?

Yeah, pretty much. It fades, just like all paintjobs.

haha...i think the original color was candy rose red or something like that, i remember when we wet sanded and buffed that car the color almost came back but after a year or two it was back to pink

Oh.  What's the definition of candy paint?  I've always thought of candy (kandy) paint as 3 stage paints.

The stock LS is the color Noble Spinel Mica which is a 3 stage process paint.

^ Candy is highly reflective.  Its put in the clear.  Its not that easy to spray candy.  You can't overlap the paint, you have to be very accurate and smooth with the paint gun or it will look like crap.  Thats why people who spray Kandy the right way charge what ever they feel like.  Sometimes over $10G's

Hell yeah a true candy paintjob done right costs a GRIP!!!my cousin got his impala candied and he paid $12,000 for that shit...i told him he was a dumbass.

I've tried doing candy paintjobs in the past, and it's a real pain!  It's real difficult to get an even coat on all the panels. One section would be lighter than another since the mid coat is what determines the shade.  I gave up on candy paintjobs after a couple attempts.  Takes a lot of practice.

Yea, its time for me to pick a new color. Its gonna be painted soon. Then the LS after that.:biggthumpup:

yeah ive painted candy before. there's a certain technique you have to use to get all the panels even and not have any dark spots. heres my mailbox i did in Alsa Kandy orange with ghost flames

Candy is a tinter. It's added to clear base to make a transparent colour.

It's sprayed over a metallic, so the result is a metallic colour, but with much more dramatic depth.

Mica is a solid, it's basically the little sparkles you see.

I don't think I could shoot a candy paint, I would need many many cars under my belt before I feel comfortable attempting that. If you fuck up, you start all over.

I would be scared that someone would try to steal my mailbox if it looked that nice.  Then again, you would be able to spot it instantly because it would blind the whole neighborhood.  From there, you can just steal it back since it was yours to begin with :pat:

candy is basically a transparent color, the more coats you apply the darker it gets. you have to spray it over a light base like white or silver. if you spray it over a dark base you wont be able to see what color youre spraying and youre wasting candy..... the reason its called candy is b/c it resembles candy, the best example i can think of is tootsie pops

That's weird because according to the paint color book we use, the Noble Spinel Mica - Color code 3R7 (77933), it's a 3 stage process which uses the metallic base, and the red is the mid transparent coat, then the clear coat.

I think I started off with the wrong body to try to do candy though.  I used my motorcycle panels which has way too many curves.  I gave up after the first layer of red, and gave up.  So it ended up pink, and thew it up on ebay. haha.  People actually bought the parts.

oops,  you're right.  I confused myself with candy and pearl.  I think the base is the red, and mid is the mica flakes, then the clear.

I keep referring to "any" 3 process paint as candy.

The most typical result of candy jobs is striping....because people don't want to pay to have it done right.  So if you don't have the dough..don't give it a go.

Black candy I sprayed over my OE wood pieces.

Turned them from Walnut to more if a Cherry color.

Like the guys above said, candy is a tinted clear, it's translucent.

I've been spraying cars for about 5 yrs and I still dont want to attempt a candy I dont want to waste by messing up but I guess one of these days I might try it. That is a sick mailbox and clean ass door panels

The only reason I didn't get my old S14.5 candied was because there is NO way to do touch ups on dings and scratches without repainting an entire side of the car etc...

they look great, but they are for pampered cars.  I drive my cars too much.

Mmy brother just painted his lifted 2002 truck kandy red I wonder how long that will last

my friends hatch that is candy faded after 2 years cause he always parked it outside.

everyone says candy fades, but if and when i spend the money on candy my car will not be seeing enough sunlight for it to fade in a couple of years

^That is what I been saying. If I do go through with candy paint in the next couple of months I plan to have a daily so I dont leave it exposed to the sun while Im at work or school.  Some people are gonna say a car should be dd but Im not dropping 5k+ every couple of years to respray candy just to to have it sit out in the sun while im working.

I am sure you can get something that you put in the clear that protects against uv rays.  If not, get some SPF50 and lotion the car down

i do agree though i wouldnt candy paint a car that isnt garaged and well maintained in the first place.
